Two Xbox 360 Wired Controllers (Preowned) for $12 from EB Games (In Store)

1052

I came across the 'Preowned Buy One Get One Free' sale at EB Games and picked up two preowned wired 360 controllers for $12.

These controllers can also be used for Windows (plug and play) or OSX (with unofficial driver).

    Great price

Preowned? I'd say that picture is not grimey enough to be used as a representation :P

    • +1

Yes I'm not sure I'd want a preowned controller - unless it was previously owned by someone who was OCD about cleaning.

      • +2

YMMV. Mine were in great condition. I think the wired controllers tend to not be used as much.

        • +1

if you're OCD and you should be when it comes to $6 controllers, you should clean then in methylated and perhaps even dismantle them and check for function and cleanliness

remember the type of person who trades in an xbox…

          @tonyjzx:

Dismantle and clean - check and check. ;)

        • +2

          @tonyjzx:

Make sure you check that it works first, you don't wanna go through all that cleaning to see it doesn't work lol

  • Cant even add two of these to cart.

    • In store

    • add it twice to cart instead of selecting 2 from drop down. I have just ordered 2.

  • Only stocked in 4 stores Australia wide?

    • +1

      Try entering your postcode.

  • Stocks of these are few and far between.

Last time I got one of those, my local only had the "Rock Candy" brand - which were surprisingly built well and hasn't skipped a beat.

    • The At-Play branded ones for $23 are quite good as well.

  • +1

Might be tough to find these.

Tried to get one of these last month and called up 6-7 stores that were near me, all of them didn't have stock, even if the websites shows that it does.

  • I just ordered online without issue

    • did you order 1 or 2?

      • Add the second and it's free

      Comes with grime remember?

  • Best deal mate. Ordered from Merrylands store!
    Cheers.

I just set up an old laptop for emulation… this will be great for the kids to destroy on Mario Kart 64 instead of my own :)

  • Nice deal! Bought from Morayfield store with ease. Cheers OP.

    • Ordered it online the night before, got an email this morning saying they didn't have any in stock in store or at their warehouse (QLD). Got a full refund :(

Also check the rubber on the thumbsticks isn't worn down/off. I had mine ware off after alot of use and became uncomfortable to use.

Ended up using a Torx T8 Security Screwdriver to open the controller and replace the thumbsticks with some I got off ebay. Along with some thumbstick cap covers that also work well to prevent the thumbsick rubber from wearing down and extra comfort.

    • +1

And to add to that, disassembly of the controller is fairly easy as there's no soldering or removing of wires required. Also, the cheapest Torx T8 screwdriver on ebay works just fine - mine was $1 delivered from Hong Kong.

At the risk of sounding like a dumb ass, can someone guide me to successfully search for a ps3 preowned controller on the EB website? At least on mobile, "ps3 controller" doesn't have preowned, nor if I just use the filter options (ps3 dept, accessories category, preowned status… Or leaving any those to any).

Similarly I do the same for "xbox360 controller" and I can't have a search result for OPs item.

Not feeling much love for EB's site on many levels…

      • +3

Thanks champ. Categories = Controllers was the key!

BTW I saw ps3 uDraw tablets for $5 (2 for 1), not near me though. Apparently they can be used as a cheapo drawing tablet for PC, if that rocks ya boat.

  • Does it work on PC?

    • +1

Yes, natively. Windows recognises it as a gamepad and an Xbox 360 controller in games.

  • +3

cant even imagine what kind of residue were left on these controllers, might need ultra light to expose it.

  • At least it's better than a used mobile phone, a bit hard to play with a wired controller from on the toilet,

So now I am at their mercy for holding onto my money

    • +2

"So now I am at their mercy for holding onto my money" - It's $12

      • So what if it's $12, it's $12 they are not entitled to and have no reason to hold onto. It could be $120, or $12, it doesn't make it right

        • +1

The point is that the 1-4 days is the general case for refunds by most online retailers. I wouldn't call it you being at their mercy. They're sending you a refund, which will take and industry standard time to be refunded.

I also got the same message. Placed order yesterday at a store that showed as having stock. I have to agree with Land Of The Smeg above. No good taking your money if they cant back it up with the goods.

I called up EB Games in Chirnside Park to check if they had them and put a couple on hold, they did and I arrived soon after to find they'd put new ones aside. They had a look to see if they had wired ones, which they didn't, but they did find they had wireless ones with price stickers for wired controllers on them. They were happy to let me have those instead and although they had $18 on them after seeing the website they put it through for $12.

TLDR: I've ended up with 2 pre-owned wireless controllers for $12.

    • Can I buy one from you? Will pick up~ oh wait, Chirnside Park…

  • +1

Get to the final payment on a few stores and they only tell you then they have run out…

  • I rang my local, looking for Wii controllers. The wii controller is not included as BOGOF, however nunchucks are.

  • Ordered 2 for pickup from Carindale. Took a bit of fiddling to even get the cart to add the second one. First said they had stock at Cannon Hill but after I hit "Confirm" it told me there was no stock. Changed store to Carindale and it went through. Will see if the order goes through to them actually telling me I can pick them up.

    • Got the same order cancellation email as above posters. Oh well.

  • +1

Bought one from Karingal EB amd the guy didn't know of the deal. He ended up giving me a wired controller (newest black model) for 12 but said the buy one get one free deal didn't apply. Feel ripped off.

    • Unsure why I've been negged for reporting back my findings like everyone else…

  • Ordered for pickup on Friday night, usual "No stock" email Sat arvo.

They offered free shipping from Warehouse, but dont they ship from stores now? Either way only options I had was to cancel.

Odds the same will happen with my 2nd attempt…

    • +1

      Took 7 minutes this time.

Then went back and checked, still availble for pickup from that store.

You would think they would update it once they know it is not in store?

  • +3

Hmm interesting.. looks like they've bumped the price up from $12 to $18!https://ebgames.com.au/xbox360-135949-Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-preowned-Xbox-360

    • +1

Yeah, pretty dodgy that they raised the price. Still, I just got two of the 'Rock Candy' versions for $18 (i.e. $9 each) for my PC, so still a pretty good deal.

      • so rock candy controllers are alright? hmm might get a rock candy version :)

        • +1

Yeah, officially licensed etc. I tested them both with Steam games and they work fine (plug and play). In very good condition too. No marks or signs of wear and tear. So I'm happy :)

  • +1

also looks like the numebr of unts has changed from 2 to 1…

  • Is this compatible with Xbox One S?

  • Good outcome here. Ordered online. Rand store after, confirmed stock.

Went to pick them up this Arvo. Manager seemingly tried to dodgy out of it.

Told his staff that it was a reduction from $18 because they "didn't have two in stock" and was an automated online thing. Which is utter crap.

I think he forgot that I'd rung to check stock earlier in the day.

Ended up giving me the two, which is only what was advertised.

Muttered something about not being able to see what it was advertised as. That may be so, but I'd confirmed the deal and the stock earlier, and the "automated adjustment" smells like bullshit.

Either way, an excellent deal, and uncomfortable experience in picking them up. Will be less likely to deal with EB again.

Thank you very much OP, great bargain.

    • +1

When I went in after receiving an email saying my order was ready, I was told that I could only have one as that's all they had in stock as well, and the bonus controller was 'subject to availability'; the staff seemed genuinely confused why I would not be happy with half the product I ordered.

While they processed my refund I was also told that technically I hadn't bought anything yet as the store didn't have the funds only 'head office' did, which is utter crap as from my perspective the store and the website are one and the same, and they already took the funds from my credit card.

So I walked away with a wasted 20 mins and a small likelihood of ever using the EB website again.

      • +1

The only thing EB has over steam and such is customer service. If they can't even get that right, they shouldn't cry poor about rent-less online retailers undercutting them or loss of sales.

        • Yup. I'd never buy a game from them. I can see no benefit to me, unless it's cheaper to justify going there and dealing with them. Hardware is a different story. Got the steam link for $36 the other day from EB, which was great.
