I own this phone. At this price its an absolute bargain. Note its 4g/3g dual sim so will work post 2g turn off

    • Slightly off topic here, but I have the Lenovo Vibe P1 dual sim which is 4g/3g dual sim as well but with a catch. The Sim with Data will run on 4G/3G while the other sim will run on 2G.

You can switch it around, but effectively its a single sim phone when 2G gets turned off. At certain location where there are no more 2G, when calls come in I cant hear or speak to the other party, so will have to switch data and wait like 30-60secs for the network to be active and call back.

Do you have this issue with the ZUK Z2 or have they fixed this?

      • The definition of a 4g/3g phone is that the second sim will be on 3g even though the first sim is on 4g (or 3g). Its not so much an issue, just an evolution of the dual sim technology. More dual sim phones now coming on the market have this feature

        • Thanks for confirming this. They probably fix the Zuk Z2 which was release June 2016. My old Lenovo S920 also have the same issue. P1 was release Oct 2015 and I got the 3gb version with Chinese ROM around Nov last year and it have the same problem. My friend got then 2gb version early 2016 with the ROW rom and also the same problem. I might get the new P2 later.

  • Never bought from these guys so can anyone advise if i buy this phone what sort of eta I'm looking at?

    • +3

I bought mine last week from them. They didn't ship it until a week later and for my order ETA is before the end of this month.

  • Can someone please advise what the camera is like too?

  • +4

Camera is ok. I would say only slightly worse than the xioami mi5, but better than the redmi note 3. Low light isnt great though when compared to other flagships

Form factor is great, battery well above average, great nice, finger print sensor works well

Note also there is no gorilla glass and mine came from gearbest with malware installed. Link provided by OP can resolve this but its quite fiddly

To emphasise, at this price, an absolute bargain. I'm tempted to buy a back up!

Samsung camera sensor. Even Samsung use Sony sensor

      • Wtf? Even Samsung used Sony sensor? Where did you get that info from? Why would Samsung used competitor's sensors on their products? Got any informations to back up your claims?

        • +1

samsung flagships use the sony IMX sensors which are the best on the market

iphones, nexus and pixel devices all use the same

IMX218 and a few other variants are the most popular ones

        • @furythree:

Ahh OK, I didn't know that. New things to learn everyday..

        • +2

Have you ever heard that Apple used Samsung chipset for their iPhones?

        • @divious:

Well yeah but Apple does not produced Cameras or any electronics products but Samsung do.

        • Not all Samsungs use Sony's sensors. Some still use their own ISOCELL (which is what this is).

        • @HandsomeMonkey: Samsung Group is a massive company that has large number of Samsung companies underneath it. They do compete against outside companies when it comes to parts (i.e. Snapdragon, LCD display from JDI etc etc). Besides, companies tend to like diversifying their sources, risk management and it gives them an edge in price negotiations. Sometimes, it's because a single company cannot handle the capacity required (i.e. TSMC couldn't produce all of the A9, hence why Samsung also was a producer of A9).

Samsung uses IMX sensors as well as their ISOCELL sensors (Galaxy S6 for example could have either one of them).

        • @bchliu: that is true. but most of the time you get the imx sensors in the flagships. occaisionally the flagships would be a lottery.

imx tend to be better anyway

        • @furythree: The NOTE4 and S6 was a 50-50 mix at the time between them and the Sony Sensors won out on quality. They had to mix because of the Exmor shortage from Sony at the time (could not keep up demand) and had to use their own.

      • Many Canon cameras also use Sony sensors. Silicon fabs and quality production are costly.

Apple uses many Samsung chips in their iPhone, too.

        • nikon do and fuji are starting to

        • Most of the iphones uses Sony Sensors. They only resorted to Samsung ISOCELL during the shortage

    • Thanks mate. I just missed the mi5 presale deal and didn't wanna spend more so grabbed one of these :)

    • What malware did you have installed?

      • Good question. Malware, or bloatware/Chinese apps

        • Can I get some more information on this Malware specifically?

I was going to go through the stickied post here —> http://zukfans.eu/community/threads/howto-flash-a-stock-zui-…

But the first download contains Malware so I'm a bit hesitant.

Though if I know or have a list of what the culprits are I can just root the device myself, manually remove the offending applications and then be on my merry way.

Though if it's backed into the OS then I'll have to flash some other ROM.

  • Deal ends on the 11th of November or until 500 phones are sold. Source

  • how does it compare with xiaomi note 4) i like the form factor of the N4

  • Is this phone as great a deal if you have no idea what a rom is? Can I just put my sim in and away we go like Sony/Samsung and the like?

    • probs go for xiaomi instead

    • +3

I don't recommend this phone if you're not comfortable with rooting your phone or installing a rom by yourself as this phone comes with malware. It's not very hard though, there are guides out there that lay everything out for you and you just have to follow them. Otherwise, this phone is a steal for specs at this price.

5" Redmi 4 is rumored for release 4-Nov. Worth checking it's specs and price for comparison: http://www.gizchina.com/2016/11/02/xiaomi-redmi-4-specificat…

  • Any other good deals on bang good while im here?

Can I put Cyanogenmod on it or am I restricted to the ROM posted in the original link?

    • +1

Mokee Open source ROM can be installed..

    • I wondered about this too. The predecessor, the Z1, had official Cyanogen OS support but seems to be stuck at 12.1

I think the partnership ended as there's no CM build for the Z2, or at least on the cyanogenmod download page.

  • Aww damn I just bought a LeEco Le Max2 for 289$ last week. Was looking at the Zuk Z2 for a while. Should get this one also!!

Cheap but bad screen and bad camera, not so balanced. Maybe system is not good as well according to Lenovo's character… I am Chinese, I know…haha

    • Is Lenovo's reputation that bad in China? A few Chinese friends asked me to recommend laptops, and when I suggested Lenovo, many returned me with disgust.

      • One thing is they sell same thinkpad laptop with much higher price in China than in US, makes people really disgusting.

  • Pretty phone though. I love block looking phones. I would pay more for a better block like phone. Does anyone know any?

  • Whats with this rom thing ? I like the phone but dont wanna get into hassle of installing firmware or so… can anyone please explain ?

    • if you dont want to muck around with roms/firmware then best to stay away from chinadroids and some grey imports :)

  • This mobile comes with tampered english rom which is bit dodgy and you need to install indian rom to get use of it.

    ROTFLMAO. How professional.

For $268.34 including EMS shipping, how could you not buy it? You're basically losing money if you don't haha. Going to have a go at using QPST to add band 28.

    • good luk, tell us how that goes. been interested, but too chicken myself (different phone)

    • There is no current solution to unlock the bands on the S820 so unless you are a Linux engineer you not unlocking anything :-P

      • Hmmm, seems they haven't been able to unlock it on the Mi5, I can't see much else though. I'm going to try anyway. Also I actually am an electronics engineer but I don't think that will be any use here.

        • When I saw marachi post that, I figured somebody would reply they were a Linux engineer ;-)

There is a huge overlap between XDA hackers (well, the people posting actual info, not help me) and the embedded Linux and Android dev people.

      • -1

Linux engineer? S820? Those have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with band support.
The hardware (RF/antenna) needs to support the band so the band has to be locked out purely in software to begin with.
We probably need newer QPST etc for unlocking if this were the case.

        • Actually it has everything to do with it, the bands have been unlocked it's just that they are not been activated so it has to do with the Linux kernel and it's dependancies, you need to have an understanding of how Linux interfaces with hardware

          But whatever you say :-P

        • @marchi:
YOU need to have a understanding of how Linux works. QPST interfaces with MDSS protocol which is a propitiatory Qualcomm protocol. It has NOTHING to do with Linux. It also works on Windows Phone (as long as they have DM serial mode).
Band unlocking rewrites NVRAM used by the BP part, Linux (or Windows) runs on AP. Linux, or Android actually, serves only as an emulator/bridge to communicate with BP.

You have ABSOLUTELY no idea how phone works yet you claim I need to have an understanding.

Guys, check your orders. Mine was updated to "back order" and live chat said they were receiving stock in 3-4 weeks. Sick of these sites lying about their stock levels just to get orders.

    • Mine was marked as backordered after I ordered but it just shipped. Stock must have come in today.

      • Don't tell me! I just cancelled my order.

Ah, well, probably a good thing. Ozbargain leads to too many impulse buys.

    • My order has been on back order twice and when pressed, they said next stock should be in 18 Nov. Time will tell.

  • Ordered. So where do I find the ROM file I need to replace?

  • none of the coupons work, anyone got any new ones?

  • +3

Got mine today. Initial impressions are very good. This thing is crazy fast in general usage and internet browsing. It's extremely slippery, it's like the nexus 4 where you can't put it on flat surfaces because it slides off. Build quality is OK, better than I expected, feels solid and doesn't creak, pre-applied screen protector is pretty shoddy. Camera is poor at best, but it might just be because of the App, using Snap Camera the photos were noticeably better. Audio from the loudspeaker is surprisingly nice but not very loud. Headphones OK but not amazing, seems very bass heavy but haven't played with EQ yet.

    Any questions let me know.

$190 AUD but when i go to buy it, it comes up as $270… I really hate these sites. How hard is it to not be shit?

  • Mine was delivered in 4 weeks. Disappointed that TeamViewer QuickSupport appears to be view only despite Lenovo being listed as a supported. Does anyone know whether/how to get full remote control of the phone? I am hesitant/inexperience to try different ROMs to address this big shortcoming for me. My old Samsung Galaxy S5 allows it.
