      Sound fishy to me

      Hope she wasn't (jail) bait!

    • +1

Heard this for the first time, but amused :-)

    • Not become crab?

  • +1

    Is it made in Vietnam?

    • It's "responsibily sourced"

      • +10

You have to put your own sauce on I think.

        • +1

          Chili.

    • +2

They're made in Thailand. I've bought them previously from Costco but don't any longer.

      • +3

        Same same.

        • +6

          But indifferent.

        • @scrimshaw:

          Good one 😊

      • why not? is it because they are made in thailand?

        • +2

Yes, I no longer purchase seafood with Vietnam or Thailand as the origin.

        • @carlenet: I see…fair enough. it puts me off too :)

    • +2

watch this scary stuff re prawns sent to my inbox.

      • +2

yea seen that before that's why I dont buy prawns from vietnam/thailand anymore…

      • +1

omg that goey stuff.. its the exact texture of the gyoza!

  • +13

I think it was 1kg bag before

    • Costco sells them in a 1kg bag.

      • They used to sell 1.5kg bags.

        • +1

Why can't they just increase the price as opposed to shrinking the amount?

        • +10

@iSamurai: Normies (non-OzBargainers) are probably more likely to notice an increase in price, rather than a small decrease in volume.

Also if there's any backlash, these companies can always use the excuse of 'doing it for our health', in terms of portion control etc etc.. then turn around a year or two later with a "share pack!" size with a bit more than was contained in the original sized packets to begin with, with an inflated price too, cos "share pack! yay!"

        • +3

@iSamurai: The price hasn't increase by much actually.
It used to be 1kg bags for $20, and sale price of $10.
Now it's 750g bags for $16, and sale price of $8.

        • +1

@bsmksg: This!! 20% reduction in price & 25% reduction in Weight.

      • The ones I got from Costco a few days ago are in a 1.2 kg bag.

    • +6

It was $10/1kg half price before so Coles has become more greedy.

    • +1

That is what I thought too! This packaging means it is more expensive.
But boy, are they good. I was having it for dinner last few nights.
Still have 1 pack left from last buy.

    • +1

      Never seen 750 g before.

allprices has Coles listed at $16 for 1 kg. http://allprices.com.au/kailis-bros-kb-prawn-gyoza/
Coles online has them 1 kg for 17.60 https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-national/product/kailis-bros-k…

So I guess Coles are right - before you had to spend $16 if you wanted HB Gyoza, now you have to spend only $8.

      Hmmm….

  • +7

From where. If it's Australian they'll use a large font. From elsewhere it'll be a tiny font at the end of something unrelated, maybe under a flap of plastic if its from China (!)

  • +1

What percentage is protein (ie prawns)?

    • +3

Says 60% is filling on the package, with 45% of the filling being prawns.

      • Using math, that totals 105%.

        • +5

Prawns and protein aren't mutually exclusive 😊

        • +2

          60x45=27%

        • +3

Really!? 40% is the casing and 60% is filling equaling 100%. 45% of the 60% filling is prawn. Simple maths really.

        • -1

          Um, I see math is not your strong suit…..Prawn % = 0.45 x 0.6 x 100 = 27%

      • 35% Prawn meat then?

        • 0.45 * 0.6 = 0.27
          27%

  • From a Japanese recipe using the freshest ingredients! According to the website 😊

  • +4

You can buy Australian made dumplings in Chinese/'Asian' supermarkets.

    • I buy the hakka ones - the asian stores sell them 3 packs for around $10 (each pack is around 450g I think). BARGAIN! And the quality is pretty decent too (and at least you know it's made here :) )

      • -1

Used to love frozen dumpling until reading the.fat content.

  • +12

This is one of the better tasting gyoza out there so i would recommend it.

  • +5

More frozen crap with questionable content

    • +2

      Yum!

    • I'd rather shell out $8 than pay an antenna and a leg for an uropod.

  • +2

These are the best, great snack to throw in the micronwave.

    • +11

How many microns do you normally give it?

      • 90 seconds usually just be sure to add water.

        • +5

So they can live a little longer?

    • -1

Steam them would be healthier and better than microwave.

      • +5

Newsflash: it is possible to steam in a microwave.

      • Could you please explain this further?

I mean I understand how steaming would be healthier than frying, but microwaving? Don't people typically just throw them into the microwave with a bit of water to essentially 'steam' it in a rapid fashion?

        • He might be referring to the radiation from the microwave.

        • A similar method to steaming over flame/heat. Use a microwave-safe container with an elevated base and add a bit of water underneath. I couldn't find an Aussie store selling the one I use, but here's a link anyway.

        • @BensonP: Please provide a link to back up this statement that microwaved food has radiation.

        • +6

@28Degrees: To be fair, everything 'has' radiation. You and I emit radiation. Food does. Everything on the planet does :P

        • +1

          @28Degrees:

I was just pointing out that congngo COULD HAVE been referring to radiation. Not myself.

You better check yo self before you wreck yo self!

        • -5

@BensonP: relax guys. Not telling you how to live your life. It's your life :)
Just saying that the human body isn't designed to be eating microwaved food long term. It's biology.

        • +1

@congngo: Please provide some evidence to back this up.

        • -4

@28Degrees: Read it in some Chinese medical journal. Don't think I still have it.

      • Not great steaming on bamboo - gyoza stick.

        • +2

So you do what the yumcha restaurants do - put them on a layer of baking paper laced with holes (I pierce with scissor-tips after putting the paper onto the bamboo steamer, to ensure that the steam's able to get through the bamboo gaps)

        • +2

We put layer of lettuce to stop it from sticking.

        • I used to use the baking paper method, but it takes a bit of effort. Now I just use spray on oil on the bamboo. Works a treat.

    • +2

I bake them. Love the crunch.

  • +13

Did you hear about the prawn that went to a nightclub?

    He caught crabs.

    • +2

The guy with a mullet caught more crabs I heard

  • It's cheap at Yuen's @ Sunnybank, different brand though.

  • Bought this last time didn't taste that great worse than average Asian groceries stores

  • King's Bishop Prawn?

    • Kevin Bartlett's

    • Check mateπŸ˜‚

      • Gamba gambit

  • Had these before, they are not bad.

    • +1

      So you weren't unimpressed?

      • +1

LOL exactly! Being frozen food and I got them cheap from Costco naturally I didn't expect much. They were easy to cook and tasted decent. Also they didn't break easily so they were not bad at all! ;)

  • +1

What cooking level do i need to have, to be able to cook these?

    • Most everyday normal people should be fine, no training needed.

    • +3

      Over 9000.

    • +5

To me this is a delicacy, ambrosia that has slowly descended from culinary Heaven with a fanfare of angels playing harps and trumpets while god rays shine upon the masses below.

It so good that it is said that the god of Wine Dionysus, in a drunken stupor, stole it from Zeus's freezer while they were having a housewarming party and Zeus was so mad he reduced him to smoldering ashes.

    • +4

Its not the best, but better than most.

  • +2

A nice dipping sauce can be made from soy sauce, chili sauce, vinegar (apple cider, white, or sushi works well), and a bit of sesame oil. Adjust quantities to taste. Yum!

  • +1

Not healthy, contains too much palm oil.

  • Too much salt

  • +1

I gonna buy a new fridge to store them! thx for sharing!

  • 1 year ago catalogue 1/2 price $9.50/kg pack then $10. Now $8 for 750g pack.

    Good marketing coles.

    • +1

Next year, 650g size for $7 and all new 1kg family pack, only $12.50! ;)

    • Cost of living has increased. Wages increased, amex offers increased.!

      • Could have used Amex small shops offer in the Asian grocery store inside Westfield = free dumplings.

  • +2

This morning I noticed I still had some KB's Salt and Pepper Squid left in the freezer from the last deal so I just cooked it up and it's so good! So I thought I'd search for KB's on OB and struck gold, on sale again!!!!

    • +1

Same here, had the squid yesterday. But not sure if this time, it is just the gyoza on sale. Or the whole range including the squid. Will find out tomorrow.

      • +1

Last time I'm pretty sure the catalog only listed the gyoza, but when I went down the squid was also on special. Going off the comments at the time it seemed like there were plenty of Coles that didn't stock the squid.

        • Coles Bentleigh (VIC) had a sign in the freezer today saying Salt and Pepper Squid for $8, but there was only prawn gyozas in there where the squid should have been. This was a freezer at the end of the aisle, I'm pretty sure it's for display and there's another freezer further down the aisle with more stock. Plenty of gyoza at 10am Weds.

  • +1

Only vegetable gyoza at Westfield parramatta.. Damn..

    • the same in world square and metro branches.
