      • According to T&C's but not to practice.

        • What do you mean? If we purchase gift cards will they still honour the offer? Do you have successful experience previously?

        • +1

@DealWatcher27: Yes. I have previously bought gift cards from Dan Murphy's online and received the statement credit. Dan Murphy's gift cards are branded Wish cards which can be used at any of these stores.

        • @sween64: Wow, cool banana! thanks

  • +1

I am getting this on my Plat Reserve, this is despite having previously shopped online with WW and DM.
Rarely am I in the targeted pool, so this is a nice change for me.

Good time to use it with the other WW spend $100 get $20 Amex deal

  • on my qantas discovery card, but not velocity escape card

  • -8

hey guys who think giftcard purchases work, read the T&Cs:

    Gift card purchases are excluded.

    • +3

^^ must be new to this…

      • +3

        Unprofessional I guess

    • +3

I bet my whole life on it that it will work

      • IIRC they could see more details for purchases made at DJ on the DJ cards so in theory they deny the credit. Then again the last time I had a DJ Amex was 6 years ago so things may have changed.

        • +3

Probably privacy laws prevent AMEX from checking out what DJ items were bought.

DJs and AMEX are two separate companies.

AMEX DJ card is just AMEX aproaching DJ saying 'hey wanna join up' DJs goes 'hmmm ok'.
          So thus no database sharing

        • @Turd: This is true; DJs don't have access to cardmembers' details and we always redirect them to AMEX themselves.

    • +1

Yes you are right, but there are lots of evidence it works. I have recently registered 4 amex for a different DM's Amex Offer and purchased 4x$50 DM giftcards.
Received all the 4x $10 credits back successfully.

Seems to be a deterrent clause rather than an enforced one. But of course don't take my word as a guarantee.

  • Reminder: This is a targeted deal. To hide targeted deals in the future, click the hide link below the description and then check targeted deals. See this thread for more information.

    • Just ask AMEX and you will receive…

  • Would that offer be eligible with GC purchases made through cashrewards for the additional 5%?

    • No

      • -1

It is interesting to see that we all believe AMEX gives credit for gc purchase because AMEX cannot look into the transaction details and find out what item we purchased. However, no one questions how cashrewards manages to do that? Maybe it is doable, just that AMEX never bothers doing it or purposely don't want to do it. That is why credit from AMEX is quite fast but not so from cashrewards.

I personally think if AMEX likes to always put gc exclusion into T&C, they want to stop it if it is easy/cost free. That also means in the future when it is actually easy to find out gc purchase, these offers will stop working for gc. But I like to be optimistic and think this will not happen in the near future :)

        • +1

cashrewards puts a bulk email to retailer or at least one person who deals with it and they go hey what did person x buy… that person will approve or deny it. Thus cashrewards takes so longggggg

          Just my speculation.

Otherwise it's a breach of privacy laws if it's automatic.

        • Woollies gift cards purchased through Cashrewards online are billed to your credit card by "EVERYDAY GIFT CARD 6673 BELLA VISTA" - so it's obviously a no-brainer for AMEX to quarantine the transaction.

On the other hand Dan Murphy's gift cards purchased online are billed to your credit card by "DAN MURPHY ONLINE 8305 BELLA VISTA" just as any other online purchase for wine/beer/etc - therefore it's impossible for AMEX to quarantine the transaction as they don't know what it's for ;)

        • @Turd: Cashrewards sends you to the retailer with a tracker so they know you've come from CR, the retailer (who obviously knows what you've bought) tells CR how much cashback you're going to get. Retailer pushes the info rather than CR pulling it.

As for the delay, it's so you can't take the cashback then return the purchase for a refund.

  • If I understood the T&Cs… it's 15% back from the combined spending from all those retailers right? Can anyone confirm?

    • +1

My Short Take: Spend online, up until 31 Dec 2016, single or multiple transactions, with any of the 4 stated retailers, max credit back $50 (Spend total of $333.33)

  • Woolworths Caltex eligible for this? (Like through GC?)

    • Just get Dan's

  • Limited to the first 40,000 Cards to save the offer.

Why have they increased the limit on a targeted deal?

    • +1

Maybe (hopefully) they'll expand the list of targeted cards in the future to help reach the limit

  • -1

Not on my plat edge, plat reserve or charge :(. Time to call them hahah. I spend a min of 30k each per cards a year

  • -2

Thanks . Got it on one of my 6 cards

    Cheers

  • +1

one or more transactions… is it mean unlimited purchases? This is better than the 5% egift card offer.

    • maximum of $50

    • Whoops didnt't mean to +1
You can activate offer once only, but over several spends up to a max of $50 dollars back .

  • +1

Got it on none of my cards :-(
I wonder what kind of algorithm they use to determine who gets it?
Number of current saved offers? Number of times store visited already? Amount spent at those stores already? Number of offers redeemed already?
Or is it just a giant lucky dip…

    • I wonder what kind of algorithm they use to determine who gets it?

I would say all of the above factors you listed.

Or is it just a giant lucky dip

      Highly unlikely.

Fairfax media has run a number of articles about how American Express has been campaigning for flat surcharges (regardless of card type). Thus card users with expensive merchant fees (Amex, Diners) are being subsidized by Visa/Amex users.

It seems like these offers are an elaborate ploy to build up a bigger user base, get the users to push for amex acceptance at merchants and get the rest of the population to subsidies the Amex users 'perks'

  • Combine with David Jones $30 cash back offer, pay only $97.50 for $150 worth of items.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/272361

    • Just trying to get my head around how best to do this, with 2 seperate cards.

      My thoughts are:

Buy $335 of DJs gift cards through davidjones.com.au on each card, to end up with $670

Then, go in to store buy something for over $970, and pay using 2 x $335 gift cards and then pay the balance with the two Amex cards with at least $150 each.

      Total spend: $335 + $335 + $150 + $150 = $970

      Total credit: $50 + $50 + $30 + $30 = $160

      • The way I read it, max credit is $50 per card, so max total credit with 2 cards would be $100 not $160…

        • There's two deals though? A spend $150 get $30 back one as well

        • @antt: yes you are right, didn't realise there are 2 deals going at the same time, sorry!

      • Biggest question is, what is worth buying at DJ?

    • Is it possible to combine offers (15% off & $30 cash back) if it's on the same credit card??

  • so more gift cards at dan murphy then? $300 dollars and get $45 back?

  • Thanks OP, received on 4 of my 4 Platinum edge cards.

    • Don't they have a limit of 2 AMEX cards for one person?

      • Just to clarify. For Amex issued cards its- 2 Amex credit cards and 1 charge card.

    • +1

I think he meant, primary and 3 supps cards

  • Got it on my Qantas Discovery. Not in my CBA one, but I haven't used my Woolworth $20 for $100 on that one, maybe that's the reason? Cause otherwise, it may stack?

  • Does spending at Woolworths petrol station count as Woolworths? My bad- online only.

    • But egiftcard from Dan first. Most Caltex-Woolworths branded petrol station accept it (at least in Vic, they do, not sure other states).

Just wanted to say that I just got an email from AMEX that I won a platinum pass to the SOLD OUT cold play concert in December

    • Luclky duck

      • I know , I'm excited too

Apparently they are worth over $250 each !!

        • I'll be happy if I won the 250k MR points. But yeah good win.
