I know i am a very bad photographer.

  • That's an amazing deal, I would buy a few KGs and freeze them. my Coles doesn't have this price unfortunately.

    • i bought 1 kg. Lady on the counter said she is surprised at price as well. She did suggest to buy more and freeze it.

      • Yeah I guess it depends how much you like salmon. I eat it twice a week so I would've picked up at least 5KG to last me a few weeks.

This is the best price I've ever seen at least in Australia, I think that's what it cost here many years ago and what they currently sell it for overseas in countries like US, China etc

  • Where is this farmed?

    • Sorry, i didn't ask them and Sign didn't had that information.

    • +1

Coles buys from Tasmania farms, only 2 or 3 of them like Tassal Huon

  • all this information, and you've not asked the u/b date…

    • The lady said it is fresh and can be forzen.

      • -3

I'm not saying it's not a good deal, but i would still ask for the u/b date because some staff at times can be told to tell you that it's fresh and can be frozen to blow you off

        • +1

I don't think the lady was trying to blow off the Op, that would be against store policy.

@28Degrees: you're dreaming if you think staff aren't encouraged to give vague answers to customers so they buy

        • +1

@Tal_Shiar: from personal experience, staff are only encouraged to be helpful, not to make sales. There is no commission and they're paid by the hour.

        • @Tal_Shiar: If anything, deli staff are always told they have to tell the truth, if something is close to use by they will usually say it has to either be eaten today or frozen

        • and if the staff are new and impressionable? just ask for the u/b date, it could not get any easier…

    • +7

As a supermarket staff member in deli/butchery all case products to my knowledge must be sold two days before the useby date, at least at my supermarket chain that is the rule, no exceptions :)

Woah woah woah. There's a place called Hyperdome?!?

    • +2

Tuggeranong Hyperdome in Greenway ACT. Think there's another one somewhere - Logan?

Was $10 at our local, the tag said "Responsibly sourced in the wild" or words to that effect, seemed legit…so between that & the cheap huge local prawns, I currently have cat breath! ;)

Is your local store in victoria by any chance? I would have no hesitation driving for a couple of hours to pick up salmom at that price…i can easily go through 5kg in a few weeks…

      • +1

        No, sorry…Newcastle, NSW area.

Hmmm this or the Basa fillets for the same price…

Did they say how long? If so I might go after work tomorrow!

    • Dont bother wasting your time. The price is back to normal $27 per kilo this morning.

  • +3

That price is ridonkulous. Its usually like $34/kg skinless. I would only expect it to be $11/kg if it still had skin, bones, teeth, eyes, and it was still swimming around the Atlantic, and you had to grab them bare handed. Mad props for the photo too - So Ozbargain.

Live whole Atlantic Salmon? Sign me up!

Not bad price considering I bought a whole 3.2kg fish from Sydney Fish Markets for $18.99 (about $62). Thats with the head, skin and bones (although I cook those to good effect too).

    • This is an epic price less than cost as it has been filleted and skinned.
I would have brodened it if I lived in the area

  • +1

    I love the skin…

  • This is an epic price! It's half the price of what we get from the wholesalers for our shop.I am assuming that they must have overstocked for Christmas and the day of closure probably didn't help.

The fact that it is skin off means that the use by date would be significantly shorter.

  • Deal is over. Its back up to $27/kg now

  • The Woolworths at the hyperdome has skinless salmon on clearance for $19.49/kg. - farmed in Tasmania

  • Last year Xmas period Mango Hill Coles had their salmon fillet for $3 per kg. I asked the lady at the counter if it was pricing error and she said someone had over ordered and they were clearing stock. I ended up buying 10kg worth for $30. I wrapped them up individually in cling wrap and freezed them. The best deal Ive had for a long time.
