Being software, there's always going to be a free or cheaper alternative (the desperate may even resort to piracy). People must see value in what they're paying for, otherwise the ISVs won't stay viable for long. You know what they say about those who know the price of everything and the value of nothing..

Always free and consume very little system resource http://getgreenshot.org/.
I got rid of SnagIt many years ago.

    • I've never had a problem with Snagit, and find it very easy to use.

But you can't beat FREE. Thanks for the Greenshot tip.

    • Read the comment above :-) No suggestions encouraged :-)

  • If all you need is screen clipping, Onenote does a great job and is free…

I use snagit at work and at home. I find it reliable and easy to use and also good for doing screen recording. There are free tools out there but the ones I tested are limited to screen capture, others gave a free trial but then I have to pay for advance features. Personally I thought Snagit should have lowered their price as competition is tough.
