For hardwood floors you'll need either the fluffy (soft head) or Absolute (soft head and motorised head included).

We just bought the V8 Absolute and love it - our house has bamboo and carpet.

    • Any of them would work fine on a hard floor but the Fluffy head would probably be best.

Technically speaking the V6 vanilla and Animal are for both floor types "Hard and Soft", whereas the Fluffy is a "Hard floor specialist".
I've been using a V6 Motorhead ("Carpet specialist") but even that works fine on hard floors.

  • FYI - V6 is 'older' model - V8 now out - hence reduction in price

  • The V8 is the new version, this is the older version.

I have the V6 Absolute (mostly bamboo floors) and highly recommend it.

This is the new V6 I believe.

The old V6 were selling for below $300

      • Can someone explain the difference in the model numbers?

        • V6 = 20 min battery time
          V8 = 40 min battery time
There's probably more but that's all that matters to me at the moment. Keeping an eye out for the next vanilla v6 bargain

        • @Jazza2400:

Also quieter, little bit more suction and apparently cleans out the dirt better when emptying.

You can get the new V8 for another $100+ more.

Absolute is the only one that is equipped HEPA, which to me is a must when looking for vacuum.

      Completely agree with this.
Or put another way, it is unbelievable that Dyson only puts HEPA filters on the V8 and V6 absolute, the $600+ ones.
It should be standard accords the whole range of a premium vacuum company.
If you get asthma or allergies, you know what I mean.

    • V8 absolute out of stock now :(

  • V6's were walking out the door as I picked up my V8…

$349 at JB HI-Fi atm for the V6 handstick - I dont know the range that well, but im assuming this one just has less attachments?

    • I just got one of these and it comes with the 2 other atachments also. I use it on both carpet and tiles and it works really well. Happy with it for sure.

    • That is correct, V6 animal has the extra mini motorised head. You can buy it separately for the V6 HS, and it will still end up being cheaper due to current sale price.

      • That's the old V6. I think the Good Guys has the newer ones.

        • Technically correct, but literally the V6 Handstick is just being renamed to V6 Cordfree and coloured more white, otherwise it is still the same vacuums. The ones with the old name 'Handstick' are being cleared out literally just because it has the older name. Anyone interested in the V6 models will benefit in getting the just the older name but for a cheaper price and same performance.

        • @cortex21:

Thank you for letting me know. I think I'll just wait for the V8. It seems like everyone is recommending that version over anything else.
Is the V8 Absolute the one for hardwood floors?

        • @niner: The V8 is already out unless you mean price drop? As I am not sure if good guys still have them listed as part of the 20% but you should definitely consider at that price as it has only just come out and sale prices at Christmas period will be uncertain if similar prices then.

Yes, V8 Absolute has the extra head dedicated to just hard floors.

The Good Guys removed it from their eBay store.

        • @niner: Ah okay, haven't looked recently but yeah don't blame them for doing so. If you can get it price matched at say Harveys ( if they are nice enough), worth getting at that price.

    • That's the old model.
