    • Only downside listed is the viewing angle. My Sony W800C has a slightly smaller viewing angle and it's fine for the most of the time.
I do wish it was better but it's so nice front-on that I get over it.

  • Hmmm pretty tempted!

  • Also, it's brand new. A few things I was looking at last week from the Sony eBay store were refurbs.

    Thanks, Sour Nipples.

If we were standing together I'd tweak them.

  • Does this play HEVC X265 Files from USB?

  • Seems to be a good price. Is the 49" one good price? It's 1400 after discount (someone on whirlpool said it was 1300 on Sony website last week though)

  • Nice one, been hunting for one to go with the PS4 Pro and looks like this one has the wide color gamut for HDR which is great since the other ~1000 HDR's dont.

    • You mean it's a 10 bit screen?

  • Pretty tempted to get this as a PC monitor and for PS4 pro with HDR. I'm not so sure about the panel though as it has a VA panel and not IPS

I bought the 4K 43 inch Philips monitor a few months ago (IPS panel), serving as an additional PC monitor and screen for my PS4. Then Sony announced HDR compatibility on all PS4… So I ended up selling the monitor and got this TV instead.

This TV works great as a Monitor. It definitely has better contrast than the IPS panel, and the viewing angle is pretty good for a VA panel. Remember, if you're going to use it for PS4 Pro, HDR should really make a difference. And I don't know any IPS screen that has HDR

      • Do you notice the contrast shift in general usage as a monitor? I'm used to IPS, so I have no idea how bad it can actually get, and especially at this size where the corners/side would end up being off angle.

        • In general, no. But this TV is definitely a lot better than other VA panels.

However, I would say that the Philips 43" 4K monitor is absolutely gorgeous. If you're not after HDR, then I would suggest the IPS panel. I changed from the Philips monitor to this TV as it will be primarily used for media (Movies and PS4).

        • @SourNipples: Thanks.

          Tough decisions!

Had been seriously considering the 43" Philips since it was announced, due to PWM in the 40". Then all the image retention complaints popped up on Hardforum. And now there's also another new Philips 40" VA curved monitor being released soon.

Actually surprised the 8bit IPS is still better than a 10bit HDR VA panel though.

*edit: Side note, seems the 49" version is IPS according to the review above. Didn't know IPS was even capable of doing HDR due to the contrast. It's still edge lit too.

      • Planning on getting the Phillips 43 but this is the same price. For a dedicated computer monitor would this be better?

        • For a dedicated computer monitor, go with the Philips 43. The Philips one would definitely be better for CAD work and image editing.

However, the few things I disliked about the Philips monitor is its thickness, lack of media friendly accessories (android, remote control…) and the power button. The power button is located at the back!

If you wanted something for media use, then go with this tv

        • @SourNipples:

Did you have image retention issues on the philips? That's something I hadn't heard of until this thread.

I'm really awaiting a 40" curved ips philips.

I don't understand types of backlight, nor hdr (is that just 100% gamut?). Don't know if I should care about freesync either.

          @justtoreply:
I think the image retention issue is fixed on newer ones. That issue was the first I checked when I got the screen, where I displayed the same image for an hour. There were no signs of image retention.
At the back of my monitor it showed a manufacture date of May 2016.

HDR basically has a higher contrast ratio. Something which IPS lacks.

        • @SourNipples:

          Thanks

      • Thanks for the reply, I didn't know about the 43 inch Philips monitor.

How do the response times compare between the two? Is there even a noticeable difference? It's hard to find actual numbers that aren't marketing BS. I currently use a Dell U3011 that has 7ms G2G but it averages at more like 13ms. Wouldn't want to get a screen with much more response time than that as I play mostly online FPS games.

  • Cheers for the link, perfect for my PC monitor.

  • Anyone that ordered one of these actually had it ship yet ?

    • nah not yet. I ordered on the 5th.

      • Mine arrived yesterday, FYI
