Surely I can't be the only one who wondered since when Domayne was a laptop manufacturer for a second

"A LED-backlit LCD screen with a 1366 x 768 resolution for this Acer laptop helps display your documents and other files with high clarity."

    really now?

    • Maybe it has HDMI out?

  • Seems a decent laptop for the price. Been hunting around for a decent home laptop, i5 or i7 and the specs on this seem great for the money.

I'm not all that techy though. Anyone think this is not a good pc or that there are better deals to be had in this price range (up to about $700)?

      This has better build quality.

Toshibas haven't had decent build quality in quite a few years now.

I hope your having a lend

        I5 V I7
        500GB HDD V 1GB
        4GB ram V 8GB
        Windows 7 V Windows 10

Even if it was better build quality. It's nearly 2017 not 2008

    • Keep in mind that processor and laptop are 3-4 years old

    • If you can push your budget a bit, this is a great deal with a FHD display and a Kaby Lake i5.

      • Yep - been following that thread and am now comtemplating that one or the Good guys one that thread mentions too

    • I've had my Acer Aspire i7 laptop for 6 years or more and its fantastic! Never had a problem with it.
If I was looking for a new laptop I would get this one :)

    • how would you compare this to LENOVO at JB HI FI

  • great first post my friend!

Friends, It's such a shame that 1366 x 768 still remains a resolution in this day and age. Sure it can be called "fine" but it's hard to go to such a low resolution once you are used to better.

  • would this run Civilization 6?

    • If you can put up with 15 ~ 20 fps, yes. otherwise go play it on a desktop PC with a discrete GPU for better performance.

  • 2 usb ports is not enough.

    • Tell that to Apple :)

  • Not your first post

    • first post this year?

    • Yes its his 4th. But he must still be in Christmas mode

It's not full HD, and it's an Acer. I wouldn't buy Acer if it was $5.

  • Spec is great if you look at the price. Only problem is its weight - 2.5kg

  • Should I go for this laptop or the Lenovo in the other post. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284899 ??!!

The i5 7200u is marginally faster, has 1080p screen and a dedicated GPU. It is a better laptop but whether that's worth another $200 is up to you.

      • +1

Sorry for sounding like a noob but the Acer one is i7 .. wouldn't it be faster ?

        • +2

Basically it's comparing a 4th generation (i7 4510u) to a 7th generation (i5 7200u). The i7 in this is nearly 3 years old and a current i5 would easily beat it. I had a quick google and it showed the i5 about 20% faster than the i7. The i7 does have slightly more cache and a higher bus speed but I don't know if that would have any noticeable impact on performance, probably not. Both are dual cores with hyper threading.

          @Yuri Lowell:
That makes a lot of sense thank you for the clarification 😊
