Seagate Expansion Portable HDD 2TB $99 @ The Good Guys

220

Thought I would post as a deal the process I've documented in the comments of the original TGG Boxing Day deal.

To me this is a deal for those wishing to upgrade the capacity of their PS4 by replacing the internal HDD. In terms of pure storage per dollar value, there are other options (e.g. the 3TB version) however these are not necessarily guaranteed to fit inside the PS4. The 3TB example I linked to is physically too big.

Price is $99 at TGG or price beat at Officeworks (which is what I did) for $94.05. For reference, recent deals for this HDD have been $95.20.

The drive is guaranteed to fit snuggly in the PS4, and if you aren't too rough with the stanley knife, you can put the original PS4 drive back into the casing and use that as a spare portable HDD. I used this video

  • JB HIFI is selling 2TB Backup Plus for $95.2 (20% OFF $119).

    • Nice, from what I've read this is another good option for upgrading PS4 storage.

I can walk to Officeworks but JB and TGG are a drive away so the price beat option was best for me. But yep, thanks for the heads up.

    • Its show $111 on jbhifi website

    • Saw it in store. Southland shopping centre.

  • I'd rather pay $16 more for the 3Tb one from Officeworks

Yup. I pointed that out in the post, but it's not going to work for upgrading PS4 storage unfortunately.

  • Sorry silly question but with a swap of the PS4 is there anything else to be done ie do you need to copy over any of the files/software? Im talking about a brand new PS4 with no games on it yet. Cheers

    • Not a silly question. If you don't need or want to back up any games you've downloaded or saves you've made, then no. Just need to download the latest firmware onto a USB flash drive to install onto the new HDD once you boot up the PlayStation for the first time after changing the HDD. This is explained in most guides you can google, along with a link to where to download it from. =)

          All good, me too really!

  • 2 TB : 103W x 140D x 31H mm
    3 TB : 80W x 117D x 20.9H mm

wouldnt the 3tb fit in the ps4 as well? Just asking coz i bought the 3tb but havent got around to setting it up yet.

    • I don't know from personal experience. I read earlier that it won't. But if you can fit it in, great!! That would make the 3TB awesome value for this purpose.

  • Can you confirm this version works? The newer versions of Backup Plus has the USB connector soldered to the main board, you can't pull it off to reveal the sata connector like previous versions.

    • I used this very model this morning. Can confirm it works - not soldered. Maybe I got an older version though? I don't know if newer ones are soldered.

No idea about the Backup Plus though. No personal experience with it.

Thanks. The 2 TB can go inside the PS4 and the 500gb that comes out of it can expand my 500gb xbone to 1tb :)

  • are there any 3 or 4tb drives that will currenlty fit inside the PS4 and PS4 PRO ?
