Metal prints are on sale too. Can you please add them as well? :)

    • +1

      sure! :)

      • +1

Does anyone know what the quality of the metal prints is like? There's a lot of whinging about BigW photos but I'd imagine most of it is by people who don't bother preparing their photos for print at all. I've used Print2Metal in the past and their quality is excellent.

I've only used their canvas service and have never had a problem but I suspect that what you are saying is correct about people uploading poor photos and not being happy with the result.

People that have NFI should go to someone who can tweak the photos but they'll complain about paying double the price.

        • @Maverick-au:

Mind if I ask what NFI is?

        • +19

@icecream: you have NFI what it means?

        • @muncan:

          What does NFI stands for?

        • +3

          @icecream: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

        • +2

          no #### idea

        • @James987:

Thanks. Hahahahaha, I don't say it so didn't think that way.

Price is same as the offerings on scoopon/ groupon regularly for that size (i have gotten 2). Are these different or better in some way?

  • +1

Looks like its just rectangle canvas, panoramic canvas and metal prints.

Note that some of the products are better than half price. So pick the best value.
    I.e. 40x60 cm canvas is $39 (normally $129) while a 40x50 cm canvas is $44.50 (normally $89).

    • +1

129 for 39 where do you see this i finding the price is different?

  • +5

I was a semi pro photographer and have printed and sold dozens and dozens of these (20x40) and the quality of the printing, frame and stretching are pretty good for the money. Really good profit margins for me when grabbing them at this price.

If you get really close, you will see the texture of the canvas in some photos, but if standing back and looking, walking past etc, you won't notice it.
I've never had a single complaint and they were printed by the Fuji labs in Sydney if I remember correctly.

Have a few hanging in my house down in Melbourne that are a few years old and they still look good. They just need a dusting from time to time.

Edit - They get delivered to the store in really solid boxes and the item is wrapped to protect them in the box.

What resolution would be required for a good looking print at the 20x40 size?

      • +4

For home display, 100 ppi [pixel per inch] are more than enough.
So for a 20x40" prints thats 2000x4000 px or 8 mpx.

But make sure its a sharp , no micro shake image
[or if you are an artistic type, just ensure they are 8mpx :) ]

        • +1

          Thanks bnh. :)

Darn it - note to self: read OzBargain comments before placing an order!

    • Offtopic, but can you recommend a place to print large photos for framing? (Maybe poster-size?) Ie not these canvas things, I don't really like them.

Just after some nice wall pics (landscapes), nothing fancy.

Googling gives so many results, hard to decide the best value!

  • There doesn't seem to be any sale or discount signs and the prices are still full price even at check-out. Have I missed something?

    • Try turning off any ad-blockers / script blockers or white-listing the BigW site.
      (Worked for me)

  • +1

Is the deal expired as I see the normal price?

    • Clear cookies. Expires 16/11.

      • The price is still def listed as $229 and is even at check-out if you attempt to purchase one.

        • +1

No it isn't. The deal is definitely displaying correctly.

          I'm on Chrome, btw.

        • @blitz:
          Thanks mate..got it.

        • +2

@blitz: LOL, just realised that the AdBlock+/Ublock extensions were blocking the discount price and image from applying.

          Thanks.

  • 20 x 40" (50x100cm) Panoramic Canvas Print
    Price
    $229.00

    where's the special?

    • +2

Give the page ~10 seconds to display the sale price or try in an incognito window. The sale price is appearing for me…

  • If I find a picture online that I want printed on to canvas what do I have to think about? i.e. size, resolution etc? Can I just use any photo?

    • +1

you'll want a high resolution image….but from there it all comes down to 'it depends'. the bigger the canvas, the more pixels in the resolution you'll want. The further away you'll be standing from it, the less resolution you'll need (like if it's on a wall that you can't stand close to due to other furniture or whatever, compared to hallway where you could walk right up to it).

try 2000x3000 pixels or more and you should be fine…..? maybe. the editing software the website gives you for designing your print will throw a red warning if it thinks the resolution is too small, but i can't actually find what that threshold is written on the site anywhere.

I've always used photobookshop.com.au, which have 50x100cm canvas prints for $48 (including delivery).

    http://www.photobookshop.com.au/voucher

I can't comment on the difference in quality (I have never used big w for canvases), but the photobookshop ones seem fine to me and do the job very well.

    • +4

I have used both. I prefer Big W.

  • Is there any way to change the hanging orientation?

    • +2

You can change it before you start adding your photos. Choose vertical or horizontal orientation.

  • Awesome, one Christmas present sorted :)

  • Can I hang it vertically? any hook at the back?

    • +1

there's just a string staple-gunned to the wooden frame at the back. It connects both short edges for hanging landscape. you could easily staple gun your own string across one end of the long edges for hanging portrait.

  • +1

Their canvas prints are not bad for the price. Just remember that they allow a maximum of 4000 pixels on the longest axis for printing.

Their metal prints are pretty average tbh, colour reproduction is pretty average. You can easily see the pixels. I would only get the metal prints at 60% off, and if you can stand more than a few metres away from the print

  • Looks like the site is broken for me?
Tried 3 different browsers on 2 computers and after i click on shop now it goes to "BigW Photos loading" then hangs?
    Ozbargained?

No ad/popup blockers, even rebooted the router(Telstra Cable junk)

    • same here mate - also the app isn't working.
let me know if you have any luck

    • Yeah I'm getting spinning circles too… I got superfast NBN and it's just not working. Maybe Big W were getting smashed with orders and they don't want to honor the deal now so aren't letting any more of us order.

I can see the offer, but if I click on it, it opens a new tab and just sits there… sigh… oh well

  • +1

Am I blind, or is there no layout option to print to edge with more than 1 photo?

With any of the other layouts (such as 3 photos), not only can't you wrap alongside the edge, you can't even get the photos up to the edge at all without a big border. You can unlock photos and manually drag/size, but extremely hard to get even and you can't even type in size and/or position manually.

Am I missing an option somewhere?

  • +2

Does the preview look fuzzy no matter how high res a picture is used?

    • +1

I hope so, because mine did too.

    • Did you work this out? I just tried a few different options and the preview looked fuzzy each time: I'm no photo expert, and before I shell out $59 I'd like an indication what the final product might look like!

      • +1

I just ordered it anyway, I figure it's a bug but will report back when I get my print

        • Picked mine up today, not fuzzy. Quite happy with it

      • +5

I received mine, it isn't fuzzy like in the preview.

I would say for $59 it's ok, but for full price I wouldn't be happy. It just looks quite a bit duller than the actual photo, which really takes away from the life of the shot. I'm a bit worried about my second print I ordered, which is a darker waterfall shot.

        Here's the canvas - https://goo.gl/photos/xrn1zSkvaet5gcWt6

And what it should look like - https://www.instagram.com/p/BMgDQQZg__J/

Yeah the photo of the canvas isn't the best and it is a bit lighter than it looks in the photo, but it just isn't great.

        • Thanks very much for the info, really appreciate it! I think I'll get one, just make sure I use a really good brighter pic :)

        • To be fair to BigW, Brisbane is a very dull city. Did you upload at 300dpi? I'd agree that for $59 you wouldn't complain, but for $229 you'd be a little unhappy.

        • @Consumer Sheep:
Yeah it was 300dpi. Once my funds aren't so tight I'll probably get it done again at a dedicated printing place to see the difference.

        • I like your photo :)
Could I please get a copy of your photo please?

  • Ordered on 5th, ready in store today.
