  • Is the 4g modem unlocked?

    • -6

      They never come unlocked.

      • please search Huawei E5776

      • I got the Telstra 4G modem last year, and it came unlocked. I was surprised.

    • I brought one about 6 months ago from Woolworths. Was unlocked!

  • -7

Let me clarify my above statement. Anything thats telco branded will come locked to their network. You can get them unlocked by either finding an unlock code online or requesting them to provide an unlock code.

    • +1

They should come locked to network.
IE: Optus Wifi Modem should be locked to Optus

HOWEVER…. Huawei E5776 wifi modem and many more comes out of the box unlocked.

      Hope you understand now

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/264386
      this one was unlocked too

      • Purchased Optus E8372 and Optus E5573 and both were unlocked as reported by many others.
Not all telco branded items are locked.0

Sorry meant to reply to deepansh.

      • Also brought a E5776 which was unlocked

    • Let me clarify… others have done that already.

Anyway I got Optus 4g modem E5573 about a month ago, unlocked.

Groundbreaking 2-day battery from a single charge

    • They Said the same about the E4G. Standard battery life at best. Really disappointed with Sony phones.

      • I've been really happy with my Xperia phones (Z2 and Z3 compact)…. thinking of getting the XA for sure at this price…. as long as it is not locked….

        • Are you sure the XA will be an upgrade over the Z2 and Z3 compact? It has some pretty modest specs.

        • @winterseed: not for me but for my mum… just saying I've been really happy with the Sony headsets…

        • @wippy: Ah, ok. I've survived this long on an Xperia acro S and I'm about to upgrade to an M5. Also set my mum up with an Xperia Z years ago and she keeps telling me how good it is, so Sony is Mum Approved (not that she has much of a frame of reference).

  • I've read that the prepaid Xperia XA phones from Vodafone were originally intended for postpaid and can therefore be unlocked immediately without charge…YMMV
    See http://whrl.pl/ReMDmD

    • Well in that case… looks like I'm buying my daughter a new Xperia XA then, as a screen repair from the only place in the country that does them is at least $190!

    • Hi. Did anybody confirm that Voda will unlock? I asked this on Whirlpool as well, and if there are any chances of picking up one of these Sony XA's, it would be nice to know if there is some flexibility in networks they can work on - such as a local SIM when travelling overseas.

  • How does the MF920V compare to the e5573?

  • Anyone confirm if the XA is dual or single sim?. Vodafone site doesnt seem to have the info….

Is there a better phone considering the price?.

  • How does MF920V compare to E5573?

  • Hmm, why isn't the XA available to look at online?
Just comes up with ; This content failed to load.

    Bit odd.

  • Still Xperia XA not listed. May be removed from the sale??

    • +1

Apparently they haven't received any stock, no stock at all for more than a week now, called 3 stores and all said so

      • Thanks.

      • EOL?. Still listed as prepaid mobile offered on voda website. Wonder what it will be replaced with if it is the case?

    • my target received their stock in last night of xperia xa on the way to pick mine up now.

  • Apparently the XAs are EOL from Vodafone and stores without stock (which appear to be all of them as far as Melbourne goes) will not be receiving any more.

  • +1

Hardly any stock for the wifi modem in QLD. My store in Bundaberg hasn't had any, yet there is a ticket on the shelf for it. None in transit either. Can't order stock and have stock transferred between stores. What a joke

  • Vodafone might still have the XAs for $199…they were also running fairly low. They were meant to be sold on plans but Voda overpriced them and nobody wanted them, so they cleared them out as prepaid handsets…but by that time very few stores had any.

  • can anyone confirm that the Xperia XA is (or can with minimal cost) unlocked?

    • Have you checked back at the WP thread to see if there's a confirmation? I'd like to know, as well…

"I got the Sony XA from Target at the advertised discounted price. Right now it fully unlock using a Telstra sim with no unlocking needed. Though you can grab the unlock code online via Vodafone website"

        • ["you can grab the unlock code online via Vodafone website"]

Yep. I had to do this. Worked fine for me. Took only a second for the code to be supplied.

Entered code and made a call with an Aldi Sim.

        • @Samsquanch:
How's the battery life? Lots of bad review about the battery of this fone only last for 8-10 hrs with just normal web browsing, with bluetooth and network scanning diabled, wifi off when phone is on idle for awhile

Got one hold aside for tomorrow pickup, its 40 mins round trip so want to see if worth going or not

        • +2

          @Datatemp:
I played around with mine for a couple of hours last night, screen on the whole time, lost about 25% which I thought was ok.
However it lost about 30% overnight so may need to adjust some settings, wi-fi would have active as I had not disabled "Keep wi-fi on during sleep", will see how it goes with that disabled.

        • @Blackrose:
Thanks, I gave it a miss

        • @Datatemp:

I didn't get an exact measurement last night but would have lost 5-10% with "keep wifi on during sleep" disabled, will get a better measurement tonight and update for anyone that is interested.
I have used "better wifi on/off" on my previous phones, will try it on this once I finish testing.

I charged the phone yesterday evening used a bit last night and today and currently at 55%, I'm not a heavy user so it's ok for me.

I also disable mobile data when I'm not using it and enable it when I need it.

        • @Blackrose:
Thanks for the update, it would be great to know, much prefer a phone that would definitely last at least one full day with light-medium use for a kid to use since their phone is for emergency calls and some web browsing

        • @Datatemp:

Power was at 47% at midnight when I check this morning at 9am it was at 41%, so it lost 6% in 9 hours while phone was asleep with "keep wifi on during sleep" disabled.

  • are the sony xas unlocked?

  • Yes - locked. But, you can search the Vodafone site for "Unlock" and then enter the IMEI code to get the unlock info and an unlock code.

NOTE: I have yet to enter the code onto a handset, but there is no reason I can see yet why it won't work as the instructions look to match the phone screen when I turned it on. I just need to get back to the phone to do the unlock.

  • Might as well use the free $30 Voda SIM & then unlock after it expires?

I got the unlock code via my own mobile at the Target in Mandurah, WA while I waited to pay. My daughter loves it! It's really nice looking, fast enough, light….

$169 is an amazing price for a newly released phone.

    :)

    • P.S.

They had 5 more this arvo.

      ;)

  • Do we call around to find the sony voda xperia xa at target? I cant find it on their online store? I'm in SA

    • +2

Call Target customer service 1800814788 tell them what item you want & they will locate it for you in your area if it's available.

  • Thanks for posting this. Just grabbed one from Target Mid City on Bourke Street Melbourne. There were 4 left.

  • +1

    Thank you @TRENT86 as well.

After triple j suggestion of calling the target 1800 number then individual stores I tracked a xperia xa in stock. The stores actual stock levels were different than headoffice stated. There were a couple of phones left at reynella sa but none are left at marion sa or edwardswtown sa.

No reviews of phone as just plugged in!

  • +1

Thanks, bought 2 Vodafone Sony Xperia XA with bonus $30 starter kits for $169ea from Target Chermside Brisbane leaving 5 still on the shelf.
These are model F3115 single nano sim. Locked to voda, but only takes a minute to follow the instructions above to get an unlock code & apply.
    Pokemon Go here I come!
Anyone know about cases, screen protectors and battery banks.

  • Got one from Ballarat Target yesterday, about six left when I got mine.
Mine came already unlocked, worked straight away with Telstra sim, no need to get unlock code.
Seems like very nice phone a good upgrade from a Huawei G526.

    • Mine was unlocked already too. Had a march 2016 dated $30 vodafone sim inside

What took me many hours was working out the correct apn settings I needed to get optus internet to work! Waa very frustrating.

I haven't had the battery issue geekomatic reports below

      • +1

        " Had a march 2016 dated $30 vodafone sim inside ".
Isn't the $30 Vodafone sim card "Manufactured March 2016", that is to say it has no expiry date.
I also haven't experienced the battery issue.
Noticed officeworks sells this phone for $269 with no bonus $30 sim kit.
        For $169 - $30kit = $139.
Representing imho a stand out deal.

        • Yes my bad…..

I should have written SIM manufactured March 2016. So it's expiry date free? I was going to look into how long it is valid for.

      • My daughter said the mobile reported needing to update when she first turned it on, so she did— the resulting battery drain is (wish I'd known) a big SONY botch that they refuse to fix.

I've attempted to "repair" the software via their "companion" PC program. We'll see what happens.

Their forums are a joke, telling anyone reporting the issue to basically "turn everything off" & marking that a "solution".

        :P

  • +1

Issues popping up today- first real day of use. Have been on the Sony forums to vent about the draining battery.

My daughter took it today with us to the city. With Stamina mode on, all other stuff off (she's Amaysim- no data)— in a three block walk the battery drained 13%!

On Sony forums? APOLOGISTS for SONY. I typed, "WTH?" & it was modded out! Really?! WTH?!

Suddenly very NOT happy. Not with the OP & deal——> with SONY for not addressing a big issue after advertising great battery life.

    :(

    • Indeed ; I've heard the battery is terrible on this phone.

    • Thanks, I give it a miss. before school start I will look at other budget with a longer battery life for the kid, don't want her to have a flat fone when she has to call

    • Let me state from the beginning I am not trying to defend Sony nor trying to antagonize your situation.
I have not experienced the battery issue myself, but certainly can empathise with you about company IT flaws, poor and restricted communication, coverups and the effect on the customer as well as staff and the Label itself.
For Xmas I purchased my son an unlocked Samsung Galaxy J1 mini for $99, I upgraded him to the Sony XA with this Target deal. I considered the XA a mildly complex phone, but I'm coming from a 5 yr old Galaxy Nexus working custom Android 6.
Wondering what u have decided to do, return it for replacement/refund, persevere and apply all the known workarounds while waiting for Android 7+ ?

      • As stated above, I reinstalled the system. Haven't checked with her yet to see if that helped. Also had her turn off the network scanning, etc…not everything that idiotic forum said to— but what she felt she could do without in the background.

I still cannot believe that they actually marked, "turn just about everything off", as the "solution"! And after 84 pages of people with battery/power issues….This, after advertising a "2 day battery life"??

Btw, when I said that they modded out the "WTH" in my SONY forum reply — it wasn't ONLY that— they actually completely removed the two posts! I find it disgusting that SONY has a forum where they have directed all dissenting posts be deleted. They're a sh*t company (to their musical artists & now consumers with complaints), so I ought not be surprised, I guess.

I just wish I'd read more about this mobile before I bought it.

  • SONY REPS?

    Any here?

  • I'm on pre paid optus sim in this xperia xa phone.
Had to manually add an APN for Mobile data access but adding one for MMS doesn't see it work. I've contacted optus and they've given up now after a couple of hours telling me to take the new phone instore.
By the way sticking the sim back in the old smartphone has mms working straight away.
