For anyone considering this whose a bit techy savvy, I'd recommend going with Ethernet over Powerline instead. You'll get a much better ping suited to online games. You can even put an access point on the other end if you need Wi-fi and turn DHCP off so everyone is on the same network as the main router.

For anyone considering this whose a bit more techy savvy, I'd recommend going with a wireless access point that plugs into an ethernet backbone. will work better than powerline crud and will have a lot more bandwidth available for anyone using the wifi. just make sure you broadcast on a different channel (at least 4 channels away from anything else) from your main unit and try to avoid interference

      • definitely. Just run an ethernet cable and a second access point on a different channel.

Powerline is actually pretty good. I just dug some out an old box for this exact purpose. They are rated 200Mbps, im getting 132Mbps from one room to another room down the hall about 30m? away. More than ample speed for my shitty 20Mbps VDSL NBN and after going through the Powerline and then another WiFi router, it adds 1ms extra ping (9ms now). Not an issue and saved me a lot of time, money or hassle to rewire the house…

    • I've heard that you'll have to somehow make your powerline as "pure" as possible i.e. not introducing any possible interference with appliances on the same network. My information might be outdated though.

      • I didn't bother. Just made sure not put them on an adapter.

  • I've been looking at a few WiFi N extenders. Thanks OP!

P.S. I have 4 EoP devices. They suck at my place!
