        That's buzzniss cluss to you

    • If you want a Parcel Locker then Officeworks have their own Mailman Parcel Locker there at the Officeworks stores. I guess the receiver if they wanted to use a Parcel Locker could opt to have it sent to one.

    • "Any 500gm package across Australia*" lols, so I can send 500gm of inflated balloons to Perth as long as it isn't to a post office box?

      • Unlimited helium balloons!?

    • They send to Tassie.

I wonder if ozbargain can get a corporate rate to ship unloved bargains between ozbargainers.

Anything to not have to use Afailure Post

They use Fastway. Research Fastway's track record before you use this service, they are terrible.

    • and auspost is any better?

      • +13

Terrible is technically better than appalling.

        • I'd settle for appalling if I could even get that from Australia Post.

Fast way dont knock, send you a SMS to make redelievery, then just leave it at your door 4 days later

Happened every time, don't know why they are so lazy to create more effort.

      • Fast way dont knock, send you a SMS to make redelievery, then just leave it at your door 4 days later

Sounds like auspost. The only difference is auspost 500g is $7.60.

  • Comes with no insurance. I'm pretty sure Auspost satchels come with insurance.

    • +1

Insurance and signature on delivery are additional charges.

      • +1

Registered has 100 dollar insurance included

        • registered costs extra.

        • that $100 insurance has to meet a number of criteria including you keeping the receipt. has never been useful to me

    • nope, no insurance unless you enable signature on delivery, which is additional charges

  • For comparison Aust Post is $8.50 for prepaid 500g satchel I think.

    • Or $7.60 for a 500g parcel (not in a prepaid satchel)

    • Prepaid Satchels are the most expensive 500g service from Aust Post.
      - Not really a fair comparison if you are looking for best value.

For example, a 500g Large Letter via AusPost is only $5.00 Australia-wide
      - Maximum dimensions : 260 x 360 x 20mm
      - 250g and 125g are even cheaper again.

Heaps of people use 500g satchels when letter rates are much cheaper.

      • For example, a 500g Large Letter via AusPost is only $5.00 Australia-wide
        - Maximum dimensions : 260 x 360 x 20mm
        - 250g and 125g are even cheaper again.

500g large letters doesn't include an article Id or sod. It will cost $7.95 include sod.

Auspost has a monopoly on 250g letters . On other carriers can legally offer this service in oz at a cheaper rate.

  • using them a couple of times already, great tracking, very convenient, the parcel can be deposited in to the locker at any day/hours of officeworks open hours, not that 9am-5pm in Auspost, the speed is great too!

I beg to differ. Fastway in my experience can deliver to the wrong address or just leave the item in front of the receivers door and deem it delivered. Would never use Fastway or couriers please

    • +1

Unless signature on delivery is required it will be ATL (Authority to Leave) and can be left at the front door.

    • +6

      have you used auspost?

Had packages delivered next door, instead of to me. Got a alert when I was home to stay it was delivered. Looked around, nothing. Noticed next door had a package that looked about the size I was expected. Went over, yep its mine, oh look says it needs a signature on delivery.

So auspot guy, faked a signature on delivery, left it at the wrong house. Nice…

Other times, tracking says it was carded, now at the post office waiting pickup. Strange no card was left.

I work from home, I'm ALWAYS here to sign for packages.

      TL;DR they all suck

      • Yep. For $7 whoever you use will be using drivers that are overworked (and likely underpaid as sham-contractors) so a level of failures is a certainty and should come as no shock.

        • If charge was higher, then their drivers won't be overworked? Come on.

        • @virhlpool: correct, go and ask a FedEx, DHL, UPS driver or Toll Same Day driver, they charge a premium price for a premium service.

        • @super8: They make more money, not necessarily the benefits are passed on to the drivers.

      • This is why I have a "Parcel Collect" address with Auspost. It just gets left at my post office and I get an email and SMS when something arrives.

        • But I paid for door to door delivery and I'm HOME to collect/sign for these items.

I shouldn't have to go out of my way to collect an item from a distance pickup point when I paid for DOOR TO DOOR delivery just because auspost sucks at delivery!?

If I wasn't home, then yeah. I would use a parcel collect address. But my place has a safe drop area, parcels that don't need a sig can be left safely at my door and of course, parcel collect addresses only work for auspost items. So I'll still have items coming to my home address.

        • @Level380: Some courier companies can deliver to a Parcel Collect address too - Star Track is an example of one.
You say you paid for door to door delivery - do Auspost come around to your house and pick up the items you are sending out?
Ultimately though, it's your choice. I explained why I use Parcel Collect, my comment was not intended to be an argument for why someone else should do the same.

        • +1

@Minotaur: star track is owned by auspost….. Hence why is can drop off to parcel collect addresses.

    • +1

I had fastway drop a parcel out the front of my place addressed to someone who didn't live there. I called fastway requesting they come and pick it up, but as I was at work I didn't have the consignment number. The super helpful phone support guy said he couldn't do anything without the consignment number, as apparently an address isn't something they store on their system LOL

      Tl;dr Fastway are sh*t house

  • +1

OP is incorrect. It is cubic weight, so you can have a 200g parcel that you have to pay for 2kg parcel.

Youd be surprised as well, my parcel wasn't that big!

    • +1

auspost is the same….. cubic weight on packages when not using satchels.

      • auspost is the same….. cubic weight on packages when not using satchels.

AusPost uses Cubic Weight on satchels too.

The conversion rate is simple: "will it fit in that bag?".

        • Umm ok…. pretty sure that was implied. But cool

      • auspost is the same….. cubic weight on packages when not using satchels.

That is incorrect. Ap doesn't change a cubic weight on <500g parcel post.

  • Wow i checked is cheap! $20 for 5KG box postage as compared to $40+ dollars at Auspost……

but what's the catch? must pick up at officeworks if you are not around to pick up the parcel?

  • I get this rate from our local oz post franchisee

    • How do you only pay $7 for 500grm Satchel?

      • I get this rate from our local oz post franchisee

How do you only pay $7 for 500grm Satchel?

It sounds like there are some dodgy dealings here. The price on satchels are regulated by ap. a franchise wouldn't get it much cheaper than the retail price.

  • What we really need is a disruptor to this item delivery service.
Much like AirBNB for accommodation, and Uber for taxis and eBay for shopfronts.
There are literally hundreds of commuters travelling in cars and planes daily.

    • And no one wants to carry someone else's parcel in a plane.

      • Yep one doesn't want to become an unwitting mule.

      • +1

I would for a fee, some places like South Africa have a high tax on parcels. I would be happy to take a Iphone to Joburg if they paid me 1/2 they would get in tax ($300). Could get a free flight with a small bag of junk

        • Could get a free flight with a small bag of junk

Could end up in jail with that small bag of junk.

  • But who can be bothered to go to Officeworks just to mail something?

    • Depends. You might want to mail something and can't get to a Post Office during their business hours. Every OW I know of is open 7 days, and until 9pm on Weekdays.

  • Do they use Aust Post for this? Oh.. I ready 'Fastway' somewhere in above comments. Which is better - Aust Post or Fastway?

    • Did you read the thread?

      • Please proceed to answer if you did and IF you are willing to.

    • While I've had my fair share of Auspost problems, I would prefer Auspost. Simply because they have competent staff when dealing with issues which is a lot more than I can say about Fastway.

  • Thanks for posting this "deal." It is called Officeworks Mailman. It is not a bad way to access a true courier service, albeit Fastway with all of their reputation. I will give you my experience in using this service in the past.

    • There are fixed sizes of prepaid labels to buy, the 500g is "extra small" then there is "small" 1kg and so on.
    • The label size determines what size 'door' you access on the Mailman locker which is Parcel Locker type thing out the front of Officeworks stores.
    • You have to buy the label first wherein lies a chicken and egg problem. You can't know for sure if your parcel will fit in the respective mailman locker until you are ready to post it.
    • After you buy the label you fill it in. It's a metallic type stick on label that is extremely difficult to write on with a ballpoint pen.
    • You then have to scan the label and self post it. The Mailman locker software is a bit clunky but it works eventually. Probably best to scan the label before sticking it on your parcel as the barcode scanner is recessed and can make it difficult to scan if you've stuck your label on a weird spot on your parcel.
    • The Mailman lockers are picked up by Fastway at a certain time each day so you could be waiting 24+ hrs before your parcel is picked up.
    • YMMV with the knowledge of Officeworks staff on the Mailman system
    • I've had stuff delivered though them. If you miss the delivery (of which you get no notification of beforehand) you need to pick it up at officeworks. Its a bit of PITA.

  • I'm not sure if it happened to anyone else. I just tried to send the parcel through office works mailman. However, I found the scale is not very accurate. It weighs my item at 545 grams. It only weighs 500grams or under in Post office…
