GAME having a sale, decent price for us considering recent Amazon US deals were approximately $5-10 more expensive.

Steam Link is designed to take advantage of the horsepower you already have in your home, streaming from your current gaming computer by mirroring its experience to your TV. Wired network is strongly recommended

What does this do is this for use with pc? Or xbox?

You plug it into a TV, and it connects to Steam on your gaming PC and uses the Steam In-house streaming to let you play games from your gaming pc on your TV.

    • stream games from PC onto your TV, via the steam link.

      ^beat me to it.

Basically allows you to play your Steam games on your big TV in the living room/bedroom.

Connects either wirelessly or via Ethernet, you plug your controller into it, and off you go.

Note: It puts your Steam into Big Picture mode on your computer, meaning you cant do something else on the computer while using Steam Link.

      • Thanks mate!

Does it work reasonably well on Wifi? Is there a way to plug in a controller/keyboard mouse directly to this device?

        • +1

It works perfectly for me on 5GHz wifi @ 1080p 60fps, but YMMV. Streaming graphics are beautiful and no artifacting/glitches visible.

        • @44sunsets: Very cool :)!

        • Sorry, I forgot to answer the 2nd part of your question: yes, there are 3x USB 2.0 ports on the Steam Link so you can plug in controllers/keyboard/mouse etc. Personally, I use the Logitech G900 (wireless) mouse with an Apple bluetooth keyboard paired with the Steam Link, and it works perfectly. I've also used an XBox 360 wireless controller, wired controller and they both work 100% as well.

I heard that certain peripherals such as some steering wheels aren't supported though, so best to check first.

      • I'm reading this as I ask - but would like some users experience.

looks like USB connectors on it. Thank you though for your explanation - appreciated.

Hi. CAn anyone tell me which one is better?

    nVidia shield
    Steam Link
Steam in home streaming to laptop

    Thanks

variations of the same thing, really comes down to your needs.
I have both the shield tv & the steam link, the main difference for streaming is the steam link is much cheaper and more adaptable. it's easier to use different controllers / graphics cards. not sure about the nvidia shield with different controllers, i assume it would work fine, but I think it only officially supports nvidia graphics cards.

I got the nvidia shield afterwards when they released plex media server for it, so it is a good all in one box if you get it for the right price. But if you're just looking for in home streaming, just stick with this deal, or cheaper still, plug your laptop into your tv and stream it that way

      • Good suggestion to plug laptop and stream that way -

can you elaborate on how to do this please?

I'm only aware of remote desktop and it isn't ideal for games - very jittery!

        • Think he meant plug your laptop directly into your TV

Other option, if you have a fairly recent Nvidia GPU in your gaming PC is to use Moonlight which will run on a stack of devices.

        • it might be remote desktop, when I open steam on my laptop and my pc when i'm on the same network, it allows me to play all my games on my laptop. it's not ideal connection wise, always use an ethernet cable where possible, especially if you're gaming pc and tv/laptop are on the other side of the house

Try doing it with an ethernet cable though, might solve your issues, i'd never want to rely on wifi for game streaming

Shield - android tv os, multimedia features all in one, works with nvidia graphics cards only
Steamlink - works with both amd and nvidia cards, works with different controller out of box dualshock 4, xbone s Bluetooth controller etc, but no multimedia functions
Laptop - same as steamlink but bigger in size, need to fiddle around for different controller support.

    • If you have an NVIDIA GPU, you can use Moonlight to receive the stream on your laptop or Android device with video output straight to your TV.

It's given new life to my old Transformer Prime.

  • Will this thing work with preiperals like the rocksmith USB guitar lead?

    • It should support any usb peripheral.

    • Supposedly you need to use the VirtualHere software to detect your Rocksmith cable.

I believe they used to have this available as a demo a little while ago but it's $20US now. If anyone has Rocksmith working on SteamLink without this, I'd love to know.
