It's 50% off all their xmas lights online so i assume it is instore as well.

  • -5

    Price in title

  • +4

    50% now, or ~80% after Christmas :)

    • My local Target had no solar lights left post Christmas.

  • +1

I just ducked into our local target.

They only had their own brand 240v fairy lights which were not on special, as well as the Mirabella solar range at 20% off.

    • +2

      Did you scan them?

      • Yeah, the price was correct as marked in store.

  • +4

$5 for click and collect… what a joke.

    • +4

Well, I guess you are paying for someone to physically read your request, go find them on the shelves, bag them up and put them somewhere for you to collect. You are paying for someone's time.

      • +4

Yeah, i'm not buying it (or that). :)

        • +1

Just add something else to your order to bring it up to $29 to avoid the fee & return the unwanted item for a refund.

        • @Triple J: Buy 7 sets of lights and then you may see your way clear to ………. 😉 fill in with appropriate comment😉

        • +1

@Kevan2: Kevan2 s door , so i can tell him my joke.Bugger it I'll save money & tell him now…Grasshopper goes into a bar , old man at the bar says to him "do you know you have a drink named after you "? Grasshopper replies "What a Kevan "? (pommy accent )

  • Scanned at 20% off for me in store, had to complain with manager to override.

  • +2

I got told they dont match online prices. Had to leave my fairy lights on the counter :(

    • Same here.. they said Online business is separate

Do not buy solar powered fairy lights from target, bigw, or kmart. The batteries they include are terrible and the cheap solar panels will not charge them for long at all. I bought a bunch of them this season from target, kmart and bunnings this year - the only ones which will hold a charge long enough past dusk to be worthwhile are the bunnings ones.

    • +1

I've got target ones that are 4 years old or more, still going. I bought 6 boxes at lunch time.

      • Might be they've changed suppliers in the last number of years, perhaps

    • Very true, but this is easily fixed by removing the crappy battery they come with and installing an 'Eneloop' battery - mine now last until sunrise…..every Ozbargainer should have a few of these at their disposal

      • That only works if the cheap solar panel & charging circuit supply more than enough enough charge to the battery to keep the lights on all night. So if the manufacturer includes a higher charging circuit than the battery can store - a higher capacity battery will help.
(Can check charging current in mA under full sun with a meter, multiply by available full sun hours at location & time of year, to calculate optimal battery capacity in mAh.)

That is rarely the case as the charging is matched to original battery's low capacity & drain from the lights, to keep costs low. Its not just the battery that limits the time lights remain on.

Of course replacing with a fully charged higher capacity battery, the lights will stay on longer - initially. But as daily recharge is less than discharge, battery will soon flatten & lights will be on for shorter time. Tried this with several solar lights.

But, Eneloops contribute nothing & are a bit of a waste in this use - their primary benefit being low discharge measured in years. Discharge over a day is negligible - with any type of rechargeable battery. Solar lights are designed to charge the battery during the day and discharge overnight. As long as the battery can store the incoming charge (enough capacity), that's all you'll get out of any battery.

All rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charges before deterioration. Each day is 1 of those cycles. So also consider that before wasting dearer batteries. That's a reason why cheap ni-cd batteries are normal in solar lights.

Be careful that battery chemistry & voltage are same as battery being replaced. Some use 3.2V LiFePO4 - with different charging characteristics. I've got a stack of 100 led strings that use those batteries.

Lights remain on longer if drawing less power. Higher efficiency (dearer) leds should drain less & remain on longer for the same light output. Flashing leds draw less than static lights.

It's basic maths, physics & chemistry. Can't get more out than put in - less all those inefficiencies😯

I have just run a HEAP of Solar batteries through my battery analyser. Charge > Discharge > Charge and check internal resistance and capacity.

The (insert almost any brand here) solar lights in the plastic tubs with the flashing/constant mode all seem to use the same 400mAh or 600mAh rated green NiMH AA cells. Some last all night, others (exactly the same) last a couple of hours… well, now I know why.

Out of this year's brand new lights, the record goes to a 600mAh with a total capacity of just 47 mAh. There are a number of others that will never fully charge. The average of the 600mAh batteries is just over 300mAh and the 400mAh ones seem to be cracking about 150mAh.

So the bottom line is that almost ANY battery you put in here is better than what they come with as new.

Eneloops are a bit of an overkill if you went out and purchased them. However this is Ozbargain, so most people have a drawer full already, hence "free batteries". Othewsie, go and get some Aldi LSD or Coles ones - around 2000 mAh rated for just over $1 each…. that's about 1/3 the price of a stock standard 600mAh NiCD or NiMH from Bunnings, etc.

Putting the "correct" batteries in is a total waste of money.

        • @llama:

          Thanks llama!

    • the bunnings ones.

      Are they the same price?

      • +1

        Are they the same price?

All solar lights are about $20 for 200 pack, and reduced to $14 or so at the moment.

I went to Bunnings tonight to see what they had left (not much)..not worth the effort drive there, to be honest. Also checked Woolworths tubs @ $4 are the same product as the Target ones that I grabbed a week or so back.

  • After some mucking around the 250 white and 250 coloured solar were price matched at Target Country.

  • i had no luck price matching these in store. ended up getting the $250 LED for $20.

  • +1

250 LED scanned as $20 instore in Brisbane City . I just showed the guy at the counter the online price and he discounted it to match, no problem.

  • Thanks OP - grabbed a few strings.

  • Please stop listing which stores matched the online price for you. They don't deserve to get told off for doing you a favour.

    • Fair call. In Profile we can check to see if location is recorded. Then if our state or city use start a conversation.

This may stop ✋ ozbargained out helpful stores.

Did not see any lights in (sad) Toowoomba store today. Staff great though.

    • +4

Online price should equal instore price, simple as that. (Or at least mark it 'online only' or something.)

  • The white lights are 'unavailable online' now. Still selling colour

  • The store in Morley WA wasn't willing to match the online price

  • Anyone know if the Target mains powered fairy lights if they are just a okay brightness or super bright ? Im thinking Target, Bigw, and Kmart probably sell the same lights which may not be very bright. I get the feeling bunnings lights might be super bright ones.. Anyone with experience ?

    • All the solar ones are dim, as they run tiny solar cells and tiny batteries. The ones that run off a plug pack transformer are HEAPS brighter.

Im thinking Target, Bigw, and Kmart probably sell the same lights which may not be very bright. I get the feeling bunnings lights might be super bright ones.

They are all basically the same.

      • difference between powered and solar is like night vs day. I've just checked my neighbours mains powered lights. theirs is 5cm separation between lights (probably bunnings ones), the one I have which is probably the same as target ones is about 7.5 or 8 cm separation between lights. Mine look a little more dimmer. hmm I wonder how it would look like if I do two runs and lights together.. ha!

        • I just ran a 200 light mains powered along the front of the house using gutter clips. About 2m too long to do it "twice".

So, I ended up leaving one hand span of droop between every second clip, then clipped then up in between.

It looks a lot better with 2 runs over the top of each other.

        • @llama: Yeah my thoughts exactly. These lights best to do two runs together (500 lights), or get the bunnings lights (300 lights) they are okay for one run..

  • +1

It's practically usesless , not to OP, but to target as they have this ridiculous 2 pricing policies between online and In store that are wasting customers time or ozbargainers time. The store can't sell it based on online prices and you can't buy it as its unavailable online ???? What a joke .

    • +1

yep, ridiculous way of running things. online and instore are both "target", should have consistent pricing between two… glad i saw all the comments here and didn't waste my time going instore to buy

  • +1

FYI - I went to Bunnings Cannington WA and they've reduced nearly all their Xmas lights by 50% or more - probably the same story at all their stores now I'd imagine

They had a huge range and plenty stock of pretty much everything. Here are some of the better bargains to be had:
