What a cool watch! Looks like a turtle

    • Looks a little like the Rolex GMT Pepsi…

      • +20

Except they have completely different case shapes, crown locations, date compilation, bezel design…

        • +2

I could understand the down votes if I said it looks exactly like or 100% like a Rolex Pepsi, but all I said is that it looks "a little like" implying there are subtle similarities.

        • +2

@solidice: True, but literally the only similarity is the colour scheme of the bezel as I see it, everything else is very, very different.

        • +1

@solidice: Yeah doubt any of the people voting even own a Rolex, so not sure why the butthurt. I see the similarly!

        • @poop: It's really like saying every red sports car is a Ferrari. Yes, there is a similarity, but it is only the colour, not even the shades of the red and blue are similar to the Rolex.

        • +1

          No one said x = y.

You said yourself they are similar which is synonymous with the original comment. Don't worry, no one is going to mistake the Seiko for your precious Rolex.

My dad had this watch in the 80s. He would love this for Christmas.

    • My Dad still wears his from the 70s despite being given an expensive new watch in the interim… he prefers this one!

    • I've seen many of these go for a lot more on the second hand market.

  • Any deals on SARB017?

  • +1

    Good price.

  • If you prefer a different colour and the metal bracelet. The blue version is on the watch-code eBay store for $377. That combined with the c10auz 10% off code and cashback means the bracelet upgrade for around 20 bucks more.

    • Yeah I saw that. However, the bracelets are not their strongest point. I would certainly save the cash and tip in a little more for a high quality bracelet from Strapcode. You will appreciate the difference.

    • Would you have the link on this metal bracelet blue one?

  • Orient Mako Pepsi Auto Diver, all Japan made. about half the price .. :-) .. !! Fantastic watch, I have two and no, it's not because the first one broke. https://www.amazon.com/Orient-CEM65003D-Bezel-Automatic-Rubb…

The Mako is more of a competitor to the Seiko SKX009 in terms of build quality and movement. Both cannot be hard wound and the seconds don't hack. The Mako is certainly a fantastic watch for its price. Personally, I can't stand the crown at 2 o'clock. Why would they make it operate the day not the date or both?

      • The latest version of the Mako (Mako II) has dropped the 2 o'clock crown however the Pepsi version is currently hard to find. They're also more expensive, probably because the Mako I is on runout. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Orient-Mens-Mako-II-Japanese-Auto…

        • I'm really digging the Mako II with the new movement and single crown. Apparently quality is improved too. I think the Mako II USA version has a sapphire crystal too.

        • @ilikeit: After a little more digging it appears that Orient have not yet made a Pepsi bezel Mako II. Of course you could hack the blue Mako II with a Mako I Pepsi bezel, if you could find one that is .. :-) .. !!

        • @cornucopia: If they are a straight fit I'm sure there would be an aftermarket bezel on eBay.

  • Math problem? 319+19-8=320 delivered?

    • Just a typo. 309 before shipping and discount, not 319.

    • Fixed. Was doing a few things at once.

  • I had one of these from about 1981 for about 10-15 years. Kept knocking it on doorways going through and finally killed it.

  • 45mm diameter?? Sounds like some of you will be wearing a wall clock on your hands.

    • Not for the dainty of wrist, but I didn't find the diameter the problem. Is was the height (thickness). Insert double entendre.

  • SRP779K1 = Made in Malaysia. SRP779J1 = Made in Japan. You'll find this model number (K1) for a few hundred less than the J1 because it has poor resale value.

    • +1

"A few hundred less" than the Japanese model. Surely you can't be serious? The Japanese model costs slightly more, as does resale. This is a new model - all I see everyday is used models selling significantly higher than this NEW watch. Take this Watchrecon search for example, bare in mind these prices are in US$: http://www.watchrecon.com/?query=seiko+srp779&last_days=0

If you're willing to pay more for a 'J' on a watch face instead of a 'K' then by all means go for it.

      • Seiko watch prices vary significantly online for various reasons, so it's not a good price guide barometer. Some sell new without the box or papers and that brings the price down further. You'll see Seiko factory seconds J1 model watches sold for $150-200 cheaper - they're typically sold by traders in Singapore.

All J1 Seiko models say "Made in Japan" on the dial and that's what you're paying extra for. Rightly or wrongly, there's a perception that Japanese made is a higher quality product. And if you know anything about watches you know that perception plays a major role in their value - particularly resale value.

        • Yes, I know. It's the suggestion that the J version is a few hundred more than the K for a turtle. It's just a beater.

        • @ilikeit: A beater that can be bought new for $600 or $320, depending on where it's made, what country it's sold in, and if it comes with papers and box. You see the same wild price discrepancies with the SKX007J1 and SKX007K1.

        • @Chateau: >perception plays a major role in their value

          wild price discrepancies

So watches are like every other consumer item. Wow, that is some deep shit.

        • @Diji1: Are you stalking me? I think you need a hobby.

  • What's the regular price? / shop price?

    • You'll find this model in Australian bricks and mortar stores for around $600. They'll come with authenticity papers, Seiko presentation box, and warranty.

From online sellers you typically don't get the authenticity papers, Seiko box, and certainly no store warranty. And there's a high probability that they are factory seconds. Not that you will notice any defects unless you look really hard. The defects on Seiko factory second divers watches is usually a small area of poor machine finishing between the lugs.

  • Im not a diver but does a tank of air only last 20mins?

  • good alternative to the quintessential skx007…

  • Code appears to be for a $6 deduction. Still, good price all up.

    • The discount was $8 for me. After adding to the cart, go to the checkout and apply the code on the left-hand side. If the code doesn't work just quickly google another. That one seriously took 30 seconds. Good luck.

  • Great watch. Got the J1 'Made in Japan' variant earlier this year and absolutely love it. Great beater watch! Dial is legible when diving. Loses about 5 seconds over a 24hr period which is well within specifications. And it wouldn't be a Seiko without its awesome lume.

  • 4R36 movement isn't highly regarded.

Suggest you track down one of the many Seiko divers with the 6R15 movement (the 6R15 is not Grand Seiko quality) but in the same price range as this ozbargain.
