If you can find stock in-store there's good opportunities for an extra 5% off at Officeworks.

Update: - most models are online orders only at Officeworks, but I've found several stores around Melbourne that have limited stock of the 15"/256gb/TouchBar - worth having a look.

Update 2: Confirmed - Officeworks Fitzroy , VIC has two of the 15"/256gb/Touchbar/Space Grey in stock now - I gave them a call.

  • Officeworks will not price beat if they don't have stock and all touchbar models are out of stock (11-20 business days)

There is an 'Ultimate Kids Gift card' that sometimes goes on sale at Coles/Woolworths for 10% off - this card can be used at JB-Hifi

      • Roughly once every 6 months?

        • More or less, they were on sale a couple of weeks ago before Christmas

  • Where do you get the discounted JB Hifi cards from? Or have I missed the boat on that one?

    • +3

Buy Wish gift cards at a discount (usually from cashrewards or Groupon), then use this gift card at Woolworths to buy JB HiFi gift cards.

      • I think the maximum denomination for JB Gift Cards at Woolworths is $100…. you may struggle to use 25 x $100 gift cards at JB in the one transaction.

          Challenge Accepted.

I've done it with 30 JB gift cards before. Does take a while to process them individually, but no issues :-).

        • +1

          I've done 76 x $50 cards before when I got mine

@slimdusty: heard jb needs to copy your ID, is that true?

        • @user01: I saw the sign stating this at JB Hi Fi Bourke Street Melbourne yesterday. Apparently it's due to the high amount of gift card fraud…

Edit: I saw this in store only. I think it's not applicable online since they have all your details anyway. So if it's fake/fraudulent gift card they can easily contact you

        • @user01: yes true after a certain amount (around the 400 mark). Apparently there has been some fraud with gift cards

        • @user01: Possibly, but it was over 4 years ago, so I couldn't remember if they did or not. I suppose it wouldn't matter too much if they do, would it?

Entertainment book also has discounted Jb-Hifi gift cards.

I agree that 10% is pretty piss weak. However, this scope of getting discounts from apple usually lies in the 10-15% mark - anything above this requires layers of leverage (such as price-beating, Amex discounts, gift cards or other ways of bringing it down further).
I disagree that most places could do better than 10%; Apple has a reputation of giving limited margins for their product resellers, and that's the nature of their company (unlike Lenovo who, due to their corporate sales, can slash upwards of 50% off their laptops without damaging brand or revenue).

  • Let's see how this goes! Just purchased some egift cards from cashrewards with 5% discount. Hopefully these will be delivered by later this afternoon. Will purchase JB HiFi gift cards with egift card and then a macbook air 13.

    • Well the egift cards arrived by email within 1 hour. Have purchased JB HiFi giftcards from Woolworths. Should not have issues with the rest.

Blatchy's Blues is back up to 7% off for eGiftCards too for subscribers

Just take a student in with you to get 10% off from Apple products or call them or go in store and ask them to price match JB hifi. This isn't a deal

A lot of the time you can get 10% off just by asking

    • +2

Yes, because finding a student is just so convenient…

      • +1

Just leave a trail of Indomie, draws them right in…

    • +2

Student discounts are generally closer to 7%.

Apple Education is not quite 10% off and aren't a flat discount either. Just compare iPad models, sometimes it can be as little as $20 off.

I just purchased a 15" with touch bar from OW with their 5% price beat guarantee and saved a total of $516. Finding a store with stock seemed impossible, but I got the tip after the 3rd store to order it on the phone from 1300 OFFICE (633423). Easy done!

    • -1

      Well done!

    • I did exactly the same the last time JB had 10% off. Order and pay over phone. Free delivery or store pick up. Easy!

  • +1

I just price matched a 13" non TB at Officeworks - last one they had in stock.

  • For any one interested in the 2016 Macbook Pro 13 non touch (2.0GHz CPU), TGG and OW have these advertised at $1978 up until Yesterday (Spent a fair bit of time trying to locate stock in SYD for my brother)

  • Do students get a futher 10% :)

  • +2

Remember that Apple Stores should price match this if you'd rather go to the source or don't want to deal with JB.

    • +1

      For real?

      • +1

apple store price matches up to 10% discount.

      • Yep, I can confirm. I remember on Boxing Day, Officeworks were selling 32gb iPod Touch's for $284 (saving of about 60$) but I was at the city Apple Store and was able to get the 'exclusive' red one for 315$ (10% discount) but im pretty sure had i gotten a diff colour I might have gotten it for the $284.

In hindsight, it was Boxing Day and I'm pretty sure it depends on manager's discretion but it doesn't hurt to show them the deal on your phone.

  • Looks like OW has already adjusted their pricing (at least the MBP with touch bar) to lower than JB's pricing.

  • Does anyone know if there are any way to customise the internals, or are there more choices in store?

As there is only one 15inch model with touchbar on the website, and I was wondering whether there was a 512gb model?

    Thanks :)

In store although note that the 10% discount doesn't apply to custom builds.

I got 7% discount for my custom build this month

      • From jb? How'd you get it?

        • Just asked the store rep. It varies from store to store. might be best to ring up a few stores close-by and check before heading in

      • ah okay thanks, might have to use the education discount then

  • ifrog seems to be cheaper still.
    13" w tb $2,403.42
    15" w tb $3,134.14

16 to 19 hour battery life according to Consumer Reports updated testing after the MacOS Sierra bug fix

  • Picked up a new MBPro at JB. Unfortunately couldn't find any stock at Officeworks, just display stock. Of note if you're buying dongles, the JB guy didn't want to budge on matching the Apple (currently discounted but still expensive) cost for dongles to begin with, but gave in quite quickly. So make sure they match $ at the very least on dongle costs.

  • Bought mac book pro.

Was able to purchase jbhifi gift cards with the woollies egift card
