Macquarie Black/Platinum Visa Credit Card - 40,000 QFF - $99 Annual Fee 1st Year

60

Just doing some research to top-up my QFF account and came across these cards. They have good earning $1 = 1 QFF. Personally, I would sign up to the Platinum because less spending to get the bonus points.

    $249 ongoing

thats alot for a card with no real benefits

    • tbh, I will only keep this card for the first year just for the 40,000 QFF. Topping up my QFF for a first class redemption with Emirates with the missus at the end of the year.

$99 for 40K QF points is not bad. Pity you have to deal with Macq, they are a pain.

  • Careful as their approval process is weird and you might get rejected, I had my first ever credit card rejection applying for one or theirs. Every other card I have applied for had no issue in getting approval and my rating was high average at the time I applied for it and had no other debt and so on.

    • Also will reject you (without any notification) if you hold a Jetstar card.

    • Same here. Six other banks gave me credit cards so far, Macquarie were the only ones where I got rejected (after a few weeks) with very doubtful reasons.
I'm not going to try that again.

already holding that card from last year sign up bonus :(

    • i got one of their platinum QFF card now that came with the mortgage, can i get the bonus for getting the Black card? Any idea? Thanks.

  • If is specifically says existing card holders need not apply, so be it. BUT, if it does not mention that sort of T&C, take screen shots because they can't argue that if it's not in the T&Cs.

  • Same deal as last time by the looks….

  • Love the Black card's design

  • I like QFF points as much as the next guy, but this is a pretty crappy 'deal', thanks for sharing though :)

Macquarie is an absolute PTA to deal with. I now just stick to AMEX. I'll repeat my warning around the application process (as posted when this came up last year):

*A warning to people that the application process is incredibly painful (at least for me) as opposed to other cards. Having applied around 3 weeks ago, I was sent an email asking me to send in two payslips via email. Which I did. Since that time, I have received an automated text message each day reminding me that my card is conditionally approved, but that I need to send in my payslips to verify income.

I have also received 3 calls from macquarie's offshore call centre asking me to consent for them to call my HR manager to provide phone confirmation of my income amount. Each time, I've (reluctantly) provided this consent, and they tell me they'll contact my company, then they ring me again! While I've provided consent, and they still haven't even followed up on it, I also find this quite intrusive. Why they can't just ask for copies of bank statements or a notice of assessment is beyond me.

Still not sorted 3 weeks down the track, and I'm tempted to tell them to shove it!

Conclusion: I ended up getting rejected as they claimed they couldn't verify my income after I provided them with permission to contact my payroll!*

Plus the rejection will go against your credit ratings so hence why my warning as well.

      • Yeah Macquarie is definitely a pain to deal with. Had my rejection from them also even though my track record was solid. From what a few people have mentioned is if you're liability is low they don't want to know you. Which is totally the opposite from what other financial institution's assessment.

    • Exactly the same as what happened to me when I applied for a Macquarie card a couple of months ago.
To make it worse, they said I should give my payroll guy permission to talk to them, because he won't answer his phone.
Not sure how consent will change that. And not sure if I should believe that the payroll of a 300+ people company never answers his phone. He always does when I call him.

  • Every card you apply for pretty much guarantees a credit check. It's just that if you make an application and then don't get approved, that is a wasted credit check with no sign on bonus.

  • What does this entail, never seen this before

** meet and greet at over 400 airports around the world**

This is interesting as it doesn't come with an AMEX which is how they're usually able to offer so much points

  • If you are quick you can get on this…. https://www.stgeorge.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards

    • Wouldn't you better off chasing bigger sign on bonus given each application affects your credit score.

      • +1

Well Yes, but compared to the above deal one would think that no annual fee is better for a loss of 10,000 QFF points.

    • And the St George isn't AMEX either. Makes the minimum spend very easy.

Also, after I got this, 2 anz cards and an amex within 2 months my credit score went up to 780 (from 650). Interesting the only credit checks on record were from Amex.

Applying for homeloan next week. We'll see how that works out. I think 780 is OK.
