For $46 less you can get a 500gb 'Thompson' one with twin tuners at Target:

    …it's $100 off.

      Lets compare apples to apples.

The TiVo software is a lot better than Thompson's. Plus you can use the TiVo as a media streamer (via PyTiVo - free). And you can get the 1TB WD external storage drive for $20 postage, so it's 160GB+1000GB.

The only issue is finding them in stock.

      • Hi Chris, How do I get the 1tb external drive for $10 ? Is it by redemption from Tivo or I can get it from stores like Myers where I bought the tivo from ?

      • Just thought I'd add that I didn't necessarily compare them except to mention that it was available. I think people should be aware of alternatives.

        • Fair enough. But it's sort of comparing a Benz to a Civic.

I've owned a number of DVRs in the past and my TiVo outclasses them by far. I stream all my BT files to it. It records programs I've never would have known about otherwise ie "stuff I might like".

          It's great. Honestly.

    • or a 'repacked' topfield 500gb for 299 + 10 bucks shipping today at OO.com.au

  • yeh Tivo has a lot of competition coming in the next few months with MHEG5 being released

They need to get a lot more agressive in pricing

  • Do you have any proof we can use of the Myer price to use at Dick Smith?

  • Can't find this advertised anywhere.

  • Call a few myer stores till you find it then price match ad DJ's or somewhere.

  • Well I know I linked to the inferior but cheaper Thompson at Target which was unpopular, but there's also a 'repacked' 500GB Topfield with network connectivity for $310 if anyone's considering getting a PVR:

    http://www.oo.com.au/Topfield_Freeview_HD_Video_Rec_P28783.c…

  • none in Myer Marion SA…only the 320 version

  • Great deal thanks. I made a mistake and got DSE Springvale to price match at $350 (last one). Not sure I will keep it since I have 2 already but I do want the free 1TB.

    • Are you able to please post your receipt so I might be able to snag one up at this price. Desperate for another tivo

  • Just got one for $355 at Erina Myers, last one also!

  • All gone at Cairns. Anywhere else got them? or a receipt to pricematch? Thanks.

    • Yes a copy of a recent receipt would definitely help.

I've rung around Brisbane / Gold Coast. I've found a couple in stock, but the retailers are refusing to budge from $599 without proof of the lower price.

  • Purchased the TIVO 160GB today @ MYERS Bankstown for $350 … great deal :-)

    • Care to upload a scan of the receipt somewhere so that others can get a price match?

  • For those still looking for a Tivo DSE Springwood Brisbane has repacked 160gb for $447. Comes with a bonus $50 Caspa Wallet code and should be negotiable. For those in other states try the old DSE Powerhouse stores. This stock is not listed on the DSE website.
You are still eligible for the $249 1gb expander drive if purchasing before end July

    • I already tried DSE Springwood. They wouldn't budge on $447. I'd be a little weary about their "repacked" nature too. If the serial numbers are already registered on TiVo's website, you might run into issues getting the bonus 1TB external drive as the offer is only for "new" TiVos. Just make sure you can return it if need be.

This stock is not listed on the DSE website.

Technically there's no stock for website sales. The website does list stores with stock however.

I've used this to actually force DSE staff to look for stock. Their normal answer is "we have no stock", but then when told that computer says you do, they come back a few minutes later with "I just found some".

But I've had no luck getting a price match without proof of the lower price.

I must say OzBargainers are less helpful posting receipts compared to other forums. :(

If you still want a copy of invoice please post here.

        • Yes, I'm still looking for a price match receipt.

If you could email one to:
          dvd4me at yahoo.com

          I'd appreciate it.
