Dyson V6 Absolute $439.2 Click and Collect - The Good Guys eBay 20% off

1360
CGUYS20

This has to be the cheapest that this has ever been, $549 in stores less 20% for $439.20 click and collect.

If you're not sure which V6 might be best for you I've tried to explain the differences here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275638#comment-4170839

The V6 Absolute was the top of the line Dyson Cordless Vacuum until it was superseded with the V8 ($849). There's nothing wrong with the products and many of the current lines of V6's are continuing but this is the one that comes with the most accessories.

Motor head - Carpet head with Nylon fibres (red strip) to adgetate carpet fibres knocking the dust out and carbon fibre filements to pick up hair and dust staticly charged.

Fluffy head - Perfect for hard floors (tiles, slate, laminate, wooden)

Mini motor head - Upholstery cleaner, car, couch, dining chairs, mattress ect. (cloth only not leather)

Non motorised tools - Crevice and combination (soft dusting and mini upholstery).

20minute runtime on normal power
6 minute runtime on max (generally not required)
Washable filter (make sure it's dry before putting it back in)
Docking station

That I think is the lowest ever… I was stoked to pay $550 earlier in the year before the V8 came out of course…

  • After missing out on the Amex $100 credit deal from Harvey Norman (was hoping to get the V6 Slim for $248), i'm looking at getting the Slim for $318.40. Is the Absolute worth the extra?

    • +1

      yes

    • +4

      Absolute..ly…

Well depends what you want to clean with it I guess. I've also found it hard to find comparisons but some of the different attachments and heads to make for a better experience and clean…

I've requested Choice do a review on the Dyson 'ranges' as it seems no one has actually done the tests that I could find online between the ranges and just 'how much' better they are at cleaning but I do find some of the entry products to be a little harder, require more work and time to get the same job done so I guess in the long run if you plan to keep it for a number of years I would say pay the extra if you can :-)

      • Thanks! Yup it's really hard to find a decent comparison between all the models

    • +8

The slim is one of the newest products from Dyson it shares the same motor and battery and general design as the Absolute but there are key differences mainly with the accessories -

On the slim the main head's brush bar is around 4cm shorter and much smaller in diameter. That's the only motorised head that you'll get.

On the Absolute you get the longer and larger in diameter brush bar with more power for the carpet (can be used on carpet and non delicate hard floor surfaces), as well as the fluffy for hard floors (including delicate surfaces like polished wooden floorboards), and the mini motor head for upholstery.

The Absolute also has a hepa filter on the back to capture dust coming from the exhaust although if you take care of the washable filter and empty the machine when needed this isn't likely an issue.

      • Fantastic explanation for a n00b like me, thanks very much! Think i will bite the bullet

      • I was thinking to get one around $350 and now I'm getting more confused than ever. SO many variants (even in the V6 range!). What is the basic difference between animal vs absolute?

The ones in my budget range:
        Dyson 218109-01 V6 Cordfree ($359 after discount)
Dyson 209462-01 V6 Motorhead Handstick ($399 after discount) <— stretched my budget already
And the Slim which you already explained.

Can you help to comment on the other two?

        • +43

Varients in the V6 range -

All V6's share the same design bar colour which corisponds to which package it comes in. They have the same motor and the same battery.

The differences are purely accessories the ones that remain the same are the crevice tool and combination tool. Different tools include -

Narrow motorised main head - a smaller version of the near identical motorised head (roughly 4cm shorter) this might be beneficial if you have a lot of narrower areas to access and is the same sized head as on the dc34/35/44/45 redesigned. It is better in layout than the dc45 head as it's less likely to get things caught in it. suitable for carpet and hard floors

Motorised main head - the standard head roughly 4cm longer so you don't need as many back and forths to clean the room, but virtually identical in all other ways. suitable for carpet and hard floors

Motorhead - has a direct drive motor that is housed within the brush bar, it has a bigger diameter and more power than the previous Motorised main head and gets deeper in to the carpet. suitable for carpet and non delicate hard floors

On the narrow/motorised/motorhead they each have red/purple strip made of nylon to adgetate the carpet and knock dust out and carbon fibre filaments for statically carged things like dust and hair.

Fluffy - Basically looks like a paint roller on a vacuum, made of microfibres and with strips of (you guessed it) carbon fibre filaments to pick up fine dust from hard floors. This is a surface cleaner and not a polisher, will not buff and CAN NOT but used with water or detergents. suitable for hard floors only including delicate ones such a polished parkantry

Mini motorised head - Upholstrey brush for use on cloth and carpeted areas if required, with the stick attached it works well on carpeted stairways as well. I mainly use my as a handheld when cleaning the car. This tool used with a bit of market spin is what they call the animals.

V6 slim - Narrow motorised head only
V6/V6 Cordfree - motorised head only
V6 Animal - motorised head and mini motorised head
V6 Motorhead - Motorhead main head and mini motorised head
V6 Fluffy - Fluffy head and mini motorised head
V6 Absolute - Motorhead, Fluffy head, and mini motorised head - also has a hepa filter on the exhaust

Currently do not buy the Animal as for the same price you can get the Absolute which is the same product with more attachments or go for the motorhead/slim if you wish to save more.

Do not buy the Fluffy as it's more expensive than the Absolute which again contains the Fluffy but also more.

I narrow down that range as follows -
V6 slim - cheapest V6 and worth spending a little more than the DC45 for (around $320 after discount)

V6 motorhead - if you want the upholstery motorised brush and a bit more carpet cleaning oomph (around $400 after discount)

V6 Absolute - if you want the Fluffy head and/or are willing to spend the bit more for the hepa filter ($440 after discount)

        • @rekabkram: Wish I could upvote this comment 10x. Thanks!! That clears it up. I'm leaning towards to absolute now thanks to the hepa filter (my wife is VERY allergic to dust particles).

Do you reckon this could get cheaper on Christmas/Boxing day?

        • +4

@Rsalim: I think it could get slightly cheaper on a lucky eBay sale but I don't think the V6 Absolute will still be available at Christmas. Its at that difficult stage where you might save a little more but then you risk them selling out.

I don't believe they'll ever go for under $400 and I don't think it will ever reach this price in store.

        • +1

@rekabkram: I would bet there with be a handful left over after Christmas in random stores that get heavily discounted (i.e. sub $400) - but nothing like the reliable quantity of this deal.

        • @rekabkram: You absolute legend!!

Wasn't sure which one to buy until I read your review. Like you said, nothing on the internet which compares the different V6 models.

        • @rekabkram: do you have a recoomendation on non battery stick vacuum

i just want a decent bagless one for floorboards

HEPA filter would be nice but optional

          less than $300

  • So tempting, I got a V6 base model. The absolute comes with direct motor head and HEPA filter, good for filtering dust and pollen.

  • Very tempted to get this one, black decker i got some time back is such a piece of garbage.

  • +1

Bought! I'm sick of my old Nilfisk and wheeling it about.

  • Thanks OP

  • You're a champ, OP. Been tossing up between the V6 Absolute and the V8 Absolute (my frustratingly-girly sinuses demand a HEPA filter). At this price, I can't justify the extra for the V8!

    • i personally have a v6 and i must say it does the job ok. i would prefer to use the v6 at MAX mode all the time but it only last 20 minutes on normal mode. MAX mode probably only last 10 minutes or so. the power of the V8 on normal mode is surely an upgrade but of course you pay that premium. there was a pricing error on harvey norman website on friday before their super saturday sale which the v8 absolute went for $799 with $80 HN voucher! if you pay with AMEX you get $100 cash back.

      • Amex HN deal is over now :(

      • The vacuum will spend most of its life in a one bedroom apartment, with very little carpet, so 20ish minutes on the normal setting should do just fine!

  • Bought one. Thanks OP!

  • finally bought the beauty

  • Can anyone clarify the return policy on this purchase?

    • +1

Keep the receipt. Take it back to the store when it has a fault with it. Simples.

      • Thanks, but i was after return policy, not warranty policy…

        • +1

I thought they are the same thing?

Are you asking if you return it - do you get a refund, credit or exchange?

        • @King Bee: Yeah I meant like a change of mind return, in case wifey decides I'm spending too much!

        • +16

@hashtagbargain: Oh okay. Change of mind are the worst excuse you can use when returning something electrical. Just say "it's not sucking up the cat hair that it said it could do."

Or you could quickly ask your wifey first?

You: 'Hey wifey, hope you're having a lovely day. Just wondering wouldn't it be super awesome to have a Dyson V6 Absolute?! And guess what? It's on special today!'
Wifey: 'Oooooo another vacuum cleaner for the house?! No.'
You: 'But it will suck up all the cat's hair?'
          Wifey: 'Really??'
          You: 'Yeah!'
          Wifey: 'Still no.'
          You: 'But it's ultra portable!'
          Wifey: 'No.'
          You: 'Ok'
Wifey: 'Don't forget to grab milk on the way home.'
          You: 'Ok.'
Wifey: Don't forget to take Johnny to soccer after.'
          You: 'Ok.'

        • +1

7 days for change of mind

        • @King Bee: Made me laugh, heres a +ve :)

        • @hashtagbargain: I feel you man. Wifey idea of spending for vacuum cleaner is $150 tops

  • So Good Guys don't have the V8 Absolute on eBay or maybe they're hiding it during this promotion. Damn. I need Soft & Hard floor capabilities plus the better battery life the V8 offers :(

    • this one?

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Dyson-164526-01-V8-Animal-Han…

whoops…sorry this is the V8 Animal

      • +1

Yeah, exactly what I did earlier :)

All good though, I might just buy a V8 Absolute at full price via their online store and bump up the purchase to $900 by adding something else and take advantage of their $200 voucher offer. We've just moved house and need a few things so this all works out nicely.

  • Does anybody know what the best price on the V8 absolute has been so far, and if the odds on that being beaten before Christmas?

I've been waiting for another good deal on the V8 but this is terribly tempting too.

  • +1

Anyone else having an issue trying to use CC payment?
It will only let me use the code if I use Paypal for payment.

    • That is normal. When using a code you have to pay via paypal

    • Same here, codes only seem to apply for Paypal payment only. OP please update description.

    • I ended up just linking my CC to my Paypal account and using it that way.

  • Bought one! Been holding out for a killer deal on the V6 and convinced the wife with the Hepa attachment. Thanks for finding this 😄

  • +1

What's so good about dyson vacuum?

    • That they suck

      • Premium suck

    • Seeing all your dead skin cells being collected in a highly efficient manner.

  • The V6 Animal is the same price.
    http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick/dyson-v6-…
There seems to be very few differences (50mm narrower, 190g lighter and motorised vs soft head)
    http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick/dyson-v6-…

I note that the Absolute has been marked down from Dyson … and then there's the Motorhead (for $499):
    http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick

It is very hard to spot the differences :S

I do have pets … so err should I just get the Pet version (despite not seeing major differences?)

    • +1

I've put an explanation of the differences a bit above but if tldr; do not buy the animal over the Absolute, the Absolute has been discontinued but has the same motor and battery in the main unit but has better attachments. Only discontinued because of the V8 Absolute.

The Animal sits below both the motorhead and Absolute both of which are better options for you.

  • Just bought one, this is the 3rd Dyson (other 2 still running well) for the house. Happy wife…

  • +2

A relative has been hanging out to get one of these at a cheap price, sent them the link to your post & they bought one .So they say a big thank you.

  • Wow. Awesome price! This is a steal everyone. The price I bought mine for was about $517.

  • +1

Bought one for $600 at HN on interest free several months ago. Our son is suffering from dust mite allergy and hepa filter on the dyson absolute is a godsend. Hardfloor head is also great to collect dust etc. on the edges of the floor. Recommended 100%

  • +1

Hey OP, thanks for the post and the excellent subsequent explanations in the comments. Great job!

  • +1

Purchase GrouponeBay - $85 for $100 to Spend on Anything Online which has 8% cashrewards and save $15. Then use it on ebay which makes the price down to $449. Cashback from groupon is $6.50, ebay is $5.62 and $15 save from groupon on ebay. Total cost = $421.88

    • Have you confirmed this works? In the T&Cs, it says "• Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay or PayPal coupon/voucher "

  • Why is it only the Good Guys that seem to have discounts on these Dysons. We have about $500 worth of Coles/Myer vouchers and been waiting to get a V8 Dyson. But looks like full price at Myer is our only choice?

    • Myer's have their own sales during their own selected time periods from observation in the past year or so and when they have had one which includes Dyson, prices have been similar and one sale (I believe end of financial year sale or one before it) had better Dyson prices but that was before the V8 range and of course no one is sure if it will be similar prices, if it happens again, and if the V8 will be included.

  • -3

But seriously, how many ozb'ers would pay more than $300 for a floor cleaning tool?

    • +6

I know it's a rhetorical question but easily in the tens of thousands.

      • +1

Women have changed the game son.

  • Why doesn't this listing come up as being part of the promo?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Dyson-164527-01-V8-Absolute-H…

    Am I missing something obvious?

    • The good guys have removed the stock from eBay, says out of stock on the top.

  • Why has there been no change in the price of the V6 animal and why is the absolute cheaper?

    • +3

Because they've been discontinued their prices are being dropped while the V6 Animal and the V6 Fluffy are still their normal price because they're continuing.

      Old lineup V6, V6 Animal, V6 Motorhead, V6 Fluffy, and V6 Absolute
New lineup V6 Cordfree, V6 Animal, V6 Fluffy, V8 Animal, and V8 Absolute

      • Cheers

Is there any reason why one would choose the animal over the absolute?

        • None whatsoever, I've detailed the differences above but at the same price you'd just be paying the same money for less.

        • @rekabkram:

So you have, Good post. Completely missed it =/

  • Bought thanks!

  • remember all V6 using same motor. the difference is absolute has the filter and more heads.

i just bought the basic version(256$) and buy heads separately as i need. recommend car clean kit if anyone doesnt know that exists. and the extension soft tube, as some times you need the length but not the unbendable tube.

    • Just to let you know you that the Heads that comes with the Absolute cannot be bought separately, only as replacements if it came with the machine originally.

      • ebay is your friend

    • But by the time you've purchased all that -

Dyson V6 $256 (I'm guess $348 plus post with the Amex deal? Although that model/deal isn't available)
Cordless toolkit $99 (can be had for possibly $50-60 if you get a great deal)

The other heads may pop up on eBay but they're not cheap (Fluffy is generally $100+ by itself) and none of the extras have warranty and not every Dyson cordless connection is the same even from the V6 to the V6 Motorhead the connection changes a bit.

  • Does this work with power or charge only. Don't wan wait for each charge to clean house

    • +1

Charge only. No detachable battery. Apparently made so because the motor needs to cool down

"As the machine is engineered to be compact and light-weight, the motor requires cooling after a flat battery to avoid over heating and this is why the battery is not designed to be swapped out for extended use. "

      More info here: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/dyson-v6/m/v6-absolute.htm…

      • Thanks mate

  • Thanks OP, finally bought my first Dyson! Great price and a very clear description and comparison guide.

  • Thanks OP. just bought 1. very competitive price

  • i heard this was on sale at costco

  • Is the 30 days price protection applicable for eBay sale?

  • I have been looking at the different stick vacuums and have to admit I hadn't even bothered checking out the Dyson products because of the price. I've never paid more than $150 for a vacuum in my life - partly because I always live in small apartments and partly because I'm cheap.
I have been looking at products around the $200 mark but the comments here have me wondering. I had a quick look on the Good Guys site and came across this: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/black-and-decker-32v-lithium-…

Can someone please briefly explain to me why a Dyson is worth so much more?

    • +2

It all depends on how you see it but Dyson is worth more due to the technology put into it and it's reputation, their company goal is to improve already done products in a better way/their own way, whether or not the change is worth the cost is really down to the individual consumer.

You have just explained your personal situation in terms of living and budget situation and that is fine, there is a reason why there are many brands and products in the market to meet different situations such as yourself. Dyson isn't for everyone and at the same time not everyone is just aiming for the cheapest.

If the technology put into their products was mass produced, cheaper to create or established already then their products would be much cheaper and they would (in my opinion) dominate certain product markets a lot more. E.g. if the Dyson fans were the same cost range as traditional blade fans, people would definitely choose Dysons fans over blade fans as they can see it does the job better but it's understandably not the first choice due to budget factor ($30 blade fan vs $400 Dyson fan).

Due to the high cost, naturally, people do expect a lot more or expect way more in a Dyson product with their RRP of their products, and if they do not like what they have experienced then they would feel burned & dislike the brand from one experience based on such a high price and that can be applied of course to every brand in a similar structure.

I am not saying they are perfect, no brand is but that really is their difference in what they are trying to achieve with their products.

With a comparison of the black and decker, in the same price range if you were interested in buying that, compare it with the DC45 which is also currently at $299 or if you can still find one and able to go up a bit the V6 HS at $349 would be an even better choice.

Like I said everyone has a different preference and deciding factors, everyone will prefer something over the other based on personal reasons. Hopefully that helps you and sorry it was a long explanation.

      • Thnkyou for the reply! I'm definitely going to go for a Dyson. Just deciding which one now.

        • No worries, based on what you said with your situation DC45 is the closest to your budget but if you can afford a little bit more than the V6 HS at $349 is more than enough for your situation.

Remember they are still marketed and designed as a spot cleaning vacuum but unless you have a natural thorough cleaning style than it is perfect for your living space and can do the whole place depending on how much and what you are picking up, only just have to empty a few times.

  • GF has been wanting one of these for ages :) Cheers!

  • Really should wait for the absolute :-( I bought motorheaded version when TGG had 20% off last time. We have wood floor at home and I would be happy to pay the extra 40 bucks for the fluffy head! T_T Well, guess I should just sit down and wait for the V8 sale a few years later.
