Xiaomi Mi5 Pro (128GB ROM, 4GB RAM) for $493.46

Description says HK stock, not sure if that means it has global ROM…

Note: Does not support Band 28

Standard disclaimer…if something goes wrong, you might very well be on your own, or ship the device back to China at your own expense…

Geekbuying have also had some questions raised on their shipment speed.

  • HK Stock means it's shipped from Geekbuying's Hong Kong warehouse. It has nothing to do with the phone ;)

    • Thanks for the clarification

So what is the ROM on this one? If it needs flashing to get global ROM, it would be less attractive than Banggood's version which has Global ROM…

      • Flashing to global ROM is really quite easy and best to do anyway. Go with what's cheaper on price.

I've had no problems with GeekBuying and their shipment speed. Some people have complained because they don't get a notification that it's shipped til about a week later and then it arrives three days later.

Which is same speed as vendors like GearBest but they ship immediately and take longer in postage time.

This phone doesn't support Band 28, cannot use with Telstra and Optus network.

    • +2

You can use it with Telstra and optus you just don't get the 700mhz band.

      • Is the 700mhz band available everywhere or just in the inner city?

        • +1

Supposedly better for country locations for coverage and speed. 700mh is available everywhere though but I'd double check. There is a website that lists the towers and what frequency they're on near you but I can't remember the name of it off the top.of my head.

        • @adrianhughes1998:

Thanks, very tempted so get one but also thinking to wait until Xiaomi got a special edition like what they did with the Redmi Note 3.

        • +1

I'd say neither, but "many places". So, basically having 700mhz is better for anyone on Telstra and Optus, doesn't matter city or country.
For a lot of people not having 700 is no big deal though, but having it not only helps with reception but congestion as well. (1800Mhz is quite congested)

        • @divious:if they havent brought one out now they won't ever. Mi5 has been replaced by Mi5s so I'd say there wont be a gkobal version.

From Indian reviews they've said that xiaomi hasn't pushed the mi5 very much in India so this means there probably won't be a global. Plus the fact that the only reason there was a Redmi Note 3 global was because mediatek aren't allowed to sell in India so they had to make a Qualcomm version.

I have a mi note pro without band 28. Living in country Vic and reception and speed was crap. Inside at work it was always on 3g or h+.

Some places outside it would switch to 4g. In Melbourne suburbs it was no problem. 4g everywhere and in some areas 4g+

A few days ago I borrowed a Telstra sim and what a difference. 4g and full bars anywhere I went.

Did a speed test and where the Optus sim would get me 2-3mbs downloads the Telstra sim was between 50-80 in the same location indoors.

So I switched to Telstra BYO plan. $70 a month for 10gb. Did manage $10 off making it $60.

I ordered a mi mix the other day (not sure when I'll get it as production is low) and it too won't have band 28. But couldn't care less now.

  • Is it fully compatible with Vodafone network? I just checked with willmyphonework website, it said: "Device is compatible with some of the network carriers frequencies. It may work."

    • Google for the bands support on Whirlpool forums. There is a guide there that lists what bands and frequneices are used by operators.

    • Missing Band 5 LTE which is 850MHz. That's Vodafone's answer to band 28.

I ordered a Mi Max from these guys 2 weeks ago..Got a shipping number after a week and its been a week now. When I go to track, it says this shipping number is not found. So have a think about it guys. So at this point, I have no clue about the whereabouts of my phone. Hate the suspense.

If GeekBuying members are reading , please improve your shipping updates guys. Make that experience better and you will have an all round great store.

It's up to the postal companies to update their tracking. GeekBuying have no control over that.

It can take up to 30 business days to arrive and the tracking will update soon. It's free for a reason.

Excellent customer service! It's free for a reason.

I just negotiate and post deals. I'm not listed as a Store Rep.

Well it's true. If you get free postage and don't pay for expedited shipping then of course you receive it 45 days after you purchased it.

          @Clear:
Best customer service these people could provide - It's free for a reason.

        • there're sellers have better service and fast shipping, but come at a cost, means higher price, go with them then…

      • Fair enough. BTW since its not shipped, could I modify my order and pick faster shipping or pick another phone with faster shipping? Thanks!

  • When I go to track, it says this shipping number is not found.

Because they haven't sent the items to the postal companies. This is how all drop shipping companies operated their business. They scanned their computer generated tracking numbers and sent you a copy then they put all their parcels into a giant container for up to 2 weeks. Once the container is full then they'll dispatch them all at once. That's why you need to wait up to 45 days to receive your order.

    • so, that's why it has free shipping
