12 free movie download with the Z5 Premium:

:) got mine down to $530 after last $599 Ebay Deal & TRS, not a bad price for this handset & no over heating issues as reported on reviews :)

  • No Xperia XZ lovin' ? :( That said I want the 64GB o/S variant rather than the 32GB sold locally.

  • how is the Sony Xperia Z5 compare to the iPhone 7 ? looking to get an upgrade this month

      • lol ok

      • +5

Yeah the iPhone battery would give out first and the Xperia is nicer to look at. Good analogy that

      • Is the obvious answer that the Sony is way better?

    • +3

Z5 is older generation now. Xperia XZ would be the competitor to the fruity produce.

    • +1

Can't comment directly on the iphone, but I got a Z5 recently in preference to an X series Sony, and I regret nothing. It is much nicer than my previous phone (HTC One M8).

People will tell you stuff about RAM, processors etc not being 100% cutting edge but the bottom line is that there is no aspect of using it where I think "gee, I wish the processor was 200MHz faster". On the other hand, it's waterproof, looks really nice, has a very nice screen, has a really nice camera (better in daylight, but they all are), and has minimal crapware installed on it.

Also, I easily get 2+ days charge out of it if I'm using it mostly for calls and texting, around 2 days if I do a bit of web browsing etc.

Sony Xperia Z5 compare to the iPhone 7

Honestly I think you should be asking Z5 Premium compared to iPhone 7.

The reason is it is truely gobsmackingly good looking.

When I read reviews I read "you will be surprised by how amazing this devic looks even though people already said you will be surprised" and that is what happened. When you peel off the protective plastic it's almost shockingly shiny lel - think mirror.

Same phone as Z5 other than looks though if you ignore the 4K screen (I think - don't rely on that).

  • does the z5 premium come with MDR-NC31EM headphones in the box?

    • No it doesn't, I got these from catch of the day for $1 during birthday bash sale..

      • thanks. are they any good? am i going to be missing out for not having them?

        • +3

Tell you the truth I haven't opened them yet (will try this weekend) using another set I bought on OzB like the other 20 headphones/sets, daym deals! Haven't even got to the BOSE QC35's yet :s

        • +1

@robzta: lol then i will be waiting for your review. you sound like a audiophile enthusiast 😄

        • You won't miss much other than that it's noise cancelling, which does reduce ambient noise levels, I won't say it's as good as a Bose QC, but it does help a bit compared to normal headphones. But as a headphone, it isn't any better than anything in its price range, i.e. average sound quality. Also it has a 5 pole connector, which can mean that some devices won't work with it.

        • +1

@robzta: you should do a wiki on all the products you bought!

        • +1

@mbck: OzB breaks the bank balance, bet you i'm not the only one lol..

        • tl;dr: IMO, you're not missing anything.

I have a set of these as well as the MDR-NC750 a couple of months ago. The NC works with my Xperia Z3.

In terms of music/audio quality, both are really disappointing to me.
They both sound similar. Small sound stage, muddy.

The noise cancellation works okay for the work air-conditioner, but nothing to write home about. Almost useless for traffic going past (vs my Parrot Zik headphones, which block everything out).

Frankly, I don't know why either headset got such great reviews.
I'm going to try them out on my next flight just out of curiosity, then sell them.

          @Smellysocks:

Puts head in guillotine - No audiophile uses bose.

          They arent bad, just overrpriced.

        • @idonotknowwhy: @robzta: @assailantsky: cheers fellas, and yeah ozb is now short for ozBROKE for me.

        • @Smellysocks: Sorry about the delay, got busy with a few things and here are my two cents for the Sony earbuds music listening on these is good, they’re not muddy and they’re fairly crisp not as crisp as Bose but not as heavily priced as well. I tested these out this morning on the train while listening to some Podcasts and I couldn’t hear a thing apart from my podcast which is great. You have three modes with the in built noise cancellation with the Z series: office, bus/train, airplane, nice equalizer setting as well. The buds are quiet loud. Play & pause button would have been nice, but for the price these are available, great set of earbuds to have with the Z series :)

  • The green one looks really good but it's not available in Australia.

    • there are greens in AU stock

  • Anyone regret buying the Premium over the Standard Z5?

    • Nope, no regrets.. :)

    • Nope.

  • +2

    How abput the z5 compact?

  • many on Sony site commented that the lag, camera and battery are all sub standard.
plus the way they handled the screen crack as way worse than Note 7, I'll keep away from Sony

    • +3

      I have a Z5 and:

      • there is literally no lag

      • the camera is very good

      • the battery comfortably gets through two days of normal use

      Can't comment on the Z5P.

    • +1

I've dropped my Z5 Compact on hard surface (asphalt) from over 1 metre and it's as good as new.

The camera was rated as the best on any phone by DxOMark just a year ago - how "sub standard" can it be?

The software updates have been great and frequent, and I don't experience any lag. It does get warm sometimes but I'm not finding it an issue.

The biggest selling point for me at the time was having a compact phone with flagship specs. The newer Sony models have only been incremental improvements but I think that's the case for all manufacturers these days.

The one issue I have had is a failure of the microUSB charging port just before the 12 month warranty ran out. It's currently being repaired through Quality Deals (qd_au) - keeping my figures crossed.

    • I had a Sony Xperia (older gen) and hated it after they pushed through an update that made everything slow and unresponsive. I wouldn't touch one again.

    • No lag, don't use camera much so I can't say but reviews seem to like it though it's not the best anymore. I got two days battery comfortably after tweaking I often have 140 hours left using half screen brightness.

Xperia devices usually have excellent battery life.

    • +1

I have had one for a while now.
Battery great, never noticed lag, camera is really good (except I scratched the coating on the lens)

  • Rep, do you have the dual sim version of any of these phones?

    • +1

Dual Sim means not Australian stock

  • Yes dual sim please

  • I got the green z5 dual sim for 4 months now, non-AU stock though. Awesome phone! Very stylish compared to my previous LG G3.

Doesn't run as hot as my wife's older z1, a bit warm but not hot.

Only time it goes to uncomfortable hot is when I'm screen casting to my chromecast and playing a movie over VLC.

  • Z2's been on sale, Z3's been on sale, Z5's been on sale, but The Z4 stays on its (absurd) premium price.

    • Not sure why you're comparing a tablet with phones…

      • Not comparing, I just keep an eye out waiting for an ozbargain post saying Z4….

    • The z3+ is in fact z4 I heard.

  • Any chance of similar discounts on other colour variants? Gold is a bit to flashy for me haha

  • +1

    this or s7?

    • +3

I have both. S7 is notably faster with about 50% higher benchmark score

      • Thank you sir, with response tome being my biggest concern it looks like I will order an S7 tomorrow then. Have spent the day umming and arring, googling the 3 phones (s7, z5, z5p) trying to decide which.

  • +1

    I have the Z5P - it is a great phone…. here are my 2c:

    • whilst the battery life is ok for making / receiving calls… if the screen is being used actively, the battery DOES drain rather quickly (courtesy of the 4k screen no doubt). Though I usually manage to get through a day on a charge on moderate app / browsing use.
    • heat - mine can get somewhat warm when playing a game… however not unreasonably so IMO
    • The 4k screen really is amazing to look at… but then again… how often I use an app / play a game that shows it off? Not that often.

I'm still very happy with my phone overall…. but given the choice, I'd probably pay a little more for the S7

  • Is the second year warranty on local stock offered by Mobiciti or the manufacturer? If manufacturer, where do they say that?

  • I have an s6 edge but hate the crappy battery life and the edge screen. I have always been a Sony fan (vaios and headphones). Anyone recommend the premium black over my current samsung?

    • +1

Its better than S6 but not as fast as S7

  • Dual sim version is cheaper here but only 1 year local insurance:

    https://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/sonxperiaz5predualblk-f…

  • People who bought this, any good recommended case?
I bought a silicon one from ebay, it's crap.
