can you download games or apps on the chromecast? dont think so

      • You can, on any smartphone/tablet/laptop/PC that serves as a remote as well. Why would you duplicate?
One phablet + (hybrid)laptop/pc + chromecast covers all you need.
Much simpler, smaller & OZ bargain approved.

        • +2

One Phablet+ laptop/Pc+ Chromecast is not smaller than an Apple TV. Apple TV is THE simpler, smaller and Oz bargain approved device. I have both these setup's at home, honestly the apple TV is a far superior device having said that Chromecast is for a different user targeted by low entry price. Amazon fire TV, Roku, Nvidia shield can be good for comparison.

    • Nothing retarded about it. It is a very easy to use reliable device. We have 2 of them in our house and in the market for a third.

What is the "best" option is a personal choice for individual circumstances. For me, the Apple TV suites my needs. For others it won't.

  • +1

Weren't older versions of AppleTV priced around the $99 mark?

    • Yes that was till they added storage and new remote etc.

  • +1

If this is a deal, shouldn't the iPhone 7 Plus (and every other Apple product for that matter) also be listed as a deal? I was contemplating if I should go ahead and get it from HN with $100 off Amex, since Kogan has been out of stock for a while (I'm after the 125Gb in black)…

  • This is the normal price!

    • -3

Well it's on front page now , ozbargain community has decided that it's a valid and great deal

      • No, 32 members of the ozbargain community have say it's a good deal. In the last 24 hours 15587 members logged in. 1 in 487.09375 members of the OzBargain community think this is a good deal.

  • +6

Should be listed as an example under the amex Harvey Norman post and not a separate one, otherwise there could be hundreds of individual deals listed for $300+ items

  • +1

I'm looking to use my $100 AMEX credit on an Android phone. Any good deals? I'm not familiar with Android as I've previously used an iPhone 4.

    • Many android flagships coming will make the older ones a bargain. Samsung is pushing the excellent Galaxy S7 with good offers (search OZbargain/Google). With Chromecast for ~$40+ you get a great package.
Android is much more flexible & easier to do things that are hard/impossible with iPho. 1st decide the budget, needs/features (SD card, water/dustproof, size, stylus, USB-C…)

  • This wouldn't be able to play half of my collection… HEVC x265

Or can it play that now?

    • -6

      Ok

    • when i play mine from my plex server they need to be transcoded. the 664 play directly fine. so I don't think so. bit of a bummer

      • I'll stick with my nVidia SHIELD TV. Personally I feel these Apple TV's are a rip, not in the same league.

  • +4

The AMEX post is the bargain, no reason to post this as a separate deal

  • +2

I bought the Apple TV 32gb through Kogan taking advantage of free shipping and Amex credit for $179. This is an Australian stock 64gb for $200 after cash back. This is to me is definitely a deal.

Apple TV4 + Getflix makes the product one of a kind. With streaming apps from across the world all on one screen, Apple TV is the best streaming device. As a longtime oz bargainer I do have chrome cast but there is no comparison between those two. ATV4 is a winner by a long way.

    • +1

IS this model Apple TV4 or TV5? Keep refering to it as NEW.. but if its Atv4 then its been out for over a year so it aint technically new at all.

  • +8

Negative vote as this is normal price, the bargain is the Amex offer and the deal should be merged into it.
Given that the $100 cashback deal from Amex last till 30/12/2016, there is a very good chance HN will discount this or other normal priced items further, giving you a better deal.
Due to massive volume of HN giftcards being sold, all it takes is for the two companies to communicate and this deal gets invalidated as per their T&C

    • +1

The obligation is one way - which means Amex has to police the giftcard purchase on the card itself, HN has no obliagtion nor the means to this. To start with, the offer is not universal, meaning not all Amex cards has the offer - hence HN has no way to report, reporting any Amex card purchase of HN gifcard to Amex, go ask the accounts or operation managers at HN what they think and you will get a better picture. 2ndly , from a pure financial gain prospective, neither Amex nor HN really cares about this - yes you can tell the un-used giftcard is a liability on HN's balance sheet, sure, but that's a liability no one really worries about ( hint - read the T & Cs of the gifcard )

  • +1

    No Band 28? No Deal.

  • -6

    Loving these negative vote comments

    • +3

Why? Maybe you could think about them and not post normal prices deals again?

    • +4

have you got your cashback yet?

      • I have, but i bought before this deal

  • +3

Thanks for posting this deal … not sure why some people are giving you a hard time

    • +1

      Thanks for posting this deal

      This isn't a "deal".

not sure why some people are giving you a hard time

Maybe because it's cheaper elsewhere and this isn't a deal?

      • Look who you're talking to lol … 😂😂😂

  • Work online?
Has anyone got the Amex cash back before from buying Apple at HVN?

    • Yeah I'd like to know too, particular with the current promo.

  • Cool promo but Apple TV is such a useless product

  • I have an Amex ANZ Black card - does that count as an Amex card and qualify for the cashback? Or does it have to be a card issued directly by Amex?

    • +1

It'll suffice. Sign up on Amex connect and if it doesn't appear in your offers, look for the manual sign up link, usually provided by forumninja in the OP of the deal.
You need to actually sign up for the cashback; can't just go shopping there and expect the rebate to be awarded.

  • Gotta agree that this post should be removed.

EC, should we expect you to post about the iPhone 7 too? $100 discount in Australian stock is a great deal.

  • RRP is not a bargain, sorry bud.

    • -7

      Thanks for your feedback champ

  • Is a amex through nab still amex? Or do u need a specific amex card?

    • Refer reply from ts13 above.
      I quote:
"Sign up on Amex connect and if it doesn't appear in your offers, look for the manual sign up link, usually provided by forumninja in the OP of the deal.

I just signed up using my ANZ Amex Black card and it worked for me so you should be good with your NAB card.

  • It may and may not work

Every time I see the Apple TV on sale I wanna get one but then I tell my self WTF for, to watch YouTube, Plex etc

My Xbox and PlayStation do this

  • I pay $1 tips?

  • Thanks OP, didnt even consider this for the AMEX offer, was about to buy another aTV for my parents and $200 is a great price, I think I paid around $240 for mine

  • -1

Is this a targeted deal? Not everyone has AMEX.

    :D :D hehehe

    Let's add to the fuel..

But nice deal if I was interested in apple tv

  • +1

I will wait and see if the $100 is rebated as the offer is running with HN till 31/12 .

  • +1

Should we post a deal for everything that's eligible for the amex credit on the HN website, which is everything (combined items like op or not)?

As pointed out earlier, Apple tv nor even on sale.

    • +2

happens with all the ebay promos. I once had a landing page full of cheer20 deals.

  • +2

Normal RRP Price + piggybacking another deal to make it look like a bargain. AMEX post is the real deal

  • +2

If people want to buy an Apple TV I am sure they will find this post useful, despite bearing the normal RRP price tag.

This deal is no different to the Ebay 20% off deals. Yes the listing price for a particular item is the same or slightly higher than non-participating store listings. But with the coupon buyer will definitely benefit.

  • -3

    cheaper else where

    • +2

      where?

    • +3

Where? I just grabbed one because $200 is a good deal IMO but would definitely grab another if theres something sub $200 for this??

  • -8

Look at all the cry babies that don't have an Amex. If you don't have an Amex, you aren't an OzBargainer.

I'm gonna start negging all those playstation plus deals coz I'm a cry baby that doesn't have playstation plus. I'm also going to neg deals with coupon codes that aren't meant to be public because I'm an ethical cry baby.

    • +5

If op was a store rep, his childish attitude would've gained him more neg votes, even if it was a deal

      • What if the op was a rapper!? What if the OP was a Tuna farmer? I love the what if game

        • I'm sure you understand what point I am making, but you decided to take the crybaby childish route my 6yo cousin takes. That's fine.

What if a bag of rocks could talk :o

        • @Ughhh:

What if my 6 year old cousin went to school with your 6 year old cousin and they like threw rocks at each other at lunch time?!

        • @jenkemjunkie:

I'm sure you know the answer, perhaps you could share your experience? Is that when all the crazy unrelated 'what ifs' came around? ;)

Anyway, back to topic and to spell it out, it's well known here that store reps are more likely to get a beating than a user.

        • @Ughhh:

sure thing, I'll share the experience with you over a bottle of jenkem!!

  • +1

Thanks for the idea EC! Our local HN have a family and friends night tonight and my wife and I were struggling to think of stuff we wanted to buy!

  • +3

Why would ozbargain promote an act that is against terms and conditions?

    • +2

cause this is OzBargain not OzEthics

  • +1

this is quite a polarizing deal post. :)

  • +2

Even Andrew O'Keefe knows this is no deal.

  • +1

This post is going to be part of ozbargain folklore lol

  • +4

Thanks for reminding me HN sells Apple TV. One more use of the $100 credit.

  • +4
    • +1

      cry

    • +5

I think you are comparing apples with oranges

    • +1

People have always been selective about negging deals. I've only seen 1 dude constantly negs deals from a business and they have about 8 known domains and I swear he downvotes every deal he sees from them. I wouldn't be surprised if he has his comment copied and pasted lol

      • +1

was this the user who kept negging uniquemobile's deals with the exact same neg comment?
So much so that ppl eventually got tired of it?

      • Could be 🤔

  • +1

I think anything over $300 in HN is good deal after Amex rebate. Just split payments in store. And get as many Amex cards as you can.

    • 100 amex's will do.

      $100 * 100 = $10,000 Free!!!!

    • The store reps possibly may not allow multiple transactions. Anyone have experience?

      • -1

They don't care , done it on previous deals . No split payment = no sale and furthermore they do not want to loose a sale

  • So..

Has anyone used the CURRENT Amex HN $100 cash back promo on Apple products and got a refund? Hoping to buy two iPhone 7s and it'll be nice to get some money off the purchase.

    Thanks!

  • I can confirm I have received the $100 AMEX Refund to my bank account after purchasing an Apple TV 4th Gen 64GB (+ OralB Toothbrush head)
I ordered on Wednesday the 2nd, order was ready for pickup via HN Click and Collect on Thursday morning. The refund appeared in my bank account around midday Thursday. I didn't collect the items until Friday afternoon.

  • Definitely works!

Registered 8 AMEX's (incl supps) and bought two iPhone 7s this weekend. $800 credit received this morning!

    =)

    • How could you get $800 in credit for 2 iphone 7'? Enlighten me pls ..

      • Split the $2500 into 8 separate payments, making sure each was more than $300. Refunded $100 to each of my 8 cards after 3 days.

        • Lucky you. I checked at Qv store they said no for splitting payment on Amex card.

        • @malaykiri26: yeah I did it at two separate stores. But I guess the stores are catching on as more people are doing it. Ah well..
