  • I bought it with the 10% discount

Any idea how to get the extra discount

    • You could try sending them a eBay message to cancel the order. I did that last time with a Chromecast 2. It wasn't a very smooth experience - I didn't get a reply first so I sent another message the day after and got a reply saying they would pass on the cancellation to the store (it was a click and collect). Didn't hear anything so emailed the store 2 days after that and was told that it was cancelled and the refund would come through in 2-3 days. So in all, it took me a week to get refunded.

      • thanks for the tip.

      • I did exactly this, their ebay rep responded very quickly, and forwarded my cancellation request to the store. I then received a sales cancellation order docket from the store with the full refund amount stated. All this happened within 24 hours over 2 days.

I reordered a Moto Z Play after all that, saving another $70. Very happy with their service. Only thing left is to wait for the refund to hit PayPal.

        • That's pretty good. Besides the delayed response to my eBay cancellation request, I didn't get a cancellation confirmation at all so had to contact the store myself. Just felt that it could have been handled better and you've confirmed that it is possible for that to happen!

Based on my 2014 Motorola Nexus 6 having had the offical release for some weeks now maybe?. :-p

    • +1

Nexus is a different kettle of fish!

      • It's also out for many Sony phones, and was also on the late unlamented Samsung Fireball… This does look a nice phone tho - the first Motorola to trump my Nexus. It comes with a better camera, USB "C" [quicker charging], faster graphics, radio and sd slot. Still, I've got the tendon-destroying 6" and the 1440 x 2560 screen if I ever want to look at it through a magnifying glass.
A worthy successor indeed for Motorola fans.

What's with all the garbage 5.5" phones these days?

Nobody wants to make 5" phones anymore?

    • +1

seem the only decent 5' are google pixel and iPhone which are both $1000+ or you have to downgrade to Moto g4 or colese/woolies crap $100 phone

      • moto g4 play isnt that great though

    • We may have passed peak-screensize.
      Last year's Moto-X flagship model was 5.7".

    • +1

There are still 5-5.3" phones around - Galaxy S7, HTC 10, LG G5. Phone manufacturers have gotten slightly better with screen sizes, some of these models are similar in dimensions to previous year models but have an extra 0.1 or 0.2".

    HTC 10 with 5.2"?

    • yep

  • How do you know when this deal is active ? does the eBay site change their daily banner

Good phone I can certainly 101% vouch for it. Battery performance even beats my 4100mah oppo r7 plus despite this phone comes with smaller battery package.

  • +1

A great phone, I picked one up from Amazon UK a few weeks back for about this price but this model will be dual SIM. So far it's been great and not really put a foot wrong, a good upgrade from my nexus 5. And the biggest selling point is the battery life, I use my phone a lot and my old one barely lasted past lunch time, this thing easily surpasses a full day, I tend to top up in the evening with about a 15 minute charge just in case and then fully recharge the next night and it's not come close to running out of power. If battery is what you need most this is definitely worth a shot.

The moto Z and moto Z force already have android 7, us play owners are still waiting unfortunately.

  • will Harvey Norman price match this one? they have this model. I have never done a price match ever.. so asking, pardon my ignorance

    • +1

They won't price match it as it's an eBay code, not an advertised offer by The Good guys.

  • What's the performance like compared to flagship SD820/A530 specs? I don't really game so I'm assuming this would be fine for me for that next couple of years?

    • +2

I can't compare as I don't have a flagship, but I use mine for everything except gaming and so far it's had no problems or slowdowns that werent the apps fault. I don't think most people need the power in the SD820/821 but just want it. The extra battery capacity and lower power draw from the SD625 is a killer combination and far outweighed the extra power I wanted but don't need. Over a few years the only spec I think may eventually hinder it is the ram, apps seem to want more and more so 3gb is fine now but who knows if it will be in 2 years.

Cheers dude. Looking at Reddit and people seem to like it save for a few minor gripes.

        • Pretty concise review from what I've researched tonight, comparing the Z play with it's big brother Z, for anyone interested.

Also Flossy Carter's reviews are always interesting, shout outs to Xerxes on deck.

          @Jorkus:
I read a lot of reviews before buying it and kept changing my mind between the Z play and the Z, generally the only flaw I could find with either was the lack of headphone socket in the Z, most actually recommended the play over the Z if you don't game as the performance difference is apparently negligible but the battery gains and savings are big.

I do like the idea of the mods but the execution here is terrible, they are expensive and you can't buy them anywhere, even motorola hasn't got stock of half of them. Now I've been running the play I've lost interest in the battery mod I was tempted to buy as I don't really need it, the amount I actually need to charge this thing I'm content with a regular usb battery pack for those rare instances. The soundboost and camera mods are a nice idea but I'd rather have the cheaper better Bluetooth speaker or camera, and the projector is again a nice idea but the low resolution makes me wonder why anyone would bother. A wireless charging backplate would be nice though and that I would buy.

        • @Everettpsycho: Yeah i took at look at the Moto Mods and just thought "gimmick, i'm not gonna use any of those," Unless they create something truly innovative. The rest of the package looks good and i ordered one.

        • @Jorkus:
The rumoured car dock looks good, docks to the phone like a mod attachment so should mean no wires or messing about with connections in the car. I'd be interested in one at home for docking to a TV or stereo simply if it wasn't too expensive, in theory they could use it to copy the old asus fonepad idea or dock your phone to a monitor and keyboard to use as a computer like the old motorolas used to.

The issue I have with them is cost and ability, if the camera was great I'd be tempted, but all the reviews of the Hasselblad say it's ok, good for a phone but rubbish compared to a cheaper point and shoot. The sound boost is the same, nice idea but more expensive than a Bluetooth speaker that outperforms it. Plus there's no contingency, if I spend $120 on a battery pack that only works with the moto Z then Motorola ditch the line it's useless, a $50 USB one would be future proof for all phones at less than half the cost.

        • @Everettpsycho: Where did you hear/read about this rumoured car dock for Moto Z series?

        • @Everettpsycho: The Z doesn't have a headphone socket?? I assume the Z Play can still be used for music playback?

        • +1

          @PowerPants:
That's right, it does come with a USB c to 3.5mm adapter in the box though, when it's that thin I can understand why there is no headphone socket. They are all standard android phones so music playback definitely works on the play. As far as I know all the Moto z lines work with all the mods.

  • +1

One important thing to note here is that this comes with Dual-SIM AND micro-SD card support. None of the hybrid slot crap.

One of the rare phones (moto G4 is the only other one I know of) which supports this without hacking about with the hardware.
