Ryobi One+ Line Trimmer/Blower/4Ah/Fast Charger Kit $199 @ Bunnings Warehouse [Carrum Downs, VIC - Aus Wide?)

210

I couldn't find this on the Bunnings site, so may be too new or just this store.

http://www.ryobi.com.au/products/details/18v-one-blower-line…

Basically you get the line trimmer w/ battery and charger, and the blower is free (based on pricing of the skins).

  • I'm pretty sure I saw this today in SA also.

    • Also in the ACT.

  • +1

I bought this exact deal around 3 years ago. I have since bought a few other skins, all using the same original battery and it works well.

Recommend upgrading the spool to thicker type and this line trimmer is good for a metro garden but I feel it's a little on the weak side. Ego 56v is better but double the price and you don't even get a blower.

    • +1

Which thickness nylon are you using and does the autofeed still work with the thicker nylon?

      • +1

I am using 2mm but I find it always gets stuck inside the head. I am going to try 1.5mm next. Note that 2mm is the max thickness for Ryobi One+ heads.

Ryobi one+ line trimmer/blower/4Ah/fast charger kit $199 - Bunnings Carrum Downs (Vic), maybe all?

Haha what a terribly formatted title :P

    Thanks for the post though!

    • Didn't realise this was oz grammar

      • -1

It's not at all but there's a reason there are guidelines around titles and how they should be written.

        • I see nothing about my title that does not meet the title guidelines.

          Clear, concise, price and location.

Do you disagree with my use of slash as opposed to comma or &?

        • @grb1234:

Maybe in hindsight I am being a bit more anal than simply the guidelines suggest. But I think when you posted this deal, it would've given you a suggestion of how to entitle it (with the first letter of every first word capitalised - which I do not necessarily agree with).

I would prob have had it something like that ..

Ryobi One+ Line Trimmer/Blower/4Ah/Fast Charger Kit $19 - Bunnings Carrum Downs (VIC - maybe all states?)

But sorry I don't mean to criticise at all. Don't take it the wrong way :)

If anything I appreciate the simple fact that you've gone out and made a post, despite the fact that this deal is of no interest to me.

        • @illumination: Fair enough… Infrequent poster so doesn't yet come naturally. :)

        • @illumination:

Wow, probably the most anal comment I've read on oz grammar…

          Oops, I mean ozbargain

        • +1

          @csingh:
          Ozanal?

        • @csingh:

Are you suggesting that titles, descriptions, or comments, if intended to assist don't matter?

I acknowledged the analness myself anyway lol. You say it as if I'm not aware.

Must be a Pauline Hanson voter.

        • -1

@illumination: And yet this title would still be wrong. $19? I think Bunnings would like the other $180 you just short changed them.
But sorry I don't mean to criticise at all. Don't take it the wrong way.

        • @therealoptimus: It's ok. I'll cover the difference for every Ozbargainer.

Take a printed copy of this comment in. This is a signed contract.

It'll hold its own in court too ;)

        • @illumination: Gets called out for wrongly calling someone else out and gets all sulky. Will illumination be ok?

        • @therealoptimus: Wait what? You perceive this as being sulky? I'm trying to be light hearted about it.

I could always just run away and stop commenting, but I thought I'd play along.

  • This sounds pretty good. Anyone have a good idea where i could get some discounted bunnings gift cards to buy this with?

  • This is an older kit, the newer kits have a 5.0Ah battery. Check the date codes on the battery.

  • Just looking at the Bunnings website you can get the skin for $109 https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-305mm-cut-cordless… or the line trimmer kit without blower for $149 https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-1-5ah-li-ion-cordl…

Seeing as I don't really need a blower I'm more inclined to just get the kit for $149

    • +1

That kit only has a 1.5Ah battery

      • +1

Exactly, I already have the line trimmer and my 2.5Ah battery lasts around 30 mins before getting too weak to be useful.

        • I see, thanks for the heads up. So best to grab the one with 5aH battery? Can't see it online must be a store only thing?

        • @tassieeagle: I believe so, as I couldn't find it on the Bunnings site, either.

If I'm just doing a quick run around the yard the 2.5Ah is fine (and a bit lighter). It's only when I need to attack a bunch of weeds as well as the lawn edges that it runs out of steam.

        • +1

          @grb1234:

I have the 5A and it's great. I did all my edging and trimming and it was still going strong, even when attacking the tough runner weeds which the trimmer takes ages to cut through. I haven't managed to run mine out of juice yet, so pretty happy with the bigger amp version

Just went to the Maroochydore store Qld, they are selling them for $229 , I showed them the ozbargain (vic) price of $199
after a bit of haggling and telling them to phone the Carrum Down store ( which they didnt) I got them to price match and got 10% off as well , so paid $179.10 !!!

    Thanks OP.

    • +3

Well done mate, pardon me for want of telling you how to vote, but perhaps a + for the op who pointed out the deal to you would be a nice show of appreciation

    • Awesome :)

    • +1

Amazed that Bunnings take 10% off when they price match their own store lol.

  • saw this deal in thornleigh, nsw

  • Are these the same ones they had on special earlier this year for $90?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/228660

    • +2

No that $90 kit came with the 5.0Ah battery. It's the best deal there's ever been so far on one+ range.

  • +1

Are these the same ones they had on special earlier this year for $90?

    No, nothing like it.

This deal is for a Ryobi One+ Line Trimmer/Blower/4Ah/Fast Charger Kit $199

    The other deal was for

Blower Kit with 5Ah battery and regular charger or
Hedge Trimmer Kit with 1.5Ah battery and regular charger or
Line Trimmer Kit with 1.5Ah battery and regular charger for $90.

For those following the One+ range, I saw the new model Ryobi 18v lawnmower today at Bunnings and it's priced at $329 (previously it was $399).
It's obviously not for large lawns but I reckon if you had small suburban lawn and already had other stuff in the range it would be a good deal. It's got a nice big handle in the middle and is quite light - I could easily lift it with one hand and carry it, much easier up and down stairs than my petrol beast!

    • Yeah I saw them too but it's only 18v and the last ones were actually 36v (2x 18v batteries), I've been keeping an eye out for the old ones on gumtree as I need it a little stronger and 36v should do but I don't want to have to go and buy the 36v battery when I already have several 18v batteries.

      • I had the same dilemma. Called a bunch of outer suburban stores, some had none left others had lots.

I ended up paying 300 for the display 2x 18V. Very happy with it.

      • Is the new 18V mower brushless though? The older 2x18V one isn't.
I converted my bosch brushless 36V mower to run on 2x one+ packs, after the Bosch 36V pack died.

        • Just checked Ryobi website and it says "Motor Type: Brushed" - But I think hardly anything they do is brushless.
Cool, I have never thought about doing a conversion to run another brand on One+ batteries. Is it relatively simple to do?

        • @leTintin:
Yeah I just butchered two spare one+ chargers and strapped them to the mower. Its totally reversible. I made a post with photo on ocau…
          http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showpost.php?p=17082078&po…

I've also converted our rowenta 18V nicad vacuum cleaner to one+, in that case I used a one+ torch strapped to it.

        • @leTintin:

They do have a 36V brushless one -

          http://www.ryobi.com.au/products/details/36v-brushless-lawn-…

But mark-emark was referring to a 2x18V one, so perhaps this 36V is a different model? I'm new to this cordless game!

  • I'm seeing a lot more 36 volt pieces coming out, so could the 18 volt Ryobi be for the "runout" sales?

Always at the back of my mind that in the next year or two that trying to get a new 18 volt battery will become an even more expensive move…. meaning I will be throwing out yet even more perfectly good drills etc. (But still have a 30 year old corded drill)

Anybody seen any comment from the manufacturers or Bunnings of this world on how long 18v will be around?

    • They aren't going to make 36V hand tools like drills etc. So the 18V format should be around for a long time, like it already has. Its been 10 years since I bought my first nicad one+ tool, and its still running strong on the latest one+ lithium packs.

If anything, id expect their 36V range to discontinue. They already make a 2x 18V one+ lawnmower, that uses 2 18V packs instead of the big 36V pack.

      • So is the 36V line the older line? I popped into bunnings and don't think I saw a 2x 18V mower in there

    • Surely 18v will be around for a long while as you don't need 36v for a lot of smaller tools. There is probably room for the two product lines anyway, just like Toyota has the Corolla and Camry for different needs etc etc.
I wouldn't be worrying about batteries not being available a year or two away, Ryobi one of the safer bets as sold worldwide in large numbers, I can't imagine them leaving thousands of customers high and dry. Even if Ryobi stopped making them there will be compatible aftermarket batteries, currently there are hundreds on Ebay.

  • This looks like the 4Ah kit that was selling at $229 since August. It was on the website until about a month ago but has now been removed so I'd assume it is being discontinued.

  • Could have been leftover promo stock from Father's day?

  • This deal is expired. The store in question quotes $229.
I tried to price match at 3 bunnings in SA and they all told me to take a hike!
