  • has anyone found any software tools from Toshiba to manage these like Samsung's Magician software?

  • interested, but don't know much about the different brands/types/quality. I'd bought the Samsung EVO 850 from a deal last month ($180) but it had a CRC error so they refunded instead of replacing :( . So in the market again.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do these perform in the SSD scale of things in terms of speed and reliability?
Thinking of putting this in an old MacBook Pro.

    • Low end.
BUT, a low end SSD from 2016 is a hundred times faster than an old HDD and still as fast if not faster than old SSDs, plus you get a lot of space for your money.

      • Toshiba Dynastores have been out since this time last year though. Despite this, there is still a lack of reviews

        • They would be fine. I do tend to like higher performance ssds and many of mine live out there days in an ssd case.

But hell, sub $80 for a 240gb ssd you expect low end stuff… go buy a samsung 850/950 if you want speed and quality.

  • try looking in here and comparing against a different model

you beat me to it Storm

  • Looks like TLC drives are not the way to go, according to this PC world review of a different model (but also TLC) Toshiba SSD.
Marked speed drop off on large file writes, down to hard drive speeds.

    • there is the 1st gen tlc (samsung 7xx series) and the newer 3d TLC eg samsung 850. most manufacturers are moving to 3D as they can get more storage on the same die size and better durability. even crucial now make 3D tlc ssd drives. for speed it depends on the controller chip and the size of the drive ….. bigger drives are usually faster due to bus width even from the same manufacturer so a crucial mx200 in 500gb is faster than a 256 gb ……quote a few variables and unless you have a new gen PC (not lap top) you won't notice a difference, hence many reviews focus on $ per gb …… or you tapping into the top end of the market eg samsung 950 pro, pci, etc and then money isn't an issue as you buying performance.

  • any one point to official software to perform trim and specs check for this thing?

    • most drives do the trim automatically now via their firmware.

  • I did not see the feature in the Toshiba site for the thing, trim support used to be a feature, tlc really need trim, I need these drives to install win 7 on, doesn't have the win 8 level trim support, hence a second party software would be good
