MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X OC 8GB [$847.2] - Free Postage [RRP $1049] @ Futu Online eBay

150
C20ELF

This price is pretty amazing, I was looking at 1070s for my 4k build but for 100-200 more than what I was going to spend I can now get a 1080 as opposed to the 400+ extra it was going to cost :D

Thanks OP. Deciding on which one to get, this or ASUS? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331122116748

Strix has always been a good series of cards. Bit noisy at times.

In the end the only real advantage is if you plan on OCing the gpu.
If you will, go with the strix, it has roughly an 80mhz advantage.
If you are just after a 1080 to run at standard clock the msi one would be good.

Get either, you wont regret buying one of the other. I can guarantee that.
Having just built a 1080 build for someone at work (I am an i.t. trainee) It was the cheapest 1080 I could find and he has never been more happy. (Its used for 1080p60fps or 4k @30fps rendering on a daily basis)

        Thanks. Sold me on ASUS.

        • No problem. Hope it serves you well :D

      • What IT work do you do to need a 1080??? :P

Water cooler chit chat with other IT guys?

I work in IT and everyone has amazing rigs at home for bragging rights but at work we all use thin clients and Surface Pro's. Not exactly powerful haha

        • It wasn't for me.
The person is part of a few companies multimedia/advertising teams.
He has just ventured into HD animation and rendering.

Our standard work stations are laptops that cost like $300.
I'm on a machine with a 480 but half of the builds cost was out of my own pocket.

    • The extreme has amazing OC mhz.
Personally won't be buying it because I'm still trying to cut the price down on my build but if I had the extra 70 I'd get it.
Gigabyte has always done well with cooling too

    • If you are going to do VR and SLI down the track I'd get the one for $918. I bought two gaming x 1080s but then needed to fork out another $59 for an SLI bridge and I can imagine that the 5.25 accesorry would be handy for VR.

But if you are not interested in any of that, I'd save the money and get the MSI card. To me, it actually looks a lot nicer too.

      • For SLI won't the top card be a little starved of air in the case of the Xtreme? It's 2.5 slots wide.

Prefer Asus and their lights. Asus fan boy. Decided to get the 1070 as I doubt I will be gaming much in 4k. Might use the savings elsewhere on other bargains.maybe the evo 850 500g :)

    • +1

Yeah I'll be grabbing either an 850 500g or a 750 500g, just gotta do some hunting first :P
Edit: The ebay prices are stupid for both. So I'll just buy some from somewhere else online

  • They have the free Gears Of War game link on their auction, but are not listed as an official seller in the retailer link for the promo.
How do you get the code for the game?
I emailed them and got no reply.

    • +1

The promotion with Nvidia ended yesterday(unless they have extended it again), so I don't think you will be getting any codes anymore. I bought the same cards (in the last sale) and had to register the cards on the MSI site to get a redemption code.

  • Ah, thanks mate.
Futu never replied after 11 days.

    Edit - November 21st. It's been extended.

    • +1

In that case, you might just make it. The code delivery is instant on MSI once you register a card and upload a proof of purchase (at least it was for me). You just need to make sure that you receive the good before that…

  • Get Gigabyte if you have the extra cash, it has more power phases all else equal and probably a better cooler than the ASUS although i'd say its close. Not that power phases make much of a difference currently as the 1080s are locked for the most part but something to take into consideration.

    Gigaybyte Xtreme 12+2
    ASUS Strix 8+2
    MSI Gaming X 8+2?
