  • Great price for 525gb. I'm kinda annoyed just bought one for $109 for 275gb 3 days ago, next day $20 eBay coupon came out.

  • damn just bought one of those

  • I am looking to upgrade the hdd in my macmini 2012 to a ssd. Should I get this or buy the Samsung 850 evo. Thanks for the help

    • Honestly the difference would be negligible if it's just for everyday use. Huge improvement if you have a mechanical drive.

    • +2

I just did this upgrade a day ago to my late 2012 i5 mac mini. I went with the 275 GB MX300 SSD, along with a 16 GB ram upgrade.

To be honest, whilst performance is improved, it does not exactly feel zippy.

If you do decide to do the upgrade, make sure you have the torx and hex tools of right sizes in advance to avoid disappointment. Torx T6 and T8, and Hex 2mm.

      • Have you checked that TRIM is working? TRIM is normally not automatically enabled on non-apple SSDs when installed in a Mac. Your drives performance will quickly degrade unless you enable it.

Last Samsung 850 EVO 250GB here for $119(with THANKS20 code) if anyone's after the market leader.

    Here's the head-to-head comparison with Crucial MX300 525GB SSD.

    Good luck! =)

  • Bought the Transcend 480GB Amazon deal last time. How does the Transcend compared to Crucial MX300?

    • +2

Sans the market share, I'd say the Crucial MX300 is marginally better. Nothing to worry about IMO..

      • Thank you. I feel better now, coz I'd always had a preference towards Crucial.

Gargh!! 4hours ago when I ordered it was $178.50 >:(

    • Ask the seller politely for them to cancel the transaction and then buy again with the voucher.

It would work like this: You buy the item again (using voucher), once the seller receives the funds for the second purchase, they cancel the first one and you get the funds back from the first purchase.

      • I have contacted the seller, awaiting reply. The voucher is single use (T&C #5) although I haven't actually tested it.

  • i got one just before xmas for 179…bugger…

wasnt the 750gb deal a short while ago around this price?

    • +1

I'm still regretting not buying it at that price. It was about a month ago I think.

    • That was a crazy deal, wish I realized that I needed one of these back then. It has made my old, old PC feel new again. That size would have been perfect for me.

      • Me too. I was about to buy.
The moment I knew it was the SSD bargain of 2016, t'was all gone!

  • Any m.2 SSD's around the 500gb capacity on sale?

Before I take the plunge on one of these whats the performance of these like?

    • Please refer to comments above, and to a 5 second Google.

      • Woops did not see the comments above and also I need to Google better since I have been googling about this drive for a good 5 mins.

      • +2

Probably doesn't have an SSD, so it probably takes 10 seconds to open a web browser, then another 2 for it to load Google.

        • I have two SSDs 256GB Crucial MX100 and a 850 EVO 250GB both are great. I was just curious of the performance of the MX300 since its a more budget oriented drive.

To everyone asking about this (or any other SSD's) performance, it really doesn't matter unless:

    (1) you run a massive file server where every single IOPS matters and costs you money
    (2) you regularly copy massive files and need an SSD with good MB/s sequential reads/writes

Generally, the takeaway points that you need to know are:

    (1) any SSD is substantially faster than a mechanical hard drive, the differences between SSDs are minute compared to this
    (2) when SSDs were new, I got an Intel X25M, which was very expensive at the time, it's half the performance of today's SSDs and I'm still happy with it
    (3) most SSDs have similar performance and most saturate SATA3 in sequentials

The only horrible SSDs on the market are:

    (1) OCZ Trion 100 and 150 series
    (2) Kingston SSDNow V300 series

Personally, I have an NVMe Samsung 950 PRO which is around three times faster than any SATA3 SSD. I don't feel any difference whatsoever (apart from the fact that it makes me feel good).

Ultimately, SSD speeds are nothing more than a measurement of your e-peen, so don't worry about it and just buy the SSD on sale.

  • Just bought one! Thank you.

  • Will this have Crucial's warranty or just the 12 months warranty from Kogan?

    • The description says that it is authentic Australian stock and comes with an additional manufacturer's warranty. See warranty image

      • Yeah I saw that but was confused when I read their warranty terms. Thanks

I'm suppose to be asleep. Now I'm $132 poorer… Ozbargain ftw

  • Good deal OP. Bought it from Amazon France last time for $134.

  • Perfect timing thanks OP!

  • Just received an email from Kogan saying that they are unable to fulfil my order due to overwhelming demand :(

  • Just got mine this morning, surprised on how quick they sent it.
