    great, just got one for my folks as a spare Aldi phone. Easy to unlock for $2-3 on ebay. Even if the phone is crap, $9 is good for the charger and free Uber ride.

    • free Uber ride?

      • +1

        Well sort of. $25 credit towards your 'first' ride. The rest is up to you :)

    • yes please explain how on the free uber

      • +1

        Use WESTPAC25 when you register for uber to get 25 off.

        • @gimme: you can always call a cab.. does anyone remember how to do that on a phone?

    • Plse post link tried one site they couldnt do it gave money back many thanks in advance

    • Love to know the link. I bought one the other day and no one on ebay could unlock, so it went back

      • Someone linked this seller last time: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321747695369?_trksid=p2060353.m14…
        Supposted to be able to (have not tried myself)

        • Thanks - but that was the one I tried (kevinLow), and they came back saying imei wasn't in their database. They did refund the GBP

        • +1

          @RockyRaccoon:
          Oh right. There may be delay between newly manufactured phones and the database info. T126 is specifically the Telstra variant afaik.BTW these only have 850mhz 3g, so will only really work with Telstra,Telstra resellers and Vodaphone in some areas.
          No good for anything on the Optus networks.IE unlocking may be of limited value

        • I was ssuccessful with these guys for a ytelstra branded cruise i bought from auspost 2 mmonths ago

    Presumably still can get 5GB free data?

    • From Telstra website

      Get 5GB Bonus Data when you activate on Telstra Pre-Paid Plus™
      All for use in Australia within 14 days when you activate before 11 January 2017. Recharge $30+ before the 14 day expiry period and any unused data will then roll over and expire at the end of the next 28 day period.

  • Picked one up today. Was looking for a toy phone for a child but its cheaper to buy a real phone with credit it seems :)

    • +7

      Until the child dials 000

      • +2

        its free to call 000, I promise.

        • +2

          Yes it is free to call 000, but when an ambulance arrives at your house it won't be free :p

        • +1

          @edfoo: play dead

        • +2

          @tonsta: Still going to cost you ambulance fee when you "resurrect" :)

  • Can anyone provide a link as to where to buy an unlock for the phone? Cheers :)

    I have been using this phone for last few months (next to an iPhone to compare reception). Strangely been around many locations in WA but have recently been unable to connect to Telstra at all. Popper in various other SIM's during a recent trip to Asia and did not get any reception either.

    I'm hoping it's just me; but ever since Telstra turned off their 2G frequencies I had been running into multiple issues with this phone

    • +2

      did you turn on 3g?

    • +2

      http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/mobile_phone_frequencies

      3G bands

      850MHz (B5) – Telstra, Vodafone
      900MHz (B8) – Optus, Vodafone –
      2100MHz (B1) – Telstra, Optus, Vodafone

      Phone only support 850MHZ, while not using other spectrum so coverage wont be that good?

      • Hi guys,

        Sorry, my bad! It was on manual band selection (not automatic) as a legacy from my recent holidays. Set it back to Auto it and it was good with Telstra. I tried an overseas SIM which somehow managed to connect onto Optus strangely

        Thanks for the feedback

  • Just picked up one from HN blackout sale 9$. The 10$ credit goes very fast even on sms. Need a spare as dropped Letv phone ,clipped corner and phone wants to recover and no access to pc to store data as no external memory faculties. Thanks for unlock connection.

    My son's went through a full cycle in the washing machine . I turned it off pulled the back off and let it dry overnight . It still lives .
    For $9 I probably should of just bought another but this is Ozbargain .

  • It's a shame Telstra online only sell these to people who drive cars or who have been overseas recently.

    What % of the population drives a car or has been overseas recently? Would it be so hard to just include an age identification card for verification? ffs Telstra.

    • funny thing is you'll have to go through all that crap when you activate your sim as well (where you can use medicare). Completely redundant rubbish. You can buy the same thing at the post office with no ID check!! Security for the sake of it that achieves nothing (other than filling up potentially compromisable databases with personal info)

    • Have you tried to enter your age ID card details instead of a driver licence details? They usually have the same number and are issued by the same authority.

  • Tried to unlock mine and they came back and said it could not be unlocked by pin but had to be connected to a computer with certain software

    • wish I'd seen this before I bought it :/

  • Same deal available at harvey norman

    Has anyone actually unlock their phone yet ?

    • Search for "Almost All ZTE Unlock Code ZTE Maven Z812 Locked to AT&T Network all" on eBay.

      Generally, unlockers who only ask for IMEI & phone model are unlikely to be successful for most. You need an unlocker who asks for IMEI, ph. model, & current network.

    • Same, I would like to know if anyone has actually unlocked their phone yet.

  • It can't be unlocked by pin, the unlocker company or person physically has to have the phone to plug into their computer - This is what I was informed by several unlockers it can't be carried out remotely just by pin alone

    • +1
      • How did you put the pin in? When I insert a different sim nothing even comes up

        • +1

          No need to put the SIM in.

          Just turn the phone on

          Key in 983865625# >>> It'll prompt you for a code

          enter the 16 digit code

          That's it - Unlocked!

          (The above instructions were included with the code from the ebay seller)

        • @gimme:

          Thanks, but I think your phone might be different to mine. I can't even enter that code fully. I either type in the first 8 or so digits, and it does nothing except flash 'emergency call only!' or I hit * first to open a command line, and still get nothing when I type it in. The only code that works so far is the *#06# to bring up IMEI information

        • +1

          @outlander:

          bloody website is removing asterisks

          A983A865625#
          A=ASTERISK

          I'm 99% sure the above would work.

        • @gimme:

          Hahaha nah, you didn't do anything wrong. I should have realized that ozbargain changes any text between stars to italics

          So, its star-983865625-hash?

        • +1

          @outlander:

          star - 983 - star - 865625# (NO SPACES)

        • @gimme:

          Hey, look at that it does work! Thanks gimme you are a champ

          Now I just need to find a place to get the unlock code (ebay failed me)

        • @outlander:

          I must be really lucky. The ebay seller above came through twice for me. One purchased from Auspost and one directly from Telstra during this deal. I only provided model and IMEI

        • +1

          @outlander: Search for "Almost All ZTE Unlock Code ZTE Maven Z812 Locked to AT&T Network all" on eBay. That's the unlocker you want. The eBay seller linked in this thread was who I originally tried too and got a failed attempt.

        • @lamprey:

          Thank you!! Between you and gimme, I managed to get this phone unlocked.

  • Was it locked to Telstra ?

    • Yes, it was a Telstra phone I grabbed from Auspost.

  • Just got my 2nd phone. Arrived in a giant bag. Unlocked within 2hrs for $2.29 from ebay!
