A single or multiplayer game. Enjoy!

  • Is it a limited time free or free forever? Don't want to download it right now

U can "buy" it on Steam but choose not to download until u r ready to.

    • Considering it was just released I'm gonna say it will free forever.

I am surprised to see this posted, since it's always been free. Hopefully people don't start posting every new free game.

      • Pretty sure it was only released today…

        • Yes, that is what I said.

@grimreeper: "I am surprised to see this posted, since it’s always been free"

I think that's what Broden was replying to.. you don't usually say that when the game was released today.. that's all

  • Anyone tried before ? Sounds more like a training sim than a game.

How does that matter. The fact that he is willing to inform others at ozbargain is all that is important.

  • I've been waiting for NASA to release this.

  • can't seem to add it to my account and download later…

    • Agreed. Hope it stays free as I can only see the download button in Steam and I don't want to download it now (Just add it to my account).

      • Start downloading, pause, continue downloading when ready?

        • Pauses but doesn't get added to account games (sits in game library as a paused download - only useful to continue download later). Wouldn't work to reinstall at a future date on a different PC/reimaged PC. Hopefully will remain free though.

  • Add it to your account and just pause the download…

  • This game doesn't look that exciting. Might be a good way to kill time though.

It's a free game from the outset, but with the added annoyance of only being downloadable via Steam.

Getting pretty loose with the definition of freebie here. Can we post about other free game releases? What about software in general? Can I create a "freebie" post for Firefox 4 when that comes out?

For those who are a bit late to the Steam party here is a list of free games and mods that you can get via Steam:

      Overview: http://www.nasa.gov/offices/education/programs/national/ltp/…

You also get to collect rocks while watching China launch their space missions and then return home after NASA gets budget cuts due to the GFC ;-)

      • funny ;)

I wonder if the game is moddable. Would be cool if it ran the Unreal Tournament 3 engine, which is highly moddable. Could add guns to it!

Add lasers and label it Moonraker.

It runs on the UT3 engine. It's actually pretty fun.

Can we confirm that it is indeed ALWAYS BEEN FREE?

The guideline is here on the wiki

So basically it is only considered a bargain if it is only free for a limited time.

  • 1gb is way too much bandwidth to me, to waste on a game that is more than likely, average

    • You might be able to use a mirror that your ISP considers free traffic?

      • It doesn't appear to be on any Aussie Steam servers, so it's most likely not free traffic for anyone.

Luckily this is an aussie forum with not too many international viewers. Otherwise they would laugh at a comment like this. Can't believe it's 2010 and we are still conservative on downloading 1GB of data.

      • i dont think im the only one in the world that shares a isp with a family and almost always uses the download limit each month

My post was not directed to you but rather Australia on the whole. Our broadband network is just 10 years behind compared to others. Hopefully NBN will fix this.

  • FYI, there's also an article about it in the age:

I assumed it was going to be always free when I read this, but who knows…

I downloaded 1GIG from OS as no local steam content.

This game was childishly amusing for 30mins.

Really aimed at primary school kids if you ask me.

Remote control some Rover around, and "weld" up broken circuits, with 'MS Paint' aerosol can.

    Save yourself 1gig.

For free cant complain, but it looks like Grade 6 to me.

Might have been better if they didn't cut the NASA budget ;-) Now if you got to shoot some aliens…

    • @nowlan: Is there something fundamentally wrong with the game? Do you really feel it deserves a negative just because you don't like it?
