    Seems to be some other destinations too.
    Sydney 24th Apr - 8th May, Dallas and LA are $947 return on QANTAS.

    Went there end of August 2015 and weather was stunning. 30c give or take, a little windy some evenings which could make it a little chilly, but the sunshine made it spectacular for sightseeing. Highly recommend it.

      Unlikely as JFK to Aus either goes through LAX/SFO or AUH/DXB, which either requires an extra flight or a different carrier (QF codeshare on EK, but not from the East Coast I don't think).

    I am trying to get a flight from MEL to LA or SF for most of July. 4th to the 28th and cannot get prices under $1600.

      That's peak season, you may not do better than 1600 unless you do some serious stopovers in China etc

      To get email alerts, I find the best site is Adioso. They have a good search function, you don't need to put in exact airports, you can put in states, countries or even continents if you are flexible, and you can also put in a date range. After you put in a search, you can exclude certain airlines, prices, and durations. You can then and them to send you alerts at the top of the page when your search falls below a certain price.

        I was happy paying $999 each direct on Qantas. I know there's probably been/going to be cheaper but sub $1k this far out is good enough for me and gives me time to save for everything else!
