With the sheer number of faulty G4's out there, they should be banned from being listed on this site

    • +8

My 1 year old one died two nights ago. Was pretty bummed out. Agreed, stay away from the G4.

      • +2

Where did you buy it? Under Aus consumer law you should still be covered regardless of a 1 year warranty.

        • +1

Agree if its an aus model i'd definitely be calling LG and throwing ACL at them.

        • +3

The issue is that LG doesn't seem to be sure about the real root cause of the issue. People have reported that even replacement phone(s) bootlooped. The cut off date with the affected ones is inaccurate. Even LG G4 phones manufactured in 2016 are having issues. Apparently, playing Pokemon Go will increase the chance of bootloop happening earlier.

Also, it appears that most, if not all LG G4s are affected, and the way LG handles the warranty for these is pretty shocking. A good phone when it works, but it will fail.

Even with local warranty, you will be without the phone for a while. There have been reports of local retailers and/or LG refusing to honour warranty if they spotted any physical damage to the phone.

        • @netsurfer: So you ask for a refund if it's a major problem.
Having an unreliable phone is a major problem especially if you need it for work.

        • @netsurfer:
what are they actually repairing if the root cause is not found? so there is a good chance that a repaired device can fail?

        • From QD_AU ebay - I've sent them an eBay message, but I'm out of their 1 year warranty I believe (imported stock)

        • @PowerB: That doesn't matter, if they are an Aus based business they fall under our consumer law.

        • @28Degrees:

          They are based in Taiwan.

        • @PowerB:
Mine also died just exactly 1 year, ie. 5/10/2015, 5/10/2016.
It just suddenly felt into bootloop without any reason.

Sent qd_au message, and they asked me to send it back.
They told me it's a known and common issue and they're receiving lot of return phones so expect 1-2 months wait.

        • @BlackCaviar2016: when mine died, I was told by QD-AU that they have to recieve the phone back to them, before the 12 months period is up.

        • @albanyson:
Hmm, I did state that my phone is 1 year old.
They gave me a RMA # already, and I already sent the phone to them. Not sure what they gonna do!

        • @BlackCaviar2016: sounds good. When I was waiting for them to get back to me with the RMA, they said at the time, to be covered under warranty it needs to be back to them before the 12 months is up. They parcel got rejected and sent back to Australian post before I arranged for a redelivery back to them.

      • Nice phone, terrible heating issues and battery life.

        • Try this: When it starts getting warm, turn off WIFI, data, bluetooth and location for a few minutes and shut down all apps. If it cools down turn them back on and see what happens. If it doesn't, reboot the phone.

Please reply here or PM if that works. I know it's not a nice solution but I want to know if others are seeing the same as me.

As for battery life I have gotten use to charging it twice a day if I'm using it actively. a cheap portable charger is the way to go.

Uhh I thought using vouchers codes wasn't allowed in the t&cs of the C&C eBay voucher.

  • +1

Why are the comments related to service getting removed?

    • The mod updated OP description, so they removed the comments.

  • +3

A good advice to anyone trying to buy LGG4.It has manufacturing issues so don't buy

    • What kind of manufacturing issues? Is it the boot loop issue or there is something else?

      • +2

Wifi issue which is too annoying and can't be fixed by factory reset and need repair/replace of internal circuit.i have already gone through this issue.so beware

      • I have had 2 LG G4 phones where WIFI and Blutooth died and could not be restored even with factory reset. (Hardware issue). If this happens the motherboard needs to be replaced, just as for the bootloop.

  • edit: ok

  • The LG G4 is used not new phone. "This is as new and pristine condition but not brand new unit"

    • Do they still offer a 12 months warranty on used phones?

      • According to description: "All of our phones are fully backed by our 12MTH Australia-wide warranty and may have been activated earlier"

        • According to some of their feedbacks, the phones are grey and don't have local manufacturer warranty.

        • +1

@PW: When they say "our" i would assume its gonna be store warranty rather than local LG warranty. Most likely they will send it overseas to get it fixed. I would still avoid it as the phone seems to have lots of issues.

  • +3

Very long thread on LG G4 bootloops. Mine failed after 9 months. 1 month to be repaired. Buyer beware, i agree that model should be banned on ozb. It is not a bargain it is a timebomb.

  • Any cheap Huawei mate 8?

  • +2

Honestly stay away from LG G4 I have been fighting with qd_au (ebay seller) for over 4 months now trying to sort out my repair. I sent mine back for repair, received it back and literally not even 5 mins of use it starts boot looping again. So now I'm trying to get another replacement from them as they could not offer a full refund. BTW the LG G4 is still in warranty

  • +1

My 11-month G4 just conked it last week on bootloop. I have now joined the arena of people pestering qd_au for attention.

  • +2

Awesome deal on bootloop right now.

  • +1 on bootloop. A major problem is that once it bootloops, it's hard to get any data off the phone too (excluding SD).

The issue is related to the hardware in the phone, so poor wiring on one of the chips. A temporary fix is to freeze or heat up the phone so that you can get the stuff off it. No joke. Look it up on xda or reddit.

    • +1

      heat up the phone

      So, G4 + Note 7 = working G4!

      • Not quite, you will just end up with two expensive slabs of molten plastic and metal.

  • +1

The Honor is a USA model and no local warranty.

Moto G and Oppo F1 are better deals.

And I wouldn't touch the G4 with a barge pole, especially a used grey import.

    • Although repairs are performed in our overseas repair centre the phones can be returned back to our Sydney returns address.

      • +1

The G4 is a device with a known history of boot looping and a used one with potentially weeks of waiting for repairs overseas, no thanks.

The Honor 5X does not even have all the required Australian 4g bands considering it's a USA model.

        • The models we have are KIW-AL10.

        • +1

          @datafellows:

Which is the US Model with LTE Bands 2,4,5,12 and 17, practically useless for 4G here except for Vodafone

        • @datafellows: Who is 'we?'

        • @McFly:

          Our company :)

  • LG never again, rather have a note 7 blowing in my pocket than being tortured by this crap.
Had 2 flagships of this brand, bootloop, Bluetooth loop, wifi issues, very poor reception, flimsy body, poor service, poor firmware update, very slow.

    • Agree with LG never again, but not with note 7 comment. Both LG and Samsung can go suck a lemon as far as me ever buying products from either again.

  • +1

LG G4, good camera, poor phone design / QA. If you value your content, don't buy it. I lost months of photos and videos due to my poor backup regime.

If your phone is boot looping and you need your content off it, try the hair dryer method (google it). Worked for me long enough to see that my data was safely gone before going back to Telstra. The freezer method was too hit and miss and didn't work well for me.

    • As I have a replacement G4 (my 3rd) and don't want to sell it to some poor unsuspecting schmuck, I have photos going to an SD card formatted as media storage. I still back up frequently though.

  • +1

Stay away from the G4 peeps.it is designed to function for one year then bootlooping, meaning that you are out of warranty lol. I thought mine was in a good batch and would work flawlessly until the last week of my warranty period…

    • +1

designed to function for one year
until the last week of my warranty period

Even the fault function was faulty!

  • +1

Had to heat up my G4 to the point where the LCD screen would suddenly show what looked like "condensation". Then put the battery in and turn it on. Then keeping the hair dryer on it and ignoring the over heat msg that would pop up, it would stay on long enough to copy a some photos etc. Then it would hang. Then pull the battery, heat the phone and repeat. Managed to get 99% of data. Took about 2 hours. I did end up buying the G5 at the really cheap price $4?? Fantastic phone, but this time storing everything onto memory card just in case

    • Huh? You got a G5 for $4????

      • I mean $400 and something. Cant remember. think it was $430 with one of those ebay discount sales

        • Yeah okay that makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Pity you can't point me at a source for $4 G5 phones though. I'd buy 100 of them ;-)

  • +1

I would also echo that LG G4 should not be advertised here. It should have been recalled.

    • +3

Yes, my thoughts exactly on the recall front. If LG cared about their reputation or God forbid, possessed a shred of integrity, they would've recalled this PoS that is a phone. The fact that the price of this phone has fallen so far is a reflection of the quality issues that have plagued this phone. It's a shame too because otherwise this was a good phone that filled a certain niche in the lower end of the flagship phone market.

As it is, I can no longer recommend any LG phone. I've owned three LG phones (different models) that have come to a premature demise! I don't think that LG is capable of producing a durable phone. Save yourself the heartache and the cash and avoid. Like the plague.

On a side note to the LG marketing department how about this for your new corporate tag: C'mon, LG, F..k me. You can use that for free too.

  • Geez my TCL S3 (i think S3) got recalled before I even got it, so I bought a Lenovo K3 cause everyone said it was great. It took crap photos, over heated, took too long to charge and I cracked the screen within a couple of weeks. So I bought an LG G4 cause it has a great camera and I must say I love it. It's got to be coming up to a year now…. going to back ALL my data tonight after reading this. Does anyone make a phone with a great camera that's under $500 and is reliable?? 3 Phones in a year - all crap. I wish they still made Samsung Note II's, my wife's one still goes absolutely great years and years later.

  • Yeah, backup and pray.
