if you enjoy drinking vegetable oil this is a good deal

    • Not really.

      1.8g / 100ml = 18g per carton -> 55 cartons required for 1000g, that's over $100/kg.

Get canola oil for $2.50 a kilo and cut it with water and lecithin if you really like drinking vegetable oil.

      • bonsoy

the oil in other brands make them taste artificial as hell

        • IMO this is the closest alternative to Bonsoy at half the cost. I dodge most other brands.

        • @thevofa: not really

ive tried everything (trust me, i dont enjoy paying $5/L) nothing comes close

i think the closest is blending vitasoy with regular full fat milk and adding some kind of natural sweetner (as the sweetness is what gives bonsoy its unique tast)

        • @furythree: I used Bonsoy this morning for the first time in yonks (because I ran out of Soy Milky and it was the only thing I liked at the local shop). No doubt Bonsoy is the real deal for most, but it seems after that it's pretty subjective.

    • Thanks. I tried editing but cannot change store. Hopefully mods can do it.

  • For those that drink soy milk daily, I would definitely recommend the soy milk by Macro over this: it's organic, $1.79 every day @ Woolies, has the highest percentage of actual soy beans I've found (17%), and in my opinion is much better tasting.

    • Thanks for that link. I was looking for better, different options (I use Sanitarium's So Good and Vitasoy now) lately.

PS: Is there any difference (health-wise, as well as in any other case) between the so-called fresh milk we buy from the chilled section of supermarkets and the long life ones, like the one you've posted? Whenever I can't find the "fresh" ones on the shelf, I buy their long life alternatives, but I have this subconscious fear that they maybe full of chemicals (hence why the last longer to go bad than their fast-to-expire counterparts) and other nasties.

No worries, I tried a lot of different soy milks prior to ending up with Macro.

I think the only difference between long life and 'fresh' milk is the packaging, normal milk has to be kept cold as it has cream, where as most soy milks were packaged at room temperature as it doesn't contain anything that can go off.

        • I see. That makes sense. Ta

      • I can't see what the nutritional differences are and the ingredient listings are usually the same. Unless you are seeking a raw diet, and I'd expect even then the "fresh" versions are pasteurised or otherwise heat treated and not raw, then there should be no difference. I'd not be shocked if it's a simple marketing tactic to position plant milks in the chiller next to animals' milk and to make them appear "fresher."

        • A very good point, re your last sentence.

PS: Do plant milk get pasteurized too? I always thought they do that process to cow's milk only.

@AussieDaddy: I don't know but I can only assume. When I make plant milks at home they go off after a few days unless they're frozen (like in home-made ice-cream). Sure, industrial processes may be cleaner than my own, but I'd expect they'd do their utmost to mitigate any risks of bacterial contamination and pasteurisation seems the most obvious.

        • I normally use Pure Harvest or Vitasoy, "So Good" is no so good. the long life ones can last 2 weeks without going off in fridge, not sure what stuff they add…
Not sure where to get Bonsoy, will try Macro.
I drank freshly made real/pure soy milk growing up, so fewer ingredients the better. I can understand why they make soy mild taste like milk.

The original and the best all natural soy milk. Bonsoy Long Life Soy Drink 1L Purchase price $5.28 http://shop.coles.com.au/online/national/bonsoy-milk-long-li…

P.S. I'd avoid canola oil at all cost. it's the deal breaker for me. You can google why.

so it's gone up from 14% to 17%? do you know if aldi's is still 14%?

vitasoy is also 17%, but soyana is highest at 18% with no added sugar

      • Yes, it is definitely 17%. I can't confirm Aldi's soy as I've never had it.

      • I've heard this (about the taste being good) from someone else too recently so will give it a try. The actual soy content might be important for those depend on it for part of their nutritional intake but personally I'd go for whatever tastes better.

  • $2 every day at Aldi

Use to be $2 discounted at Coles, but with Aldi stocking it, it's $1.90 discounted as mentioned by BTB this week.

    • Which Aldi? (Never seen it there).

      • in cold milk section, my aldi has it

  • How is this one better than Vitasoy Original, which is often on specials at Colworths, ~$2?

Original is pretty close to Bonsoy. Close enough given half the price.

    • Personally Soy Milky has the closest taste to Bonsoy but it seems that this opinion varies widely.

      • Fair enough. Still, original has less numbers among ingredients, and as mentioned, is often around two dollars (Melbs)

  • Those soy milk didn't taste like soy, I prefer the Vitasoy from Hong Kong in Asian grocery shop for long life one in 6 packs (250ml each), also the fresh 2L from local manufacturer is around $3~3.50 per 2L in the fridge section since like 2~3 years ago? Soya King or Evergreen are way nicer than the one from ColWorths.

  • We have been drinking So Good for years now as a dairy replacement. Might give this one a go!
