you've been taken for a ride

  • Wondering what about gift cards under the circumstances, can these be returned by any chance ?

    • Returned no, but can be used.

Sorry to see some people have had bad experiences. We've been having the opposite and loving it.

We've been renovating and have grabbed so many bargains.
The Honda generators at 50% off were superb value. Nobody comes close to those prices for Honda branded ones.
Hot water systems and quality entry doors at 40% off. Even if they were at RRP, then discounted, the prices have been excellent.
50% off in electrical has been very good to us, 50% off on some stuff like bulk packs of nails, screws etc… 50% off on good hooks for hanging pictures, 50% off on a wireless door bell and extra button for a second door… I'm sure there's more.

Sorry, almost 2am and absolutely buggered, but wanted to share a positive experience from the sales.

Not saying there is not crap pricing and you could find similar pricing elsewhere on some thinmgs, but like I have said before… For the stuff we have been looking for during the reno and comparing pricing elsewhere, we've saved an absolute crap load and grabbed some good bargains.

      Yeah happy here too.

As with any shop and any sale, you need to do the research and understand not everything, if not the majority, will be a worthwhile buy.

      • +1

Yep, pretty sure some people here are either trolls stirring up crap, never actually walked into a store during these discounts, are disgruntled customers looking to bag Masters, employees of opposition businesses, don't actually compare prices or all of the above. :-p

        • +1

Ha. Well, we have the Coles/Woolies weekly discounts attracting huge positivity. Just forget that those prices are the norm and many are usually found at IGA.

  • The only thing that isnt on sale and im hoping it will be are the draws all the washers and accessories down the fixing isle

    • Haha the champion drawers…wonder if they will do a dick smith fixtures sale.

      • Not at the dick smith prices though.

        • Not going to be selling them. Wasa sticker on them saying they will be returned to vendor

        • @jjoker: dang.

I'm going to miss them. They were great to find any weird or obscure fitting. I have no idea who carries such an extensive and diverse range otherwise. Same in the plumbing section, just about every version of brass fitting available especially in the small 1/4" and 1/8" range. Go into Bunnings looking for them and you will get a blank stare…

  • If you're planning on getting anything expensive, check out more than one Masters store - we're finding different prices on the same item in different stores. No surprise but they just seem to make up the prices as they go along.
And just for fun, they rearrange the store every few days so if you go back for one item and its gone, it might just have been moved……..
Still - good for some cheap xmas presents for the Gardening Grandparents you never know what to buy for! EG - Garden kneelers and mini greenhouses for seedraising.

This has been discussed to death but Masters don't own the stock anymore. There is a person in every store from the company that does and the prices are set at a level to ensure they can sell all the stock by the closing date and give them the best return.

      • Prob those dudes who have an american accent that i noticed talking to the local staff and counting some stocks etc at diff stores

One more thing - On some items you can get an accurate historical price of what something sold for in the past by checking the Masters Ebay account. They don't have anything 'in stock' on there, but the prices I found were accurate…… with a large kicker for "postage" added on the top of course….

  • walked in thinking I'd buy some paint
even at 40% off their prices are terrible

    • what price do you expect to be paying? and for what brand?

  • Surprisingly, there are plenty (10-20) EGO 56v line trimmer (with battery) left in Toorak store. Springvale and Oakleigh store have none left.

$238.7 after extra 10% discount, sorry I know, old deal ($199) is better.

    • For that cash be better off with a petrol model.

      • Aldi was selling petrol line trimmer for like $89?

I wonder if anyone tried it.

        • I did. Used it last weekend - took a long time to start first off but subsequent start ups were ok. Only problem I had was the line supplied in the box just disintegrated within 5 minutes of use such that I had used all the supplied line within 15 minutes.

Hoping I can get some stronger line at Bunnings and make better use of it next time. It has been about a decade since I last used a line trimmer so have begun to think I have been doing something wrong - but the line should be about to slap up against a fence a couple of times as I move along right?

  • BTW - Masters staff advised I CAN use my Masters Gift card at Woolworths stores.

    • BTW - Masters staff advised I CAN use my Masters Gift card at Woolworths stores.

This has been the case since Masters Gift Cards were made available and also Masters/Woolworths said this again when they announced the closure.

  • Do they have any good leaf blowers?

    • 2 or 4 stroke?
      Electric or battery?

      • Er, dunno. Good ones.

  • Any sales on the Weber?

    • Any sales on the Weber?

      You're too late for that.

      • Not totally true - they still had some weber BBQs for sale (local store is Albion Park, NSW) but sadly just the charcoal ones (not the gas fired ones).

  • Anyone know if there's any Ego chainsaws (skin only) left at the VIC stores?

    • I saw three on the shelves at Northland this morning.

  • I picked up an Electrolux Condenser Dryer for ~$500 non display stock. They still had 1 or 2 more + some display stock at Landsdale WA.
Same model at Appliances Online is $738, $699 at Good Guys.

They also had a Teka model for ~$400 (with all discounts applied) but it was the display model and despite being a good looking unit I thought it safer to stick with Electrolux if I was going to be in the position of handling warranty claims without Masters to turn to in the future.

    • I got a couple of Teka items with my kitchen. You are right about them having shitty warranty support, it may have gotten better but 4 years ago they were changing warranty contractors and they had zero clue. I ended up making a deal to replace my induction cooktop which meant I didn't have to return mine but I had to install it myself (or pay). It worked out well for me anyway as I was moving out so put it in the new place.

Apart from that problem, and the unit that failed was a display model, I found their dishwasher to be excellent and the new induction cooktop I got to also be excellent. Just thought I would post as I am the only person I know who has any of their appliances

Just thought I would post as I am the only person I know who has any of their appliances

So you're the one who purchased them, always wondered who it was.

        • Only one in Australia maybe :) apparently they are one of the world's biggest brands, biggest in Europe and make a lot of other manufacturers products for them (if my research from back then was correct) . Their 70cm induction cooktop was available at appliances online when I got mine replaced (4 years ago) for 1500 which at the time was half the price of many other brands

        • @Jackson:

Correct. Have a look at their dishwashers they look identical in appearance to the Samsung ones with same button configuration and display

I picked up the EGO 56V Cordless mower (model: LM2001E) for $408.87, there were 5 units left after my purchase at Hoxton Park.

They had 6+ blowers and roughly 6+ trimmers, the trimmers may have been of varying models.

I was in the store about 2 weeks ago when they previously had the "extra 10% off sale" and the mower worked out to be $438, there was about 26 in stock at the time so I held of. Only 6 were left when I popped into the store today so I bit the bullet.

Don't bother buying any thing from there since there is no exchange or refund or warranty. No protection and it looks like GA Australia won't bother you to give anything back if it there is a product is faulty

    • I saw big signs today claiming they refund for faulty and honour all warranty.

If it's a masters brand you get a refund.

  • They still have loads of Resene paint. A NZ paint supplier as good as Dulux. Get a 1 litre tin of exterior for $25, which I was in the market for. That's a deal cos I recently bought a 1 litre tin from a Dulux shop and it was $50.

  • Picked the MGS 625ex B&S mower for $345 after failing with a few local mower shops to get the price anywhere near that for the same engine.

Within the last few days stock has reduced dramatically at Bayswater. Over 10 EGO mowers last week to 0 today. About 6 boxes left of the mower I bought but got to pick the most undamaged box fwiw
