New XBOX 360 E 4GB Slim + Peggle 2 - $109 (Free NSW C&C or + Delivery) @ JW Computers

250

Just noticed this :) Cheaper than EB games wants for pre-owned stuff (they're asking $108 for a pre-owned slim). Still a good console to give the kids/use in a spare room etc etc

Plex being free on consoles makes the 360 still a very versatile buy even if just as a media extender with benefits! ;)

  • 4GB kills the deal for me. Internal XBox 360 drives are still pricey. External ones have limitations. Pity I'd love a spare.

    • External ones have limitations.

Like what? I thought with recent updates you could just plug in any external HDD?

And it's not difficult to replace the internal with a standard 2.5"

      • I have had trouble downloading games directly to external HDD.

        • Plenty of info out there on easily chucking an off the shelf WD drive into the 360 if you're still having problems.

        • @StewBalls: since you guys seem to have a clue, I have a 1st gen 360 with the 60gb drive in top, and I got a 120Gb drive, but when I put it on the xbox doesn't like it. Any ideas about something you need to do to initialise it with a different unit? (I bought the drive off a friend when his 360 crapped it)

          Google.

@Jackson: Yes, there's a ton of guides & some dedicated apps out there for initialising/formatting drives for use with 360s.

HDDHACKR was the last one I used, but that was a few years ago, so maybe there's something better out now if you just google Xbox 360 hacking or homebrew you should find heaps.

          @StewBalls:

          +1 here.

I went from my 4GB to 250GB for about $50 using hddhackr

@Jackson: @Jackson: maybe it was the 120GB drive that karked it. I ask because I've had no problems switching 20,60 & 120GB drives.

@bargainhunter: yeah this is the bit I didn't get, it's an official xbox drive and it's not even really internal, you would think it's just us and playful it's not. Will work it out and post here some day

      • External drive works fine with most games - you can save data to it, install games on it etc.

However.. if the xbox360 game has "hard drive required" on the case, it won't work with an external drive. Not sure why, but somehow it does a check for an internal hard drive.

The one advantage with an external hard drive is you can use it with both and xbox 360 and a PC (although the latest Windows 10 anniversary update caused problems).

Peggle 2 on the official website is $15.95 and an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller is about $40 when on sale (or $59 at Jb retail price) which makes it $34 for the console :D

  • there's a guy on Gumtree selling brand new sealed 250gb 360 with Kinect for $105, located Parramatta, though it's the original slim.

    • Is there much practical difference?

      • No difference in terms of gameplay, just minor component revision, hook in the hdmi cable and you're good to go!

  • For anyone who buys this and wants to go after more space (though 4gb was enough for me since I was 95% physical back when I had a 360), remember that getting an OFFICIAL Xbox HDD will give you access to 400 or so really good Xbox original games like Lego Star Wars, Tony Hawk, Spider-Man, and the GTA trilogy to name a few. They all look (profanity) amazing upscaled too, especially when compared to how they look via an AV cable.

    • What do you mean by "access", as in a free download? I thought the free game deliveries on xbox live were time specific and limited?

      • As in "If you still have a stack of several hundred PS2 (or Xbox) games like me, you can stick 'em in your 360"

You will need the disc, is the uh, gist of it.

However you'd be surprised how many classics keep popping up in Cashies for like 3 bucks all the time.

        • I still have the original xbox console and a ton of games for it. Never even thought about playing them through my x360. There are some good games for it but many haven't aged well and also it's lacking in the RPG department. I remember there were a few average RPG titles on the xbox such as Balder's Gate, but not as plentiful as the x360. Still good for shooters and sports games I suppose.

@wolfenator87: Man, Balder's Gate was the shit. Give the list of compatible games a Google and see what you've got, 10/10 they look fantastic man.

  • How about RROD? is this model reliable?

    • Slims are far less likely to bonk out.
