Thx!! Just in time… ill buy in the morning

  • Stack with woolworth amex deal?

    • +2

I don't think so. Woolworths amex is purchases on woolworths.com.au

      • what Woolworths Amex deal?

        • Last month, there was a spend $100 on Woolies online, get $20 off on Amex. I don't think it's available anymore.

        • @Zaenille: oh i see, thought it is gift card purchase :)

  • +1

Woolworths website still have problems ! Can't load my egiftcard for few days now.

    • Should be fixed already last night.

      • True. I noticed it started working yesterday.

  • +45

Repeatedly drop and raise gift card discount by half a percent for unlimited OzBargain exposure.

    • +9

Seriously though, I think it should be a requirement to state the standard discount in the title so that the true value of the deal is more apparent. eg. "5.5% off (up from 5.0%)".

    • +4

But it's twice as good as quarter a percent

      • However the equivelant of these, BigW gift card, were available at 10% off in store around a year ago.

        • +1

not exactly equivalent when bigW egift required you to spend at bigW.

for the work around; you needed to bigW and purchase physical wish gift cards for your value to be extended to the Woolies branches of DM Masters BWS…

        • +2

          @chinezejew:

Nah it was leading up to Christmas 2015, you could buy BigW physical gift cards for 10% off, and they could be used through the whole Woolies group.

  • -7

    If I buy a $100 gift card I save $5.50?
    Not worth the effort.

    • +11

$5.50 per week for 52 weeks of shopping for a moderate size family is $286, I think it is a big saving to OzBargainers here. even if you don't shop that much but I believe with fuel and groceries for a person would easily be around half that amount of saving. oh, plus interest and other special deals combined. so, it is worthy!

      • +3

Or.. and this is a crazy idea, shop somewhere other than Woolworths and you'll probably save a hell of a lot more than this?

        • +5

somewhere is not effective as 'how much discount you gonna get', never pay full price and get the specials which you are actually in need of, fuel with 4c discount is not much BUT a 5-5.5% would definitely make your top up the cheapest. sure Aldi has lot of cheap items but they are just not what Woolworths have, plus all the rewards from FFPs to Woolworths Dollars (shittest but still better than none) and weekly/monthly promotional spend for money off shop etc. as a true OzBargainer, I shop all stores for cheapest prices for items I need :)

        • +5

@webtherapist: oh, these are the most annoying things: trolley with coin to use and return for coin back - you help Aldi save money instead of them paying someone to do this job, credit card SURCHARGE instead of any cards you want to get points and saving incentives, limited one to two long queue with rush instead of choices of selfserve to to be served and even express lan for few items. I believe these little things make the saving not so good after all from Aldi :)

        • +1

Dan Murphys is consistently the cheapest for booze.

        • @blighst: Cheaper than Aldi?

        • @blighst:

          why did you get negged??

          Ill give you a +

Pricebeat policy and 5.5% off makes DM hard to beat.

        • @virhlpool:

          brand vs brand

or you talking about substitutes/ alternatives?

          Baileys VS Aldi?
          VB Vs Aldi?

        • @chinezejew: Product category vs product category. e.g. Several equivalent brands vs Aldi beer OR Asahi brewed in China (and tasting like crap) vs Aldi Beer

        • @chinezejew:
Aldi may be occasionally cheaper but their range is hardly the same.

          • 5.5% off + Cashrewards makes dan my preferred.
        • -1

@webtherapist: Reading that sounded like a Woolworths commercial haha.

I'm not just talking about Aldi, but hell even Coles have better pricing mostly. There's plenty of independent shops out there where you can save a small fortune, Coles and Woolies just trying to muscle in their own home brands.

All the things you mentioned (trolley's, CC surcharge etc) are all built into their pricing structure, they're not offering it to you for free. At least with Aldi you know what the cost is so have a way to actual avoid it.

I will admit though, saving a bit more at Dan Murphy's is always handy though, but I'd prefer not to tie my money up in a gift card that I may not spend for a while, the minuscule savings really aren't worth it for me, but obviously people on here froth over it (and as mentioned by others, gives CR a free kick every week or so changing it between 0.2-0.5% up and down).

        • I only use it to fill up my car, the Woolies Caltex near me has diesel cheaper than anyone else, add on top the 5% discount with Wish cards it's a no brainer.

      • -8

        Gee thanks web the rapist.

Did you realise that spaces in the username are permited?

        • +1

why are u so furious? not enough bargains??

      • +1

Considering there is no 100% guarantee of all cashback being awarded I'd tone down the figure of $286.

    • +14

you're on the wrong website mate

    • I save about $400 a year by buying these gift cards for groceries. I've been doing it for years so that's more than $1000 saved to date!

  • +5

Whaaaaat?! Just bought $100 at 6pm this afternoon.. Anyway, just 50c difference

    • +9

I'll take that ozbargain badge thank you very much :)

  • +12

We need to se 7% or more.

  • Anyone knows how long it normally takes for the egift card to be available in your inbox after purchase? Minutes? Hours? Days?

    • +4

Maximum is 3 hours, I normally get egiftcard within 2 hours/

      • @kendo uh no.

    • Upto 48 hours especially if you are a newcomer.

    • It takes 4-5hrs for me sometimes.

    • I have had waited for over 48 hours once even though they said it can take up to 12 hours. It was because they were going through a fraud investigation, and I had to tell them "it's not fraud mate".

  • +1

My father's birthday tomorrow, should I just email him a gift card? lol

    • +4

Buy the egiftcard, go to your local Woolies and buy a physical one.

      • Does this work?

        • +1

          Yes.

        • @KBZ: what about other gift cards available at Woolworths?

        • @dyl: Should work, have done so many times :)

        • @webtonmoy:

What cards in particular do you purchase? In the FAQ it states gift cards aren't purchasable with the gift cards.

Edit: yep, it worked for super cheap gift cards…

        • @dyl: Previously I bought Officeworks and JbHifi Gift cards using wish egift card.

        • +1

          @webtonmoy:
Yeah, ended up with supercheap. The staff told me that (to the best of their knowledge) you can't get Woolworths gift card with an egiftcard, though the rest seem to work

      • r u sure this is even possible? physical stuff dont exist nomore its all online dude

    • +1

I'd personally prefer to receive $94.50 in cash than a $100 Woolies voucher. The only real reason to buy someone a voucher is to show you've put a tiny bit of thought into it - a Woolies voucher doesn't really demonstrate that!

      • The idea is more to force them to actually buy something for themselves with it :p

        • +2

          Like the weekly food shop?

        • @callum9999:

          Dad, not mum. :P

But I see your point, which is why I intended on buying another gift card with the Woolworths one.

      • If that option is available to you, you will be a millionaire in no time and WW will be bankrupt in no time.

  • +2

Damn bought just before TA posted it. Feels like got ripped off 50cents.

  • Can i buy this with credit card or it will be considered as cash advance?

    • +3

It shows as purchase with a merchant so it shouldn't be considered as cash advance.

  • +3

Yes you can. I always buy with my credit card

    • Double dip with Amex points too

  • just curious how much value do people buy?

    • I usually bought $50. Can use the gift card to top up Opal card as well so it indirectly gives discounts for public transport.

    • $1000 - $2000.

    • +3

I buy $500 at a time. Some of my friends say its not worth the effort. Well 5% off diesel atm is 6 cents a litre discount. So with a 4 cent voucher thats 10 c. I buy 150 litres at a time and spend $5 in store (milk at same price as supermarket) That gets another 4 cents a litre off = $6 so I get my milk for free. Pick up my Dan Murphys order next door pretty easy to spends the $500

    • The value we buy depends mainly on the % discount and how much we currently have on gift cards.
We compare interest rate on our saving account currently around 2% or 0.16% per month (nice round eg figures and no compounding interest)

With this figure if you purchase 5.5% gift cards but dont get round to spending the value for 3 months, the savings would almost equal the interest if cash was just left in the savings account and bought when required 0.16%*3 = 0.48%
order on 6% gift cards in 3 months down approx to 5.5%

Looking at the expired deals for cash rewards here on ozbargin you can check the frequency and % of past discounts, big ones 5.5 end of June, 5.75 end of September smaller 5.25/5.3 in between

      From cash rewards
5% available everyday - only buy if/when run out of other discounted cards
      -value 1 weeks expenses ($250)
5.5% buy what we think we need till larger discount
      -value maybe 2-3 weeks ($500-$750)
6% upper upper limit of the discount, we buy plenty to also buy other gift cards like event cinemas/David jones when they are 10% off - something like a 3 month cycle? For us and for use as gifts
      -value maybe $3k

$250 per week the extra 0.5% is worth about $65 a year
Everything above is natural for me so zero thought or effort

    • +1

I buy $100 for coles and Woolworths every week, and sometimes I can skip a week without buying.

  • 5.5% off a 5% WOW staff discount for an iPhone 7, then TRS refund. I think yes!

  • Don't see any reference to Masters on the egift site anymore…

    • They still work at Masters though

  • This is now the 5th time the % has increased, a few days after I buy a giftcard. We are out of sync, we will recover!

  • +6

Good stuff. Advice: Don't buy from groupon, been waiting days and still no eWish card.

Buy from cashrewards, winning 4 hours later.

    • +5

      groupon = fail

they have let so many of us down and their time is short

  • As far as I can see there is no way to refer a friend (no information about this at "https://www.cashrewards.com.au/refer-a-friend". UPDATE: I see in "EDGE" but not in "CHROME".

The contact us form also doesn't work (if "no suggestions found") on question 1 (it tries but fails to complete the form).

    • +3

i have referred friends. On home page under where it says my sing in/account/get paid now there is something that says refer mates & get $5. If you click on that all the info pops up.

Bear in mind though, you wont get $5 by your friend signing up and buying gift cards. They have to make a Qualifying Purchase(s) of at least twenty dollars ($20.00 AUD) through the Program within ninety (90) days after signing up as a member of the Program. Wish gift cards are not a qualifying purchase. A Qualifying Purchase means any purchase through the Cashrewards system in line with the prevailing terms and conditions which results in Cashback to the member.

      • Being negged doesnt bother me but can someone let me know why I was negged? If i have written something incorrectly would love to know for the future. thanks

    • +2

Is adblock on? I can't see the refer a friend info when my adblock is on.

      • +1

        Thanks, that was it :-)

  • Thanks. Saved 5 bucks

  • Thanks, just in time. Down to my last $ in my ecard.

  • You don't have to use the entire gift card in one go I assume, balance will remain after the initial transaction?

    • +1

      Correct.

    • +4

      That's right.
You can also download the Woolworths money app, stores your gift cards number/pin, shows balance and transaction history.

Also add your Woolworths rewards card number, shows when your fuel dockets expire and your rewards balance (check up on woolies twice in 3 months online order points have not been credited)

    • You can also do split payments and pay for something using multiple gift cards/payment types, which is handy when you've got a couple that have weird values like $1.52 and $0.65 left on them. :P

  • Good deal OP, thanks…. was there a 6% discount offer recently? I thought I caught a glimpse of it but forgot about it after that.

    • +1

I thought so too! But my ozbargain searching skills are lacking!

  • YEAAH! Wanted to order from DM but I kept putting it off and now I'm glad I did :D

  • Could someone please tell me if physical gift cards could be used online at big w?

  • +1

Ordered a card this morning stuck on payment pending on the wishcard site is this normal? shows up on bank statement as debit authorisation with the amount.

    • I found cashrewards is a bit hard to reach. If this happens to us, how should we go about getting support from Cashrewards?

      • Give TA a message. He's usually pretty good at talking to us on here. If he doesn't help solve your problem just mention it in the comments and he'll be right on it.

    • Same here. Completed the order but got back to same payment page. Order history didnt show the recent purchase. Not sure if it stuck somewhere.

      • I called, it's sorted now not sure if timing coincidence or intervention but great call support

    • This has happened to me also, ordered last night, payment still pending today.

Called Woolworths money, said wait another 24 - 48 hours….
