Can we replace the HDD with a SSD down the line if we want?

    • Yes, and very easy done. Instead of taking off the full back cover, you only need to take a small cover off to access the HDD. Youtube will help.

      • +1

this is the e470, you have to take the whole cover off and its not that simple to take out the hdd

        • I stand corrected. Sorry for the false information

        • +1

after you take off the back cover, there is a ribbon go through the top of the hdd and there is a heat protective covering glued to the hdd too. It can be done, just needs to be done carefully. Someone broke the ribbon holder from the last deal

        • +5

          @hmtk: Page 79 of https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e470_e470c_e4… describes how to remove/replace the hdd - doesn't sound too difficult…

        • +2

          @psmedley:
its not difficult, people are just really careless with these things so if you dont know what you are doing, dont do it :)

    • -1

I wonder does it have a M.2 slot for adding an SSD and keeping the existing drive.

    • +1

Does anyone know if all SSD fits in a laptop casing?

    • +1

Unfortunately its not easy. The HDD has heat protection cover which is stuck to a data cable. Its hard to remove cable from the heat protection cover without tearing. I thought if we tear the cover warranty may be void so in the end I did not replace with SSD.

  • +2

that's an awesome price, thanks TA, with CR and if you are going OS, the FHD one comes down to $590 which is kick-ass :D

    • Are you saying you can go without an operating system? Because I don't seem to have the option (only Windows 10 Home or Pro)

      • +2

        my bad, OS=overseas

        • +2

Not your bad mate, it was pretty obvious to start with.

        • @PinzVidz:

Pretty funny response tbh from scix (but agreed. Was pretty obvious lol)

        • +4

          @illumination:

I think my optimism/delusion got the better of me. The no operating system option feels like something that should be offered, but it is relatively uncommon.

    • Word of warning to buyers, Lenovo have been changing their sales pretty regularly, I got caught out with an earlier sale last week by'sleeping on it' - if you want it, go get it.

  • +2

Any good deals on a desktop or integrated?

  • +2

Any advantage switching the 4G+4G RAM for the 8G stick ($0 to change)? I'm assuming it gives you the advantage of a spare slot for another 8G stick?

As per OP, upgrading to the Full HD screen (1920x1080) with no other config changes is $708 when code added. $980 without code. Great post TA. +1

    • yup, you can get another 8GB stick and shove it in, they are like 60 bucks now I think :)

      • Thanks. Just saw on the specs that it supports upto 32GB ram.

  • Bought one on the last deal. Good bargain

  • -8

    14.0 FHD (1920x1080) IPS Non-Touch .
Non- touch is a deal breaker for me. Price is great though, just doesn't fits my requirement.

    • +6

You can't have your cake and eat it.

    • +6

Not sure why you'd want touch on a business laptop like this - it's not like it has tablet/tent mode.

      • +2

Good point. this is a business laptop, should have considered it.

  • is this 7th gen i5 dual core as well?

    • +1
      • Thanks.

If that's the case wouldn't it be wiser to wait for an older model with say an i5 6th which i assume is a quad core?

        • +3

most mobile parts are ULV processors, would be dual core regardless of generation.

        • I don't know of any quad core mobile i5, yet. Look for a q in the cpu model number to indicate a quad core mobile cpu.

        • @klumsybot: My mistake, sorry. There are a slim number of i5-6####Q processors around, but they are rare.

  • +5

Don't need a new laptop but this is very tempting.

    • Same here, just bought a tablet from the other deal, now very tempted by this, ugh!!!

    • +2

Same here. I have a 6 year old Acer and it's still okay (although a bit slow to start up).

In all honesty I only use it now when I need to type out an extended email (too tiring for my thumbs on a smart phone) or to watch movies and the occasional game (think Civ4/5)….even though this sounds like a great deal I can't justify the upgrade when I don't REALLY need it :)

  • But some how I still don't have the cashreward cash back yet. That's nearly 4 weeks ago. Does it normally take that long? Any one having the same experience?? Thanks

    • I bought a thinkpad 13 in May 16.
Appeared in cashrewards transactions in a few days or a week.
Took about 3-4 months to get the cash.

  • does it come with an international warranty as well?

    • All Thinkpads should be covered by Lenovo's International Warranty Service. That's the main reason I got one from a few months back. I was able to avail of their service in Manila a couple of weeks ago. They use third party authorised service centres but they're quick to respond. Only took a day to fix since it didn't need part replacement.

      • Thank you, mate.

  • would this be good for a year 12er in 2017?
    or too heavy?

    • +2

      It's only 1.9kg.

Is your year 12er a dude?

      • yup.
and would swapping to SSD void any warranty in inactivate windows (if done aftermarket not as part of checkout)?

        • +5

Windows 10 ties to the motherboard, so you'll be able to put in an SSD, perform a fresh reinstall of the operating system, and it should activate automatically.

In terms of warranty, keep original HDD and if you ever need to return it or have it repaired, just switch it back over.

    • -1

well it depends what he needs it for I mean if hes only using it for word docs then just get one of those Asus EEEbooks I have one the battery life is phenomenal lasts more than 12 hours. I know people will say it lags a bit when web browsing but its fine I do 2 years of law school on that little dingy.

  • would this be for gaming?

    • +4

      Very light gaming, yes.

    • I use my one only for gaming lol.

I play Wow and Heroes of the Storm at consistent 60fps.

  • +1

    TA, great deal.
Can I order and pay, but request delayed delivery?
Going OS in early Jan, so ideally want to keep receipt within 60 days of travelling.

    • +2

you want delayed invoice/receipt, not delayed delivery.

      • Yes thanks.. It is from date of purchase.

        • If it helps, invoice date would be when it's shipped, not date or order/purchase. In my case, it was about a week or so from when I ordered.

    • not worth the hassle for $50.
      just buy & use.

      • +8

        This is OZB. …. $50 is >$50

Can still use it prior to travelling, don't even need the original packaging.

    • out of curiosity, are you considering to bring back the laptop? so how does this work? can you bring the laptop back once you claimed GST?

      thanks

      • +2

        From the border.gov website:

Bringing goods back into Australia for which you have already received a TRS refund.

If you are aged 18 years or over, you can bring up to AUD 900 worth of goods into Australia duty-free, or AUD 450 if you are younger than 18. Families travelling together can pool this allowance (a couple with one child can bring in a total of AUD 900 + AUD 900 + AUD 450 = AUD 2250 worth of goods into Australia without paying duty or GST). This is called your passenger concession.
If the total value of the goods you are bringing into Australia is greater than your passenger concession, including goods for which you have previously claimed a tax refund under TRS and any purchased overseas:
you must declare all of these goods
you will need to repay the GST refund back on the goods you claimed under the TRS
duty and GST will apply to all items purchased, not just goods over the limit of your passenger concession.
Penalties can apply if you don’t declare that you have goods in excess of your passenger concession.

        • just what i am looking for… TQ

      • I brought back a $3000 camera. No hassles.
        Wife, myself and three kids.

        • did you declare and ask, or just walk through and didn't declare anything?

        • @matt-ozb:
          I claimed trs first :)
on the way back I declared some cigars and grog I had. Nothing else. It was under the limit for a family of 5. so didn't think I had to declare anything.

  • -1

Will it last two years plus?

    • Definitely.

      • Thanks. Bought. Cheers.

        • I don't think it will. Quick! Cancel your order before they deliver!

(I'm kidding, but how do you expect someone to answer that question…?)

  • Will I still have warranty if I manually downgrade to windows 7 (my father needs this for some very specific applications)?

    • -2

Of course. You could always just factory reset it.

    • +1

I it when it was on sale a few weeks ago. Tried to downgrade doing fresh install, a lot of the components don't have drivers for win 7. The only one I found was a wifi driver (had to go via hardware IDs). AFter finding that one, I decided it wasnt worth it and went back to clean win 10

      • +2

This may be the reason for the lack of Win 7/8 driver support. Both Intel Kaby Lake and AMD Zen are officially supported only by Windows 10.

      • meant to be i5, not i7!

        • Thanks..was ready to pull the trigger on this until I read your post…I see the E460 (with the 6th gen i5) has Windows 7 drivers available..guess I'll wait for a good sale on that.

        • @pyr0maniac: I wouldn't be surprised if the hardware is the same - like the wifi card and bluetooth - those drivers might work. But who knows!

    • Install Windows 7 in a virtual machine?

      • Already tried that on another laptop..didn't work out.

    • Afaik 7th gen Intels won't support win 7 or 8 or 8.1

  • Won't get better specs than this at that price, good work machine with that 7th gen processor.

  • think i'll finally have to cave on this one, i've skipped on all the others, but this sounds dirt cheap for the specs!

  • Would LOVE a similar deal in the E570 config :) Still great work!

    • Agreed. A deal like this for E570 would be attractive.

    • "For those that want the new ThinkPad E570:

      Here is the whirlpool special.

      E570 – 7th gen: i7-7500Ue / 8GBx / 1TB / 5400rpm / AMD HD 2GB / 15.6" FHD IPS NT / NW / / Win10 Home 64

      List price: $1349
      Discount: $450
      After ecoupon sale price: $899.

I think there is 7.5% cashback from cashrewards right now."

      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2572577&… has the coupon.

      • The E570 code is not on CR. Lenovo may decline cashback.

      • Other than specs what's the difference between this and the e470?

        Different build quality?

Also is this with the graphics card significantly better than the integrated on the 7th gen?

        • Main difference I can see is 14" vs 15.6".

  • Delivery in 6-9 business and I am travelling next wednesday. Would have been an ideal buy but it wont be delivered in time :(

  • Is there a similar deal in 15inch model?

  • I am looking to get this with the 1080 screen and 256gb hdd.
The price is $858 which Ill then claim on tax (using for work).
    Plus ~$64 back from cashback.

Is it better to do it that way or pay less then put in the sdd separately (I dont think I can claim the sdd on its own on tax).

    • +1

I'd just get the FHD screen upgrade, then wait for a cheap SSD deal and chuck that in yourself

  • Is it a better deal than the $1299 T460s deal couple of weeks ago?

    • Completely different price range. So not comparable.

  • This model does not include the 940mx GPU?
I'm a little lost its on the product page but i cant find it on the configuration?

  • Damn if only this came a week later! Need that TRS Discount!

    • You'll get the invoice when it's shipped

      • Yes but it will go off the processed date. That invoice needs to be within 60 days of leaving so theres no guarantee that this will come after the 14th of November for me :(

Guess ill just wait for the next deal! its xmas soon so there will probably be another sale before then!

    • When you bring it back, don't customs have a record that you've bought it here and gotten a refund?
