I have one and really suffered from heating and battery drain problems. I think there is something in the system that prevents the phone from sleeping. I tried different methods and finally used Greenify to make it sleep indoor only. Whenever I brought it outdoor, it was very hot and battery was draining fast. I hope Android 7 update in very near future will solve this problem, otherwise I will return it.

    • Weird, I have same phone (32gig/3gig) grey import and haven't had any issues like that in the last 3 months

      • How long does your battery last?

        • +2

I normally charge every night, but can last 2 days

        • You are lucky; have you checked battery uses, especially the "awake" period, to see whether your phone can sleep outdoor or when moving? Mine can last for one day, but the phone is just awake outdoor.

I bought one for the wife for Christmas as part of a previous deal (from DWI eBay for $314 delivered), and it's a fairly decent phone. I haven't experienced any heating issues whilst setting it up and playing with it, and the battery life is decent - I checked it yesterday and after 3hrs 15 mins screen on time (browsing, facebook, and playing videos on the ABC kids app), there was 42% battery remaining. Phone is pretty snappy, but gets a bit laggy/jittery if you have lots of tabs open in chrome (e.g. 15+) and a few other apps open at the same time. For comparison, my Redmi Note 3 soldiers on without any problems.

One thing I've been somewhat disappointed with is the camera. Online reviews are generally positive about the camera, but I find that the Nexus 5X (which I bought a few months ago for the mother in law) is MUCH, MUCH better indoors. It's almost impossible to take a good (non blurry) photo of a moving child indoors with the Moto G4 Plus, whereas the Nexus 5X is brilliant in these situations. Indoor video is also pretty dull with the G4.

The outdoor shots are pretty much the same on both phones, but the G4 Plus records fantastic, super clear video outdoors (one can definitely notice the difference image stabilisation makes).

Even though I had a positive experience with the 5X after buying it for the mother in law, I still went with the G4 Plus as I was a bit spooked by the bootloop issues that the 5X owners are having.

  • I've heard horror stories about their eBay store. I think there's contention as to whether or not it's even associated with their actual webstore?

Maybe look into buying straight from their website rather than eBay.

    edit: this was for DWI

I can't comment on the phone but based on my experience with a warranty claim I would recommend avoiding these shysters. I won't bore you with the whole story but two months after they initially agreed that the phone would be repaired under warranty they told me that it couldn't be repaired and offered me $250 in store credit. This for something I paid over $550 for several months earlier. Not to mention the $50 I footed for returning the phone.

I checked their warranty and it said that they will only give you the current market value of the product or something of equivalent value. But they lowballed me on even this limited warranty - I insisted on at least $350 (the lowest price I could find) but they essentially refused to up their offer. They also mentioned some formula for depreciating the value of the purchased item - the longer time elapses from the date of purchase the less you will get. I had never heard of a depreciating warranty until now.

Avoid. Like. The. Plague. Or pray nothing goes wrong because they will screw you then. I know I will never buy from these bastards again. Or from their affiliate, DWI.

  • Great phone bought one for my son as he has 2 Sims. Bought mine from Kogan.

  • Does it work with 2 4G SIMs (simultaneously)? My Moto G 3rd gen dual SIM only works with 1x 4G SIM now since 2G network closure :(

      This comment should explain it

It is a dual sim 4G-3G handset and it is dual standby, not dual active. I think there is some misunderstanding out there of the terms.

Dual Standby means both sims are active, calls can be received on either SIM.

However, as it is dual standby I cannot receive a call on SIM2 if I am on a call on SIM1. Now, in saying that you can able to set voice priority on SIM2 which is on by default which means the data connection on SIM1 is stopped if active so you can receive a call on SIM2.

Hi Wildwild…according to Whirlpool forum, G4Plus is one of the phone capable of having SIM 1 as 4G and SIM2 as 3G.

      http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones

      • Hi Mantoh … The Moto G 3rd gen (and also Moto E 2nd gen) was dual standby and Motorola "told" me that it was 4G and 3G capable on the 2 SIM slots but it turned out that they "lied" about that capability. It only supports 4G in 1 slot and the other slot reverts to 2G (which is now DEAD).

Thanks for the link to the dual SIM phones for the next purchase. I only need a basic dual SIM phone without the bells and whistles :)

        • This is the Moto G4, so it's the 4th Gen.

Also, there's some confusion about 4g/3g. In the Moto G3 and E2, both the slots do support 4G/3G…just not at the same time.

The Moto G4, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kate and Kenzo both), Mi5, LG V20 etc support 4G+3G if you want to call it that…one SIM can use data but the other can still use 3G.

Do bear in mind even in that configuration, if you receive a call on one SIM, the other will divert straight to voicemail still.

  • Band 28?

    • +2

Yes it's model XT1642, Australian model.

  • Has anyone managed to get Android Nougat v 7.0 update for the XT1642?

Motorola India has released the OTA Nougat update for XT1643 and the updates look good on youtube.

Also has anyone had the "Ghost Touch" issue with this model when using the Turbo Charger, basically makes the unit unusable when fast charging. It is a common issue in India where the bulk of these are sold. Wondering how painful the process will be for getting it repaired through AU Motorola or going through the grey market importers.

      still havnt got nougat update
yes always experience ghost touch when charging, I think it is related to heat as well as charge, sometime i can use the phone while charging, but if it heats up a bit it starts going nuts until i turn screen off/on
This is a great budget/mid range phone, but i think i use the phone too much.
It also seems to have larger than normal battery drain, but imight just be using it more while im on hols.

  • Shipping kills this deal for me.

*There will be a fixed surcharge of AU$33.9 for remote areas defined by couriers.
    Subtotal:$294.00
    Shipping cost:$58.90
    Order discount:$8.00
    Coupon "GSHOPPING" Delete
    Order Total:$344.90

Hmm never seen that remote area surcharge.

If you are quick you can get it here for $305 delivered with code CDARK or $299 if you are happy with white delivered, free delivery so should be okay there.

      • Thank you very much! I picked up the black one from ebay.
        Cashrewards 1.5% + code -$20 = should bring it down to $300.

checked out the other deal too, on their (DWI) website, Standard Shipping (Regional Remote Areas) cost A$32.90. so shipping from both websites (except ebay) kill the deals for me.

        Thanks again!
