Hey, today isn't april fools. It's basically a terminal, not even a netbook

  • Crap Specifications but great for children. It's much more worth it than those childish children laptops that you get for $100+ at the large stores like Myer, Target, Kmart etc. Could be used to teach kids how to start using computers early on without having to risk much $$$

  • I'm negging this, it hasnt really got enough power to do anything. My asus 701 has double the cpu speed, 16 times more ram, and 2 times bigger hdd and only just runs xp. The only thing you could really use this for is for a linux based firewall… if you bought a usb ethernet key. but even then there are better alternatives.
    sorry

  • I don'tknow about others, but $40 seems a bit steep for postage.

  • pretty good nearly as good as my Pentium 3!

why not pay a little more for a usable netbook?

but then, if you're buying netbook
why not pay a little more for a usable notebook(C2D)?

  • Not a bargain.
    $40 for shipping???
Had played around with one of these before. Pretty useless for most people.

The only ones who would find this of any use would be hobbyist Linux/BSD power users (who like to optimise things to get the most out of the very underpowered hardware).

If you'd like to teach kids on how to use computers, perhaps a cheap netbook would be a better alternative (this thing runs Windows CE, which is pretty much dead to begin with).

    300mhz CPU? 128mb RAM?

Man I've seen mobile phones with better specs than this.

I think this isn't a netbook. There are now devices out that are meant to run Windows CE or Windows Mobile.

I think this is one of them.

I'm not savvy with the new versions of Windows Mobile. Problems with Windows CE included that you had to get Windows CE programs (not programs meant for 2000, XP, 98, ME, Vista or 7), Windows CE drivers (if they existed) etc.

If you installed Windows Mobile on this device, the price is way lower than XP and later software and I think this is a high spec device for a Windows Mobile machine.

But unless you are a tech hobbyist, you probably don't want to mess with it.

Windows Mobile - you can browse the internet, maybe do basic emailing and basic office work (possibly forget things like Macros, advanced Spreadsheet tools etc) but in the old days, with Windows CE, you had to be mindful that you were limited in what peripherals you could use.

  • i lol'd at 300mhz cpu and specs
sorry, i think this would struggle with flash.

    • Would it work with, say, a Canon camera's software, to extract photos off the camera and onto a portable harddrive?

I'm wondering if it could be used, say to bring overseas … without much worry about it being stolen.

But I'm thinking that 300 MHz would struggle with XP, let alone displaying hi res pictures.

No, XP does not run very well on a computer with 300mhz with 128mb ram.
I've had to sit through an XP system patch (SP1 I believe) on a computer with 300mhz and 256mb ram before and it took more than 3hrs.

We sat there playing Mario Kart on Gamecube while it chugged along.
    I dont recommend it.
