The main reason i posted this was the long expiry with a nice enough chunk of data as a backup. I understand that you can get more data for similar amounts but the data usually expires in 30 days.
This is also normally $50

  • Is there a deadline for activation?

    • No idea, sorry. It's nowhere that i could see in their conditions. They do oddly say that data on their starter pack will expire after 94 days, which seems to contradict the 180 day expiry.

So how do we know which it is? It's a deciding factor!

        • Maybe try contacting them and asking? :-/

  • Very nice indeed, does anyone know if this would work in the HUAWEI 3G (Connect ten) mobile wifi modem that officeworks, kmart and target were selling way back for $24? This is for 3G on Voda, so not worried about 4G myself.
I never got another Optus sim for this when my data ran out as for what I wanted it was not worth the cost. But for use while at work to allow me to check Ozbargain using my acer tablet, this would last me the six months easy (Get in trouble for using internet on the work Pc's, but they don't care about you using your own data, even if you are still not working, but on the net :-)

180 day expiry is marvelous find OP thanks heaps.

    • +1

Yes, It should be fine. I use this sim in the Huawei 4G one without any issues

      • Thanks heaps for the quick reply

    • You may need to add APN for Vodafone.

      • Thanks @slackme, I will google that APN if I need to do it.
I was out shopping at Hillarys WA, and asked the Vodafone shop if they could sell me this kit for the deal price, but it is online only (The shop is an actual Voda shop).

    • I don't have a 3g/4g wifi modem.
      Any recommendation?

  • If you have a phone where it can take Dual Sim cards, would it be possible to use the data on the post paid first and when the data on the post paid is finished then choose to use this prepaid data?

    • If your phone lets you switch between which data you want to use first, I don't see why not. I know that for the LG G3 dual variant, I can choose to use data from SIM 1, and once that's finished, I can choose to start using my data in SIM 2

    • You can set a data alarm, and then switch it over manually if you want

    • Yes you can, but the problem is most dual sims only support 2G in one slot which means the data is as slow as not connected!

    Voda's response to Optus?

    • +1

That was what prompted me to start having a look around at other options in my spare time at work this week…i was going to pull the trigger on their $50 plan but wanted something cheaper and found the the Vodafone option. The Optus deal is also good though!

  • @Allfor-1 You should have complete control on which SIM you would like to use on most dual SIM phones.

  • Also got bonus 4gb when sim activated so total 12gb. Not sure why.

    • I got 2gb bonus at activation for 10 gb total.

  • +1

I got 8GB bonus data when I activated this last week so total 16GB with 6 months expiry. I was expecting the 2GB free data that Vodafone is giving this month, but got this instead so it's even better.

    • Nice, how did you manage that may I ask?

Dumb Q : Can this be used in a iPad?

    • -4

Yes, it is a dumb Q. I have an iPad that I can't put a sim in, as it is a wifi only iPad. Some iPads also can connect to cellular networks, they can take a sim. You need to tell us if your iPad is wifi or wifi + cellular, then we may be able to answer your Q, and then it won't be a dumb Q. :) (and maybe you will have answered your own Q). I'm surprised that after 6 hours nobody has answered for you, maybe it's not as dumb as you think, or I am falling for a troll-trap…

      • Thanks for D effort - yeah it's for a cellular iPad.

    • I am pretty much sure you can use it on a cellular model iPad. CMIIW.

  • Can I buy this, put it in phone, and use all the data in new Zealand within the 180 days?

    • Bummer, So it looks like a 1 month data expiry (for data). Not as good a deal then. But good find for those needing lots of data..

      • Data contained in the Starter Pack expires after 180 days.

  • Might be useful for some pet/asset tracker, Arduino etc. projects ;)

  • Thanks OP. Will sort my 2 schoolkids out for hopefully 6 months (on Optus $50 per 6 month atm and it lasts them 2!).

  • -2

Remember those nutjob liberals that thought 4G would be better than Fibre?

I burn ~200gb a day on FTTN which isn't even real NBN.

  • Thanks ordered one. Does anyone know this 'prepaid mobile broadband' comes with a number or this is a whole different thing?

    • +1

Generally you can chose a number from a drop down list of 10 numbers or so

  • Can this be used with roaming?

  • thanks OP! bought one to use for backup data in my dual-sim phone

  • Been all over the Voda site and cannot find 180 day expiry. Can anyone provide a link other than the "Go to deal" (which doesn't lead to 180 day expiry deal)

    • T&C under the pack: " Data inclusion: Data contained in the Starter Pack expires after 180 days. "

    • When you click on the actual product, it says just 2 things right beneath it. 8GB Data and 180 day expiry.

  • Can I make phone calls with that simcard? If so, what fee is?
And can I transfer my phone number(Amaysim) to this Voda simcard?

    • +1

It's a data sim so no…unless you are using a digital service such as WhatsApp or Skype, then yes…

  • Does this include unlimited spotify data?
