I think the myrepublic unlimited plan 100/40 for just $9 more is a way better offer.

    • -4

      Thanks dosada,

Really appreciate the comment. $9 a month is still $108 more in a year, and the question is would you be able to see the difference? If yes, don't sign up with us, if no, we would love you to join our teleron family, where customer service is paramount!

      • +2

I was excited until I saw that you offered unlimted plans which implies congestion.
Customer service is appreciated, but I'm happier on a congestion free network.

        • Thanks so much for your answer. We take congestion very very seriously. And hence, limit the number of users that can purchase our limited plans. We also purchase a much higher than average CVC, because we do not want our network to be congested. If you try us you won't be dissapointed

        • Who are you comparing your averages to? I'm sure what other retailers/suppliers buy would be commercial-in-confidence

        • @Lukian: Many thanks Lukian, Having worked in the industry for very long we know the average use in Australia and hence, we make sure we spend more money to go about it. We will continue to do so to ensure no congestion.

        • @Lukian: The averages I've seen thrown around, while probably not correct is a 100:1 overcommit ratio.

        • @Trewq: With the assumption that every user is 25mbit (which they aren't), that seems pretty accurate.

        • @Trewq: 100:1 is not unusual for bandwidths like that. Typical contention ratio for home-grade 1.5Mbps ADSL many years ago was 20:1

      • +3

Whoever can't notice the difference in 100/40 and 50/10 should probably not be allowed to go online anyways.

  • Any deals for any more data? say 500GB?

    • +1

Not at the moment, but if you sign with the 200G and need to upgrade, we may be able to come up with a deal that suits you if you would like to speak to our customer service reps

      • +2

Sign up first, then possibly upgrade? No thanks.

    What is NBN?

    • +2

Hi Kleetus, many thanks for your question. It is the National Broadband Network in Australia. It builds fast internet for all the homes in Australia. We use their infrastructure to provide you fast internet

      • +2

If its a National Broadband Network why cant I get it?

        • It is rolling out around the country, if you put your name down on our website we can contact you as soon as you have it

        • +2

          @teleron:

          So its not currently National?

        • @noise36: Unfortunately, we don't represent the nbn but your comment did make me smile. This is really a question for nbn

        • @teleron: hey bud, what price to get the fibre cable installed privately to a premises? Any idea?

        • +1

@CheapRichGuy: Hi CheapRichGuy, There is a technology choice initiative at nbn which allows a customer to request a quote for a tech choice (at a cost to the customer) and then once receiving the quote decide whether to go ahead or not (at a time agreed with the customer and nbn) http://www.nbnco.com.au/connect-home-or-business/technology-…

      • +3

        You spelled Notional wrong

  • +1

That myrepublic unlimited plan sounds good.

If you guys offer unlimited data and can do some deal…lets talk…
    I don't download much….but I don't like to worry about any limits.

    • THeRock4Eva, many thanks, but at the moment this is our deal. In future we may do unlimited plans. However, we do limit the number of unlimited users as we don't want congestion to occur

    • I don't download much….but I don't like to worry about any limits.

If you don't download much why are subsidising people who download heaps by choosing an unlimited plan?

If you exceed the download limit, then the worst that happens is your speed is slowed down.
If you sign up to an ISP with congestion then you expect to have congestion during peak hours (4pm-10pm)

      • Many thanks Mathew, to date we have yet to experience any congestion. You can always upgrade to the next tier if you see you are using more data than required. But it is cheap!

Love clause 9 in the Fair Use Policy..

Technically you're not allowed to leave Steam open and automatically updating games unless you're physically at the computer, when using TeleRon

    • Which is?
(I wrote this before I saw you'd written what it was.)

      • +3

        Automated Applications
The service is provided for interactive use. However, if automated programs or programs that maintain a persistent connection to a remote service are used, they must only be used when you are physically present at the computer. These activities include (but are not limited to) automated file downloading, IRC 'bots', continuous streaming media and peer-to-peer file sharing applications.

Also looks like you're not allowed to leave spotify or youtube open and walk away from the device =)

        • -3

Lukian, many thanks, you are allowed to leave spotify and youtube open.

        • +7

          @teleron:

Thank you almighty god Teleron, can I have permission to use the bathroom as well?

If you want to legitamise your service, allow use of any continuous services.

If I pay for a connection, I can use it legally however I want, you are attempting to trick customers to profit off them.

        • +1

So if I download something large, I must be sitting at my computer? How would they know? Or am I taking you too literally?

    • +3

Yeah really silly.. Sonarr etc aren't allowed.. Not sure how they'd tell.. I have 2 people living in my house each on a PC for 12hrs a day at opposite times, duh! Any comments on this Rep? 200GB is 200GB, why should you tell us how we can use it legally?

Edit: Removed clause as posted above.

      • -3

This fair use policy is primarily for the unlimited offer. We won't be telling you how to use the internet as long as you don't do anything illegal or fraudulent

        • +3

          Please stop being misleading.

          Primarily does not equal only.

So you openly admit that your unlimited plan is not unlimited too? I caught you there.

  • +10

I would not recommend these guys, they will probably ban or shape you when you do something they don't like.

The service is provided for interactive use. There are plenty of legitimate providers available, why would you go with a company like this.

    • -1

Many thanks Sam, we want to make sure that you use a fair policy, in particular for our limited plans. On our 200G plan, if you o passed it your speed will just decrease to 256kb.

      • +4

Did you even read what is in the post?

You disallow continuous use of anything, your service is not legitimate while you have that policy.

        • -5

Sam many thanks, I appreciate your comment but no need to be rude of course. Like I said, we ensure our fair use policy to ensure all our customers have an ability to enjoy their internet. You will find that many ISPs do so. However, on a 200Gb plan it is not an issue, because if you were to download more than 200GB it would just go down to 256kb/s. Many thanks for your comment

        • +6

          @teleron:

Name one ISP that isn't dodgy that doesn't allow "continuous streaming media" and "peer to peer"

Telstra, Optus, TPG and everyone else allow it.

Please don't try to scam us by making up stuff like that.

        • -5

@samfisher5986: Many thanks, appreciate your comment. This is not a scam. We will not be checking any of your downloads unless they are fraudulent or illegal. This is for a 200Gb plan and rest assured our customers have only been happy with us, but happy to discuss further with you. You will find that our fair-use policy is similar to most large ISPs

        • +3

          @teleron:

Why are you checking our downloads? Other ISP's do not do this. That is a violation of our privacy. Why are you snooping?

Prove that your fair use policy is similar to large isps.

Please stop lying and claiming something without proof.

Due to your incompetence in answering simple questions I do not trust this business and will have to negative vote.

        • -2

@samfisher5986: Thanks again for your question. By all means no need to be rude, if you do not want to join don't but please try and be polite whilst doing it :) If you change your mind and want to join us we would love to have you as a customer

        • +6

          @teleron:

Your service is not legitimate, I am not being rude.

I am trying to warn other ozbargainers of your illegitimate service.

Your ability to dodge questions you don't want to answer is amusing.

        • +1

I must agree with samfisher5986 here. Why aren't you directly answering the question being asked? He is not being rude by directly asking you a question, of which you ignored when answering, and complain when he reasks the question. A FUP is crap on a limited plan. You are paying for 200Gb of data, why should you have any right as a service provider to limit how this is used (streaming, non-interactive downloading, etc)?

I'll happily stay with my Optus unlimited NBN plan, thank you. That has no limits or exclusions.

        • -2

@vger74656: vger many thanks, I think it is worth for you to read the fair go policy of your ISP, I am sure you will find the limitations there

        • +2

          @teleron:

          No, he won't.

        • +1

          @Aquino316:

Actually no thats wrong, its only been recently been changed to only be for unlimited users.

Having said that.. their policy for unlimited users is still makes it a horrible company I wouldn't recommend anyone deal with.

        • +1

          @John316:

TPG, unlimited everything, no dodgy terms of service and I get full speeds.

      Hi Regie,

Thanks so much, I don't understand the question or comment

  • -6

    nothing exciting

  • Is it possible to transfer the connection from one house to another (both houses have NBN available) during the 12 month contract?

    • Yes!

    200GB in 2016

    • +6

      Good mobile phone plan

      • +2

        Australian broadband guys.

Cant use steam 'unattended' and other draconian nonsense.

What if I remote into a PC and use it to download stuff?

OMG an 'unattended computer' - companies like this is whats wrong with Australian internet and people who sign up have rocks in their head.

  • +3

I don't believe anyone should ever purchase a service off a company this deceiving.

Their deceiving comments about congestion (have an attitude of "our network is really good!!", but show they're clueless when asked questions about CVCs, ratios, etc) and their ToS misleading customers of their rights under consumer law. You're paying for a 24/7 connection, you damn well are allowed to use it 24/7 - no matter if you're at your computer or not.

Overall the attitude of "Buy it now because we say it's good!!!!" by the rep is absolutely pathetic marketing. Prove its good, not pressure potential customers into believing it's good… And dont copy pasta your ToS from '90s dialup connection agreements.

    • +1

I dont even think that kind of crap flew in the 90's… I never heard of this no running IRC bots or 'unattended computers' crap.

What is one to make of consoles where you may need to download 20 or even 50gb or more? What am I supposed to look at a countdown timer? for hours on end?

  • +1

Hmm…not a very good first impression of Teleron I must say.

  • +3

"Sale starts Friday 11th November 9am and ends after 50 hours or until stock lasts"

    Ummmm…
How can an internet service run out of stock??

  • +2

I called up Teleron today and expressed my concerns about the Fair Use Policy. Their CEO (Ron Gelberg) called me back and has now updated clause 9 of the Fair Use Policy to make it clear that, for capped plans, the only outcome will be for the speed to be capped once you reach your data limit.
This clears up my concern and I have put in my application to take advantage of the offer.

    • +1

Thanks e_wolfe. That make more sense. I will put my application in as well.

    • +1

Thats definitely an improvement but the wording is still completely silly for their unlimited plans.

I guess if you want unlimited go to the many ISPs that do real unlimited.

  • +1

Only signed up today and my connection is already active. Just did a speed comparison to USA between my Aussie Broadband 25/5 connection, which is still active and my new Teleron 50/20 connection. Bit disappointed to get a faster result with my Aussie Broadband connection:
    Teleron:
    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5789138527

    Aussie Broadband:
    http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5789140772

Teleron are looking into it for me – will report back on the outcome

    • what are the results? FTTN?

      • My nbn connection is FTTP.

        • Teleron are looking into it for me – will report back on the outcome

          So how did it go?

Never mind - I have seen it on Whirlpool.
