The LG PF1000U is in a class by itself. You might think of it as a portable 80" flat panel TV. It weighs under 5 lbs so you can take it anywhere. It is ultra short throw, so you sit it next to a wall and project high contrast full HD 1080p images up to 100" diagonal. It has a built-in VHF and UHF TV tuner and some smart TV apps like Netflix, VUDU, and YouTube, so plug it in and you're in business with a flat screen TV replacement.

The picture quality is gorgeous when viewing in a dark room if the screen image is not pushed too big. At 60" diagonal it absolutely sparkles, at 80" it solid and engaging, and at 100" it is lower in contrast, but still quite serviceable. We wouldn't push it beyond that. LG is correct to state in the specs that the PF1000U is for images in the 60" to 100" range. And keep in mind when ambient light is introduced the contrast fades noticeably, particularly at the larger screen sizes. If you plan to watch in a room with indirect ambient light or a lot of white, reflective surfaces, you are better off staying in the 60" to 80" range for image size. All projectors look better in the dark, and it is especially true of this one.

I considered projectors a while back and the gradual drop in 4K prices changed my mind as projectors are like my Mrs, they both need a lot of factors to be just right else it doesn't work out :)

Waiting for a decent 75 inch 4K to drop below $2K

    • I was looking for it for while as replacement for TV as it:

      1. LED lamp, long life with less noise.
      2. Short distance on table from wall. No cables across room
      3. Smart TV, Wi-fi

Good reason to choose to have 100 inch screen for about AUD1500 without much hassle.

      • True all that mate. Only issue I have is the walls are painted grey, so the colour may be off and also ambient light or light creeping in makes the experience bad with projectors

        • Most high contrast protection screens are grey.

        • @masuta: That kinda gives me an idea, but the plaster may be another issue.. eitherway it is interesting to know this , ta mate

      • I dont think it has smart tv feature. i believe only the US version has smart tv features.

Have a pair tied to the sides of your head and project into the eyes…
Behold, the uber VR headset! Burn, Samsung and Oculus!

  • Will need a screen with this projector, can't cast to plain plaster wall without getting shadows caused by the texture and sharp short throw angle of this module. I bought the pf1500g (Australia model with 3 year warranty, and 3D) and love it. Works great in my theatre room.

  • just saw it in HN yesterday.

  • Is this price inclusive or exclusive of import tax?

    • Inclusive. As per screenshot Amazon reserved 77.37 GPB for import taxes

      Items - 749.17
      Postage - 24.56

      Import Fee Deposit - 77.37

      Total: 851.10

  • I have one, it is good, very light, but still has fan noise unless you use energy save mode. but over still the best one for this price.

  • Have wanted one of these since watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55la7bJhd04

This is equivalent to an 80 inch 1080p TV. Who in their right mind would buy a screen this size in this low resolution.

Do you yourself a favour buy a 4k Benq, Epson or JVC projector

Better yet get a projector that can at least do 120 inches or bigger to get the true projector experience
