Your title is very misleading, reads as $3/6 months, not $3*6 Months.

    • My bad. Fixed it

      • +17

whilst you're fixing. it's trial not trail although your path is to a bargain

    • +10

Agreed. I signed up and did not get a free trail. I was hoping for a good one too, like somewhere around the Grand Canyon.

      • +10

I received an Oregon Trail. I died of dysentry though :(

  • +3

how does this compare to netflix ?

    • +7

Crap catalogue. Offline viewing is excellent.
I had it as part of Prime. In the 12mths I had it, I couldn't find anything I wanted to watch.

      • +2

Clearly you haven't watched Goliath or the man in the high castle then! Two of the best shows I've watched in a long time. And now with the grand tour as well. But overall the Netflix catalogue is definitely better.

        • +1

The man in the high castle too - S02 starts this weekend

        • People are saying The Man in the High Castle isn't available in Australia. Aussies get screwed again :(

[edit] But other people are saying it's working for them? Weird…

        • I just loaded up the Aus app on my tv and Goliath doesn't show up anywhere or in the search results.

      • +1

Now you can find The Grand Tour

    • -1

Aside from the poor selection of content, isn't the main problem that a lot of content, you only can watch a few episodes at a time, then they expire as new episodes come out? Like some iView shows?

So you can't watch any of the series they do have unless you happen to catch the window of the first few eps are showing…?

      • +1

I have not experienced that with any show. Think you are thinking of Hulu.

        • Ah, OK.

Is Amazon the one where it's hard to find what's available to watch, then? The included shows are mixed in with ones you have to pay extra money to rent?

  • Anyone know if I can use a uk Amazon gift card to redeem this?

  • +1

Is this the new Australian access they were talking about? We're streaming from the american servers and not having a different movie/tv listing like netflix does for us?

    • +1

Launched in Australia. Looks like the pricing is still in USD

      • -1

they are still restricting access to content, especially the good shows

        see my comment below.

  • +4

    there is still restrictions

The Man in the High Castle

This video isn't available due to geographical licensing restrictions. For more details, please refer to Amazon Video Terms of Use. For further assistance, please contact Amazon Customer Service at www.amazon.com/videohelp and refer to error 4601.

    • +3

Bloody hell thats one of the shows I was planning to sign up for.

      • +19

        Piracy wins again.

        • +16

sshh… We dont talk about piracy club.

        • +1

          @vlahka:
          1st rule!

        • +1

          @Qmar:

I thought it was the 2nd rule… I have poor short term memory though

        • @lozza6:

2nd rule is the same as the 1st rule!

        • But optus blocked access to TPB!
          /s

    • Have you tried again? it let's me watch.

    • +6

So they show The Man in the High Castle on the AU website as one of the teasers for buying into Primevideo… but it's not actually available in Oz? Seriously weird. Bait n Switch at its um, prime.

(As an aside I watched TMITHC through other means when it first came out… found it really dull after the first couple of eps. But that might just be me)

      • (As an aside I watched TMITHC through other means when it first came out… found it really dull after the first couple of eps. But that might just be me)

It's not just you. I stopped watching after a few episodes as well.

      • Yeah the first couple of episodes were really good. But it gradually went down after that. Could have been so much more

    • That show works for me. I only have SD as an option though, no HD :|

    • Definitely worked for me on the Android App.

    • It definitely is available. Probably an error on your end. Try clearing your cache?

    • Works fine here.

      You may have PEBKAC

    • The link in your subscription is for US clients only and is expensive.
Aus one is primevideo.com and for international customers only with video viewing.

  • +4

Does it have Grant Tour? If yes, I am sold!

    • +35

Nope, but it does have The Grand Tour.

      • +6

Damn you typo! Take my upvote

      • +2

That's a shame, Grant does the best tours.

    • GT is available.

    • LOL

    • Ah yes the bureaucratic story
of an lands office clerks journey from
Milan to Minsk . Granto Granto.

  • Just signed up but not much content available so will cancel before 7 days is over. I might think of renewing in a few month's when i hope the catalogue has been added to.

  • +5

Worth just for The Grand Tour alone ;)

  • +1

Just checked out the content…pretty light on. Cancelling subscription now.

  • +1

    Poo content.

  • +2

Wow,i count only 7 Amazon originals. So much is missing. :/

  • +4

Can anyone post a list/screenshot of what's available please? Might have to binge on a trial when I have 7 days for full gluttony. :)

I hate this model of doing things i.e you sign up without knowing what you're actually buying. Netflix started that way but at least had enough content to make it worth hanging in there. As we've seen re High Castle, you don't necessarily get what it says on the tin.

  • i have the US version. the catalogue is absolutely crap. i wouldnt pay $1 for it if it weren't for the other prime benefits.

    • +4

What benefits does prime have in Australia? I can't seem to find much info at all

      • +1

im not sure tbh. the us version has unlimited cloud storage for photos, kindle library, amazon music etc

  • Doing the trial to check out GT - downloaded the Amazon video app for PS4 (US store) looks bloody fantastic on an OLED.

  • Yeeees! My free trial was about to run out but now I can keep watching 3 middle aged men fall over

  • +1

    What's the movie selection like?

  • Is the app available in the Australian store yet? Can you airplay to an apple tv? If you can is it offloaded correctly ie is the phone still usable while playing the video.

    • +1

The app is available on the Australian store and there seems to be airplay capability but I have no idea about the offloading though.

      • +1

AirPlay with The Grand Tour was absolutely horrible for me on an Apple TV 4. HD picture, sure, but it kept skipping frames, skipping audio, and the audio was about 5 seconds out of sync. I actually had to download the PS3 app to be able to watch on my TV without having my brain fried ;)

        • Yes so appalling is the airplay ability I would think it deliberate on Amazon's part. Why it decided as a strategy to not do an separate Apple TV app is beyond me. I won't go beyond the trial.

  • Does this include 2 day shipping?

  • Great deal, had not renewed my Amazon subscription, too much just for the video. If you use Getflix like I do then you can stream all the Amazon video content in a web browser.

  • Be warned, the quality of the streaming can be very variable. It seems a choice of Amazon as The Grand Tour looks fantastic, always in perfect quality, but some other shows deteriorate to blotchy sub,sub SD quality - almost like very bad CCTV.

  • +1

Thanks OP, hope they release the PS4 app, will check soon or ill get it from my USA PSN

  • Are the in HD and also 4K HDR?

How is the quality compared to netflix streaming?

    • HD is available for all platforms (download quality is only SD for iOS)
The UHD streaming is only available for the newer models of Samsung and LG apps

      • Ok thanks. So no UHD for Xbox one S?

        • Don't think there is an app for that. I have updated the post with link to the supported devices page.

        • @snowcold: There actually is an Xbox One app (as well as apps for PS3 and PS4) but for whatever reason, Amazon has decided they're not going to support them in Australia. They can be gotten from the US app stores using the usual workarounds - though I'm not sure if they'll work with an Australian Prime account (I am on the US trial still, so can't test that).

        • @NeonKitten:
I can confirm that the Amazon Video app for PS4 as downloaded from the US PSN store works with an Australian Prime Video account.

  • Do they have the new yorker content?

  • The compatibility link in title doesn't mention Chromecast will work?

    • +2

Wow, that's pretty rubbish. A quick google showed that casting a chrome browser tab, or casting your Android device screen, were the suggested workarounds. Both are a hassle, and the quality is just not as good as native chromecast support (e.g. Lag), in my experience.

I get that Amazon want everyone to buy a fire stick instead, but the clear lesson from the streaming video services is that to succeed you need a large library + excellent native apps for every viewing platform. Instead they've got a minuscule library + no chromecast support! I don't get it, struggling to see the deal here.

      • Yea. Not interested in their offering if can't Chromecast. Plus Stan has some of their best originals anyway, Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle

  • I have a subscription to the US Amazon Prime (shipping) service and I was able to access Prime Videos through Getflix. Anyone know if I'd be able to use Prime Video now in Australia without and DNS unblocker service?

    • You can use it in Australia but there is alot less content, stick with Getflix.

  • Can anyone offer any advice on how to get around the geoblock? I've got the app, but every time I try to watch Outlanders I get "not in your location" etc. I've even got American address etc in my details. Thanks.
