This is free in the same sense a Target catalogue is free.

It's a form of advertising that you can get delivered to you.

I'm kinda weirded out by anyone wanting that.

    • well…catalogues are made to be thrown away.
fridge magnets are made to be stuck on your fridge to maybe hang up your catalogues?

some ppl might find it useful

I personally will pass this as i've already got plenty of magnets, but it's a freebie delivered. What freebie isn't marketing? Can't really compare it to a supermarket catalogue… just doesn't line up. Also bob has a good point.

    • Agree. We get lots of fridge magnets from estate agents and the likes already as it is.
Oops, I incorrectly NEG-ed (-) this and I'm unable to undo it. Sorry.

But more importantly, I've looked up their website and I'm sceptical of their claim that
"95-98% (by weight) will be fully recycled for future use".

Where is the proof of this and which independent body verifies it?
Why isn't this important information prominently displayed on the website for the environmentally conscientious users?

After all, how are we to know if we're not PAYING for the waste to be picked up only for most of it to be dumped in a landfill?
Don't get me wrong. I would gladly applaud at what ewaste do if it's been verified that they contribute significantly towards environmental conservation. The customers' testimonies on the website mean nothing if all that they saw was an ewaste truck arriving on schedule with a helpful crew. Read them for yourselves and you will see what I mean.

      • you can revoke your own negative.

Visit the Votes tab. Next to your vote, I think there's a grey circle.
Click on that and it will revoke your vote.

        • Thanks. Are you referring to the 'votes' tab next to the 'reply' and 'report' tabs under each comment? Mine only shows other peoples' votes but no grey circle. Perhaps it's an option only for Moderators?

      • But more importantly, I’ve looked up their website and I’m sceptical of their claim that
“95-98% (by weight) will be fully recycled for future use”.

Well if you look at something like a CRT nearly all of the weight is the glass which can be reused.

There isnt much now that we have an issue re using.

Any plastic can be heated and melted down to make other products (railway stays are big in the USA)

jims plumbling gives me out a free fridge magnet everytime he comes down to my place. So is this a bargain as well?

    • -3

why are you asking a question on OzBargain that only affects people who use "Jims Plumbing" roflcopter. That is totally irrelevant to this offer.

  • +4

Thanks, but I've got too many fridge magnets as it is, so I think I will abstain from using up more fuel (however little) to mail this magnet to me.

You can collect them for the kids. Stick nice stickers on them, cut them out and you have free magnets for the kids. What we do is have pictures of fruit on the recyled magnets, stick them on the fridge, when we don't have that fruit/vegie in the fridge we move the magnet to the side.

I need a fridge magnet to tell me where to dispose of my fridge ;-)

    • Another satisfied Fisher & Paykel owner I see! My 2 year old, 1600 odd dollar upside down POS sounds like Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang! :(

Conversely, my 20+ year old Westinghouse in the shed just keeps powering on, complete with near 100% ablative shielding of assorted fridge magnets! ;)

I'd normally go for this, but I think I have enough of the beasties…I wonder if 1800ewaste will dispose of my excess fridge magnets for me? :p

at first I thought what kind of people would frequent a service like this, but then, having just got rid of my big 68cm tv for a lcd, I was lucky someone was willing to take it as I dont think a charity would be willing to take such a heavy piece of equipment even if it made them a small amount of money (ironically had a sore back for a few days myself)

I wonder if they have tried to get a little display on retail counters for this, I still wouldnt want to post for this, but I might take one, if i was purchasing something I would be replacing at home.

I'm not at all confused about people wanting the service, just that getting advertising from a company that performs this service is "free".

    • sorry, i accidentally neg-ed you..

my local fish & chips shop has FREE fridge magnets too !!! should i post here ???

    • local isn't very useful to us is it now? and they don't deliver? that's pathetic :), heaps of stores have magnets for free in store. we're talking about a free delivered freebie irrelevant of how useful it may be, just like any other freebie offered on OzB :)

      • +2

i might be biased as i posted this freebie. but what cripto said is really true. i dont think he deserves the neg for his comment, hence i +ived it.

this freebie is actually sent to your home. if you posted your local one, only ppl who actually live in that area can get it…not very useful for the other 20 or so million of us?

  • Good thanks
