Wow,that's cheap, just make me feel like to go back to VN again, even I just came back there a fortnight ago, love Vietnam :)

  • Good if you can hack the waiting periods and times.

    Going there
SYD-KUL at 4am and then wait 3 hours for connecting flight.

    Coming home
SGN-KUL at 11:30am and wait for 12 hours for connecting flight

Did it once and probably never again. Just so tired afterwards.

    • So you're telling me it's not worth the savings?

Oh well pay for what you get :)

    • Yeah,I agree, that's exactly we get what we pay for :)

    • 4 am KL time is 7 am Sydney time, so take yourself to the food court and enjoy a Malaysian breakfast. Yum!

Not much to be done about the 12 hour wait on the return leg though.

  • are there usually sales to vietnam during the july period? all the sites that I have been on skip promotional flights for this month (school holidays assuming)

    • You just missed the Cathay Pacific sale. I picked up flights in late June and returning late July for $670 (into HCMC and out of Bangkok).
Then again, they're not exactly budget airfares. Real cheap for full service though.

      • dam, should i be expecting any future sales during july or would my best bet be booking asap?

        • That was the question I was asking myself before I booked the Cathay flights. If I were you, I'd wait a couple of months for another sale, and then if nothing comes up book with AirAsia or Scoot to get a relatively cheap price. That said, I was pretty surprised that Cathay's sale ran right through June-August, I haven't seen many others that do.

If you add up the cost of checked-in luggage and meal, it is not that cheap compare to full service airlines sales like MAS, SIA, or Royal Brunei or Cathay Pacific with much better connection time and service.

Airasia is expensive now and I only fly them if I want to travel to many places in Asia and with carry-on only.

You're right, but they are filling a niche of passengers that don't want/need those things. I wish I could travel with carry on only sometimes, would save me $300 every time.

To those warm places, you only need 5kg stuff, plus a laptop bag with all the gadgets weighs more but allowed.
And no need to wait for luggage, what not

    • how much are the ones you are comparing to usually cus this is a pretty good deal.

      • like $570 direct flight with VNAirlines which include 30kg check-in, meal, drink on the plan. This is un-published sale or even Scoot sale few weeks ago. Melb/Syd-SIN $109, return $139 + around $100 return ticket to VN from Singapore.
