Amazon Prime Video for INR 499/Year (~10 AUD) for The First Year and INR 999/Year (~20 AUD) after

170

Okay, this is my second post on the same topic ( original Post ). So I should say this upfront - I have never used Amazon Prime Video and I don't know what all are available in the US version.

I was comparing the plans and noticed that Amazon India offers the prime video as a part of the Amazon Prime membership service. In India, Prime is offered for Rs. 499/year (~10 AUD) for the first year and Rs. 999/year (~20 AUD) after that. The content covers whatever we have in Australia (I might be wrong in this since I did not spend too much time on this) + some Indian movies.

The downside? home page shows a lot of Bollywood movies. But I guess I can live with it for that price. Signed up for a 30 day trial and I am able to access content via the iOS app without a VPN.

I wonder if it's like Netflix in that regardless of whichever country you sign up for, you get the content for whichever country you're viewing from (or appear to be)?

Doesn't look like. It is still loading Indian content for me

  • Do you have prime enabled when you log into amazon.com or is it locale specific?

    • +1

Looks like it is region specific. When I go to https://amazon.com/prime, it prompts me to start my free trial even though I signed up for the trial in amazon India

  • Have you tried using any kind of DNS proxy or VPN?

    • That's what I'm thinking. If you have Getflix you can choose your Amazon Prime region. Ah, no. It says on the Getflix site you need a subscription for each region you want to use. So you're stuck with Indian (for better or worse).

    Great deal. Thanks

  • Does this give access to all the prime stuff? Like music and kindle books?

  • So how do you do it? I registered for Amazon prime India - but then I have to sign up for the Amazon prime video trial as well?

I see the same us Price for Amazon video of 3USD per month

Or do I need to do this whilst using a VPN for India?

I'm an idiot it worked fine when I just signed in

  • Anyone know if there are any sites with a complete list of catalog titles(like all the Netflix ones)? ALso, does anyone know if there is a Amazon Prime app for Sony TV?

    • My 2015 non Android Sony TV has an app.

I use Getflix, change my Sony region to US, refresh internet content and then it shows.

Picture quality is not as nice as Netflix, Hulu etc.

  • not much movies in the amazon.in price videos.. i just signed up for a trail to see, i dont know if its the same case for amazon us

No Chromecast support = no deal

    • +1

Yup. Till Bezos sorts out his little spat with Google I got on interest in Prime.

Same goes with Apple TV when will streaming services learn that it's just as much about the Apps as it is the content

    • What no chromecast support??? open with chrome browser and cast, I just did

  • So a yearly amazon prime membership in India is 499 rupees and this membership includes the prime video correct?

  • OP, does this auto-renew or auto-cancel after the 30 day free trial?

    • Not sure. I am planning to cancel manually before 30 days.

  • Not as good as US less than 10 Indian moves and some Hollywood stuff

  • Does this offer include The Grand Tour ?

    • +1

Yes. Because it's Amazon's own content it's available worldwide.

I have a free trial of Amazon UK Prime.

They have a list of show that is available worldwide. ("abroad")
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/storefront/ref=atv_hm_hom_…

Everything else is geoblocked. I assume India is similar.

    • Wow - that's not a lot. About 9 adult programs & 13 kids programs!

      • Thats just the highlights. CLick on "TV shows" to see what you can get.

        • I don't think so. Can you find anything that is not geoblocked thats not in the 9+13 list?

So my 30 day trial ended, and I figured for $10 why not sign up for a year. It seems like you need an Indian issued cc though :(

    • Same here. Anyway not much to watch.

As an update to this I was able to buy an Amazon.in gift card from these guys: http://www.giftcardsindia.in. Was a nervous 3 day wait (why does it take 3 days to issue an e-gift card?!) Anyway it showed up in my email today and I used it to pay for a years Amazon Prime India. So yeah, the 500rs voucher cost $10.18. I know it doesn't have a huge amount of content, but for $0.85 a month it's not bad :)
