So it appears as though the Rivkin Report has been re-activated after a 13 year hiatus. Here is their spiel:

The all new Rivkin Trading Report, ideally suited to CFD traders, is yours for Four Weeks Free

The Rivkin Report was established on 21 April 1997 with the express purpose of providing independent advice on stock market investing. In 2010 we continue that tradition of independent investment advice with the introduction of a new service, the Rivkin Trading Report.

The Rivkin Trading Report is suited to anyone who is interested in, or already trading, financial markets. It provides detailed trade recommendations across the top ASX 300 listed stocks, the major Australian indices, ASX sectors, major global equity indices, commodities and foreign exchange, primarily using technical analysis. The Rivkin Trading Report is a complete trading advice tool: it can be used as a standalone service, or to accompany your existing research.

I will probably give them a go. I do remember, however, that Rene once said on GMA many years ago that you rarely see wealthy technical analysts. I assumed that meant he mostly looked at the fundamentals of a company. This spiels suggests that they mainly look at the technicals.

Whatever - its free.

  • I'm a tad confused. To my knowledge the Rivkin Report itself has never been on a hiatus as I am a subscriber, however, they have introduced a new report called the Rivkin Trading Report. This is not to be confused with the Rivkin Report as they are two completely different creatures. I found the Rivkin Trading Report didn't meet my needs as I am not a CFD trader. However, DYOR if interested.

  • So, does the Rivkin Report supply mostly fundamentals, or technical analysis as well?

  • didn't he get arrested for using his report to pump stocks he owned?

    • He's singing with the Angels now.

    • Yeah, then he topped himself.

      • Wasnt that due to the humiliation about his 'boy toys' he had? Anyways, pass on anything that spins obtaining an advantage on the stock market.

  • My recollection is that the trade which he is alleged to have insider-traded on was one where he lost money instead of gaining. It was Qantas or something. From memory it was a bit of a trumped up charge to try and get him for something because it was rumoured there were other "worser" items he had done but which he couldn't be charged with so this was at least something. I remember it being a bit of a crock at the time.

Wiki says he made a profit of $2,664.94

I think the citation for that is a court case for the Crown versus Rivkin 2004, NSWCCA 7

It's a bit like with Al Capone, they got him on tax evasion. There might be worse stuff that is rumoured to be true, but just get the guy on what you can.

After the court case it says he was banned from having a stockbroking licence.

      Oh … and

After his divorce, he later moved to the Darling Point home of his elderly mother where he took his own life

  • Thanks

  • Lol I remember yeaaaars back television at 3am consisted of commercials with Rene Rivkin in them saying how successful he was, how big his house was, how nice his car was, and how you could have the same.

  • Trevor Hendy approved!

  • +1

You'd be mad to buy this, or to even think it's a bargain.
