Here's this week's catalogue for Big W, with the highlight of $46 for Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon.

It's currently the cheapest price for a new release, and heck, maybe for a while too (since Nintendo rarely drop prices).

The game releases on the 18th (Friday).

This deal is absolutely fantastic, its gonna be hugeeeee-eeeeeee!

  • How much is the Assassins creed Ezio colllection?

  • Anyone know what the price will be at Target?

  • Any PS4 console deals?

    • +1

Only what's shown on that page -

PS4 Slim 1TB with Watch Gods 2, Watch Dogs 1 and 3-month subscription of Stan for $449.

  • Will ebgames price match if I get there at 9am (when I assume bigW will still have stock)?

    • +3

Yes, they should. Bring the catalogue with you for easy reference to the cashiers.

      • Awesome, thanks!

    • +1

In my experience EB don't pricematch anywhere you can't literally walk to - so I don't quite get the point.
When I bought OR/AS, EB in sydney city wouldn't pricematch anywhere except JB.
JB pricematched Target, but not Big W.

      • How far is bigw from eb there?

      • I get points on my ebgames card. I don't even know what they're for but it's enough of a reason to see if they price match before I try somewhere else.

Luckily my local ebgames has a Big W in the same complex.

        • +2

The point system can be quite beneficial once you get level 3/4. The extra 15%/20% bonus trade in credit can usually be stacked on their other offers and you can score yourself an extra chunk of change for your trades. I believe level 4 members get offered 'hard to find'/exclusive editions of games and whatnot before the public which could be beneficial to you.

        • @Kugz:
Is there any other point in the card if u don't do trade-ins?

        • @Blitzfx:

I suppose it also makes it easier to access your account with them (for if you preorder things/if they need to contact you etc). Just makes transactions a little easier I guess.

        • @Kugz:

What sort of price do they give you for trade ins? Is it similar to what you'd get on eBay/Gumtree? I've seen their preowned prices, and assume they'd still be making a profit on that re-sale.

        • +1

          @aragornelessar:

It's a bit hard to say. The trade-in value goes up and down, I assume due to demand/what sales are on. The only time I ever trade in any games is when they do the +50% bonus offers.

I recently traded in 14 games and got around $200 trade-in credit. Some examples were:

          Fallout 4 for PS4: $17
          WWE 2K16 PS4: $17
          FIFA 15 PS4: $35
          Final Fantasy Type:0 XONE: $12
          NBA LIVE 14 PS4: $12

Those prices are base trade in + 50% bonus + Level 3 15% bonus. I don't think that is horrible value for a lot of older games/duplicates I had lying around. Some of the games you could never sell on Gumtree (NBA/FIFA etc games that are from 2013) and some aren't worth the hassle (Fallout 4 goes on Gumtree for ~$20 regularly).

If you're going to trade in games I would suggest that you

          A) Wait for a trade-in bonus offer (they usually do +50% on big items/new games)
          B) Consider how much they're going for on Gumtree and whether it is worth your time selling individual games
          C) How much you paid for them - you may end up making money on your trade ins (I paid $15 for FIFA 15 :P)

I would not trade in NEW RELEASE games though. The secondary market will net you a lot more cash than what EB offers. If you wanted to do any kind of trade in on your newer games, JB HiFi does a 2-for-1 swap which I think is a little better.

      • I've had EB at Westfield Knox price match Big W when JB wouldn't. (there's no Big W there)

      • Unless things have changed since I did work experience at EB in 2011 they would just ring the local store see if that store has stock if they do they'll price match it. Didn't matter how far away the store was.

  • Might be able to price match at JB Hifi and get the preorder figurine.

    • hopefully but i doubt it.

    • In the past I have been denied preorder bonuses when pricematching (this was EB though at X/Y launch)

    • +1

They'll only price match without the figurine. (Which is what they did for me today)

  • +1

    (since Nintendo rarely drop prices).

yeah, found this really surprising. i'm shocked how nintendo doesn't do price skimming like call of duty etc does

    • +2

Most games sell huge in the first week and drop off dramatically. Nintendo games usually have a long steady selling life. That is why they don't drop prices while others do

      • nintendo is almost exclusively produces games for the 3ds, so they can put whatever price their want. first party nintendo games rarely ever go on sale

      • Actually we are screwed over in Aus, Since UK and USA have large discounts on older Nintendo games constantly at places like amazon/walmart

  • +1

Do they usually get sold out??? just wondering whether I have to get there early or not

    • +1

When Black & White came out, I had to go to four different shops on release day before I found one that had any stock left. Never had an issue with any of the others though.

      • I guess this one is popular, because I still can't find a copy almost a week after release :(

  • Great franchise!! Although I already finish the cia version of the game. Still will be buying the genuine one.

  • +1

EB still has the limited edition ones for $69.95, shipped only but for me it was a very reasonable $3.50.

Whether or not the steel-book, pin and poster is worth it though is up to you!

    • +7

Is it worth $23? Probably not, but that's just me

      • +1

That edition is a world exclusive. $23 might seem silly to some, but the edition will be quite rare and worth a fair amount. Very similar to the ocarina edition of ocarina of time on 3ds. That sold for huge amounts. I know which edition I will be getting :)

        • Are limited edition of mass produced games really worth that much? I see so many pre owned limited edition Steelbook cases at discounted prices every time I go to eb.

        • +4

@Orpheus: Nintendo limited editions are usually quite limited. You will not see that pin anywhere else in the world. Pokemon collectors outside of Australia would be interested in it.

I am not here to sway anyones opinions. Get whatever you think is best value for you. I am a big enough fan that I am happy to pay the extra money.

        • @Dany34:

Gametraders exclusive edition with framed movie stills most likely will be worth more then EB version in 20 years

        • What's this framed movie stills edition? I can't seem to find any info on it online.

  • Woah a Nintendo game cheap on new release!?, what is this wizardry

    • +8

Release is often when games are cheapest. XY was actually cheaper at $44.

  • +4

Don't forget free Genesect Eb games event ends on the 24th of this month!

a new chapter begins on the 18th of november, as the slumbered champions will once again, be awakened to take on a brand new adventure, filled full with excitement and challenges to their endeavour. Competitive battling will take on a whole new turn, strategies will be rearranged and configured to pokemon sun and moon. Embrace yourself my champions, we will once again embark on an adventure filled with full of reminiscing memories of our past…

  • for what it's worth i've played through 40 minutes of pokemon Moon and I just can't stand how slow the whole thing is. I only just was able to start finding wild pokemon and overall I'm just frustrated at how slow and shit everything looks.
I know pokemon fans won't like that opinion though, but yeh, it's a disappointment so far :\

    • If you don't mind me asking, how did you play Pokémon already?

      • Someone got their hands on a Moon cartridge (probably works at a small game shop) and dumped the whole game last week. With a hacked 3DS these days you can just install the full game straight to your homescreen.

I heard there is a Sun version out now too.

    • +1

Pokemon fan here but I agree with you. Tried the demo. I don't like how the game looks, don't like the angle of the viewpoint cause I feel like I don't know where I am heading and it did feel painfully slow…

      • YES! It was hard to get a sense of direction due to being too zoomed or something. Also no 3d mode in gameplay mean scanline central :<

    • +1

I've played further in the "extended" demo and there are more problems, from a technical standpoint the game has not fixed the framerate issues from gen 6 and design choices have actually made them worse. I have a new 3dsXL and the framerate drops severely in double battles because not only are there 4 pokemon on the field, the trainers are now displayed on the field effectively giving the game strain in a double battle it only had to deal with in triple and hoard battles before.

The rideable pokemon feature is actually quite annoying, the item finder solution which is a ridable stoutland is particularly bad. It's slow and it's range is terrible. It's a downgrade from the divining rod/deeley bopper from gen 6 and still nothing has surpassed the touch screen based radar from gen 4. The other pokemon also control like shit, control is fiddly in places and there are some nooks and crannies they just can't go into, frustratingly there are sometimes items in there and your item finder can't fit so you just go where indicated and walk around mashing A. Oh and fishing can only be done on select tiles and you only have one rod so i hope you like fishing magikarp 5 times every time you get to a new area
The dexnav is gone too so you don't have an easy way to find out if you have all the pokemon in an area, but that's likely no problem to most players.

Other than this sort of stuff, there is more, just too much to go into so specifically. At the end of the day it's a pokemon game. It's basically the same thing faults and all as every game before it at a surface level with some improvements and some annoyances added, and as always some things you liked from a previous game taken away.
If you're going to buy it you already know you will no matter what you read about it because that is just how it works. It's just if you're on the fence and X/Y and ORAS rubbed you in all the wrong ways or you're just getting tired of this shit, these games probably aren't going to revitalize you.

      • If you're going to buy it you already know you will no matter what you read about it because that is just how it works.

I've been hoping they were going to fine tune their 3D engine over time, and get back to their roots. But you're right, when pokemon is such a blindly top selling franchise on the 3DS, where would they get the message that they need to change things up?

I don't understand how they can get it so wrong with all the character dialogue. None of it is creative, or entertaining, or even realistic. No kid would enjoy reading the utter trash that comes out of these anime character's mouths. The anime shit should be staying in the show, and the game should be about action and adventure, just like the gameboy games. I want to light every character on fire. It wouldn't be terrible if you could just skip through quickly but they make you sit and tap A for (profanity) forever. < is this their way of extending the game play time considering there are only 4 islands?

The invisible walls are so (profanity) lazy too. I try to walk somewhere they don't want me to go, and out of no where this bitch says "not that way!" and then it fades out with me facing another direction… Or there's some 'taurus' in the way and it fades me the other way. Or it says "pat the taurus!" and I try to walk away and it's like "no pat the taurus" and then fades me back. This is the end of god damn 2016 and the game designers still don't know how to make a game that doesn't babysit you. Even when they give you a choice of what to respond with when asked a question in dialogue, it's literally the most random, most boring and most unimportant question that could exist. And when you give your response half the (profanity) time it seems like the response you get back could have fit for both of the answers…

If they wanted to do dialogue… Like, really really make it like an interactive anime, then okay, but they need to actually do a GOOD JOB at that at the least. But man, it's just terrible, and unfortunately they have control of the pokemon franchise and that's just the way things are now. Oh well. / megarantover. Thanks for your input though, you said it well, glad to hear I'm not alone in feeling this way :) .

  • the game is gonna run out of stock quite fast on release day :o

    • -6

Right. Nintendo never make enough stock for anything ever which artifically inflates the price (assuming it's a success) and the customers demonstrate Apple levels of acting as though they're in a cult loyalty and keep on paying because no other brand makes them feel the same way.

  • +1

EB at Blacktown NSW would have a mindnight launch however they wont pricematch this cause bigW is not open at that time.but if you wait until morning then they will.

In case anyone want to know

    • +3

I understand when they do this, but I hate this sort of thing.

We got the new COD at midnight at EB matching Target, who weren't open. They said they weren't gonna do it for us, so I said "Look buddy, the ONLY reason I would buy this from you is the midnight thing, you make me wait until morning, and I won't be coming here for it" and what a shock, he did the smart thing and ran it through.

  • It's probably going to run out of stock. Last time I tried to snap up pokemon x on release date, my local Big w ran out of stock by arvo. I managed to price match at EB games though, and they had plenty of stock.

  • +1

soooooo excited to snag a copy after my last exam on friday!!!!

  • +2

Will wait for the switch version

    • +1

      whats the switch version

      • Nintendo Switch? No?

        • Oh, I didn't know about the new Nintendo console. Makes sense.

  • When you say it might sell out, are you taking about a couple of days with no stock or a couple of weeks/months? We are buying it as a present and need it by 2nd of December and we were not planning on buying it right on release. Should we be worried about finding stock?

  • whats the deal on xbox one s in that catalogue? been looking for a good deal on it

    • looks like minecraft and lego star wars from the pic

    • +4

This one has changed a lot and there has not been a new one in 3 years

      • Damn, I swear gen 6 was way more recently. Where does time go

    • +1

"I'll buy one copy of CoD Infinite Warfare, my good sir and here's my pre-order for next year!"

      • Well yeah, CoD and all the yearly franchises are even worse

        • +3

People say Nintendo never stop making their core games, but that's such an easy thing to say without context. Yeah Nintendo make like 4 Mario games a year, but they're often vastly different to each other AND the iterations from a year earlier. To put into perspective, Paper Mario came out last month, and there hasn't been one of those in 3 or 4 years. The Mario game coming on the Switch is a Galaxy/Sunshine/64-esque series entry (I think?) and there hasn't been one of those in nearly 5 years. Even Super Mario Galaxy was 2007 and its direct successor, Super Mario Galaxy 2, was 2010, nearly 3 years apart to make a game they already had the mechanics and assets for.

Yeah this year had Pokemon Go and last year had that weird… pokemon-y Tekken thing, but they're so vastly different to the core franchise that it barely even counts as 'making the same thing every year'. The difference is CoD never takes a break to release a sports or fighting game or a monopoly-esque property management game, it's ALWAYS a shooting game that borrows heavily from the iteration a year or two prior.

I found Mario 3D World on Wii-U to be impressive because they introduced a new concept on almost every single level that had never been in a Mario game before, and people never give Nintendo credit for that… And then they did their best effort to destroy the Metroid and Star Fox series this year. Nice one, 'Tendo.

        • @FrankMcFuzz:

Fair enough. Maybe I'm just bitter cause I've always wished they would make a truly next gen pokemon game

        • @Pacify: The battle mechanics have changed vastly since RBY. When playing competitively, it's more than just spamming STAB moves because there's so much more to be considered.

  • +1

Are there any further discount methods with Big W? 5% off Woolies gift cards at Cashrewards?

I've been eyeing the FE:Fates/Birthright ammibo boxes from Big W, and 5% off is the only further OzBargaining I could think of

  • Anyone ever had any luck price matching at midnight launches? Reckon I might do that at EB if I can.

    • I doubt they'll match at the midnight launch, but I'm gonna try tomorrow morning.

  • gotta catch'em all!

  • what number page is that?

  • +1

    Any updates on stock?

    • edit: silly me - t'was not out yet.

  • anyone going to try get it tonight? will big w sell them tonight?

  • I'm an idiot - I went into EB today and tried to buy it…

    • Me too. Walked around BigW and Target.

  • Today's the day!

  • +1

    Update on stock levels?

  • +1

Managed to price matched it in EB games without any hassle

    • +1

      At the midnight launch?

      • No, just got it this morning before work

  • Does Big W have lots of copied? Thinking of getting one in the afternoon.

    • Should do. or EB and JB should price match if you show the picture of the catalog.

      • Only problem is if Big W runs out they will stop price matching though.
