I am glad I got the 1070 already for $500ish and missed the 1080 deals… else I would have ended up with a 1080 having spent much more than I wanted too!

    • -1

      to*

      • Actually, the funny thing about this English language is that either would have been correct given this sentence. Using "too" here says that he would have ended up with a 1080 and also spent more than he wanted.

        • +1

Except if that's what Baa meant, they should've worded it differently. As it stands, they're saying that if they hadn't bought the 1070, they would have bought a 1080, and subsequently to that purchase, the 1080 would be spending Baa's money. Somehow.

As we don't live in a world which has sentient (or near-sentient) video cards which are capable of spending their owner's money, too doesn't make sense. ;)

    • +3

Nah, you should have bought this one.

    • Got a 1070 yesterday for $590 :/ Wish this had come out yesterday…

      • +1

Probs bought our 1070's from the same place then! If I hadn't also bought a pair of $600 headphones yesterday it may have been a different story.

  • I notice they're based in NZ - how's shipping time from there to WA I wonder.

  • +1

    Must resist. I am strong.

    • +9

this is ozbargain. resistance is futile.

      • -2

your having issues resisting a 778 dollar graphics card?!?!

its easy… look at the 778 dollars… you could pretty much buy a ps4 AND xbone for that price!

        (or many other useful items…)

too much dollars not enough sense…:D :P

(I know its a good card, but man $$$$ - very hard to justify.)

I get the feeling my OzBargain approved 2500k would bottleneck this.

    • was thinking the same thing lol

    • +1

you'd be surprised, 2500k with like an OC to 4ghz is on par with the i5/7 quads of this generation

    • +1

I didn't think things had improved much since the 2500k… My guess is it wouldn't hurt your performance that much, especially if overclocked.

    • +1

Have this exact card and a 2500k, only notice bottling when left stock. At 4.2 GHz my fps are close to benchmarks, though expectedly lower because of slower RAM and older CPU.

  • Won't be long before it goes to $699. Another 20% off on a group deal before Christmas, most likely.

    • I think @ $699 with free shipping I will jump ship and upgrade the PC. Right now, everything plays perfectly fine and there isn't any compelling reason to upgrade :(

      • VR is pretty compelling.

        • As someone who hasn't tried a VR game but interested, there seems to be no amazing game just yet. Most of them seem to be pretty cool but they'd probably get boring after a little bit.

        • @JohJoh:

Get yourself down to a Harvey Norman store and ask for a demo.

        • @AdrianW: Harvey Norman store here doesn't have any VR demo :/

        • @doodo477: They don't even have enough stocks to fulfill pre-order. How to they demo…. Looks like they only ordered in a few and most of the shipment go straight to JB HiFi.

Whelp, bought this for $1250 3 months ago. Definitely worth the price.

    • That's a lot of money to pay for a graphics card!

      • +2

        I only do it yearly.

        • Yes… an experience i may fantasize about from time to time. One day.

  • +2

I just ordered one - and in my haste I totally forgot to paste the promo code onto the checkout page. :(

I've sent them a query via ebay - hopefully they'll respond quickly.

    • I guess I'm screwed - it's already after 5pm in NZ. And ebay queries say to expect a response within 1 to 2 business days.

      <:-I

      • +1

Hopefully they can still give you the discount, since you wrote to them when the deal was still active.

        • +1

Awesome - they got back to me pretty quickly. I'd asked them to cancel the order, which they did.

I then ordered again - it's really easy to miss the coupon code field. On ebay's checkout page, the first option is to select PayPal or Credit Card. Clicking the PayPal radio button brings up the PayPal overlay to take payment. You have to scroll to the bottom (which is off the screen) to apply the voucher code before clicking PayPal.

@AdrianW: Good stuff mate. Happy for ya :)

        • +1

          @AdrianW: Nice one :)

  • What's the deal with warranty from these guys? If it's from NZ does that mean we're taking a gamble?

  • Do purchases from NZ get hit with CC conversion fees?

    • If you're paying in a foreign currency, and your card charges foreign conversion fees, then yes. A New Zealand Dollar is as foreign a currency as a Russian Ruble.

      • +2

I'm with ANZ - NZ to AU fees shouldn't really apply with a bank name like that ;)

    • No currency conversion fees were applied.

  • Still holding out for a $500 1070. I fear if I get a 1080 and feel the need to upgrade my monitor

    • Well, yeah….
It's like getting an expensive turbo upgrade for your car's engine, then forgetting to change the tyres :\

  • Anyone got a shipping notice yet?

    • Have sent a couple of messages for no response and no shipping yet either.

    • Yep - got mine last night. Shipping number doesn't appear to work though -but then that could be the old "Here's the shipping number, wait a couple of days for it to show up" trick.

    • +1

I sent them a message via ebay and eventually received a reply and ebay is now showing a tracking number.

Auspost shows "Your parcel is coming" which is the very first step even before "we've got it".

    • According to Aus Post - it's being delivered today (I'm in WA). :)

      • My tracking number still doesn't work. I'm in VIC.

    • It did arrive today - shipping was from NSW not NZ.
